Things are so bad there is a betting pool on which DEMOCRAT screams ‘You Lie!’ tonight.

Tonight, President Obama will unveil his State of the Union.

Said one well connected Democrat last night, “Things are so bad there is a betting pool on which DEMOCRAT screams ‘You Lie!’ tomorrow night.” Well, tomorrow night is now arrived.

This past week, Americans have been treated to two very awkward scenes — Barack Obama speaking to a group of elementary school students with his teleprompter and Barack Obama speaking to his middle class task force with a teleprompter.

The man is extremely scripted. The visuals subject Obama to appropriate ridicule (school kids + teleprompter. Really?!?), but the script he is using is the true punchline for jokes.

For the past year, Barack Obama has called everything he does “unprecedented” and “historic.” His favorite four letter word is “Bush”. A day does not go by without someone in the administration blaming George Bush for all their ills. Counter-intuitively, the Democrats even blamed George Bush for Scott Brown’s victory in Massachusetts.

Tonight, it will be interesting to see how often he blames George Bush and how often he resorts to stale cliches the public is no longer buying. Obama, his teleprompter, and the rhetoric they deploy have become the butt of late night jokes. When Barack Obama loses Jon Stewart, he is in real trouble.

But there is a greater trouble for Barack Obama and one very few people are discussing. It is, however, the greatest threat to the Obama administration and is not easily reversed. If he cannot turn back from this threat rather soon, no successes with jobs, the economy, or anything else will save him.

The American people have a very American world view. The God of the Bible is real. Mom, the flag, apple pie, and American exceptionalism are the hallmarks of the American world view. A majority of American embrace this world view.

Voters want a guy in office who shares that world view.

But there is a growing sense among independents and even some Democrats that Barack Obama does not share that world view.

Obama’s world apology tour last year, his repeated rhetoric hinting at a world view where the United States is just one of many nations with nothing setting it apart, his mishandling of terror issues, his proclamation that we are not a Christian nation, his belief that we really all can get along, etc. suggest a world view hostile not just to American exceptionalism, but also hostile to the traditions the nation holds sacred.

Conservatives have long thought Barack Obama had a different world view — one shared more by ivory tower elitists and Hollywood liberals hostile to the nation’s roots and traditions, pushed out via the editorial page of the New York Times. Independents and Democrats gave the man a repeated pass. Never mind the hand not over his heart. Never mind the absence of a flag lapel pin. Never mind his misstatements on patriotism. Never mind his wife’s statement about it being the first time she was proud of her country.

Obama was not Bush and independents and Democrats could not imagine electing a guy who did not share their world view. Obama was “one of us,” so to speak. He had to be.

Except he is not. He never was. When voters begin to think and then realize that the President of the United States does not share the prototypical American world view, they will turn on the President.

It does not matter how well a person does in a job, people want to support those they view as their own. When Obama loses the connection with the voters because of his lack of a shared world view, a job well done will not matter.

Perhaps conservatives and the growing ranks of independents and Democrats who are starting to question Obama’s fealty to an American world view are wrong. But Obama has given no evidence yet that the growing impression is wrong. And if he does not act soon to correct the impression he is leaving, no rhetoric and no teleprompter will save him.

This is the first job in his life where a speech is not enough. He must now walk the walk or fall.

For the first time in his life, Obama has an actual record to be judged on. He can run a great election campaign with all the right promises, but as president he’s failed to deliver no matter whether you look from the left or from the right.

Now that the people are judging him on results instead of on promises and don’t like what they see, what does he do? Does he admit he blew it and try to change direction? No not really. Does he continue to blame Bush for everything bad and take credit for anything good? Yes, and since November elections we’ve seen that has gone over like a lead balloon. But even worse, instead of trying to get better results he goes into a cocoon, bringing in yet another campaign expert and retreating more into campaign mode where speeches matter more than anything. People don’t want to hear more carefully worded lies, like a “spending freeze” that really means “second stimulus” once you dig past the carefully chosen focus-group-driven soundbites.

The bloom is off the rose, and he has no idea how to proceed since he’s never been told “no” before. The magic of saving the day by giving a good speech has evaporated. The days of voting ‘present’ are over.

Now of course the GOP is positioned to give the killer blow this fall, and the only question is whether they continue to shoot themselves in the feet or get their act together.

Ouch......

Well said.
You’re right. Barack Obama has never been the one who has to take the blame. His whole career has always been a situation where he could criticize the group he belonged to, give a good speech then scurry away.
Now that the buck supposedly stops with him he has no one to pin the blame on and that’s one reason he is always referring to George Bush.
People are tired of the promises and want some damn results.

He is an Affirmative Action Empty Suit

gemimail Wednesday, January 27th at 11:06AM EST (link)

Let’s face facts: both Obama and his wife have been affirmative action bonus babies their entire lives. They have had everything handed to them on a silver platter primarily because of the color of their skin. Who paid for their expensive college education at top flight schools? It certainly was not them. Did they get passing grades in school based on their merit or was the color of their skin factored in? Perhaps this is why Obama’s college records are sealed? Did they get jobs because they were the best qualified candidates or because they were filling a racial quota? Who knows, but the suspicion remains based on their attitudes. Like most people who get something they do not deserve, they resent it. This might explain why neither of them seems to be either grateful for living here or being proud of their country.

Barack Hussein Obama’s education. Michelle? Who knows! Their responses to this gift of affirmative actions endowment is very different from that of the anger of the very highly qualified Justice of the Supreme Court, The Honorable Clarence Thomas. The Honorable Justice Thomas was angered that the honor of his very high academic and career achievements would always be in question due to affirmative action. This is why he hates affirmative action as should any black who strives for excellence. It is the chain that keeps them on the Democrat plantation.

Everyone is missing the point

rickdavismd Wednesday, January 27th at 6:59AM EST (link)

I wish everyone would please take a few considered moments to shift their focus away from President Obama just long enough to see that the real game being played out here is one of deception. Consider the possibility that Obama is just a convenient distraction; that he’s just a very visible and now vastly overexposed public face designed to promote policies that are being developed and orchestrated from behind the scenes where the real power lies to distract American from what is really taking place. And that is the largest theft in history. The economic crisis that we face is not a uniquely American problem. It is global. Therefore, it stands to reason that no strictly American solution can or will be able to solve this problem. The State of the Union message is really pretty simple… “We have never been in so much trouble!”
But how we got here is the real question that needs to be asked. And no one seems to have the courage to demand that answer. But for anyone with eyes to see – the answer is simple, and hiding in plain sight – it’s called derivatives, i.e.; CDO’s (collateralized debt obligations), and this insidious monster lies at the very heart of our problems.
But first a little history… CDO’s are a Machiavellian financial instrument field tested by Michael Milken at Drexel Burnham Lambert in the late 1980’s. They were perfected by the large hedge funds in the 1990’s and were amplified by Goldman Sachs and four other top tier US investment banks into a global ponzi scheme under the specific guidance and protection of the Federal Reserve in the 2000’s. Global is the key word here because what is happening in the US is happening everywhere. We are all up the creek together. Why, you ask? Because the notional value of the debt that we exist in today is in excess of $1.5 quadrillion dollars. Yes, about 30 times global GDP. In other words – a debt so large that it is mathematically impossible to pay off.
So forget about Obama for a moment, since he and his policies are entirely irrelevant to solving a dilemma of global proportions, and let’s “follow the money.”
That money trail leads straight from the “too big to fail” banks, to the Federal Reserve, to the International Bank for Settlements (BIS) in Basel Switzerland, (which essentially owns the Fed).
Forget the cover stories, this private bank not only effectively owns or controls the Fed and the other 55 member central banks in the world; the BIS also owns the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund as well. And they hold virtually all of the debt in the world in the form of CDO’s.
In layman’s terms…, they own your house, you pay them rent in the form of mortgage payments – along with just about everyone else on the planet. The BIS is now the official landlord of the world. They have cunningly stolen the wealth of the planet, now they are moving in for the kill and will not be happy until they have outright control. It’s not a conspiracy; it’s just business as usual on a scale that few of us can fathom…
So forget Obama. He’s just the US patsy. Lift the veil and see the real powers that be who are working tirelessly, skillfully and with breathtaking precision to mastermind the biggest heist ever performed – all in plain sight. Do this before it’s too late. Now is the time to educate yourselves as to the real culprit behind our mortally wounded economy. Read, learn and resist this juggernaut before it is too late. I am confident that as long as America exists as an exceptional nation on the earth, we can resist the BIS and assume the leadership needed to win this fight… And win it we must, for our very existence is at stake.

Did you forget obama, schumer, dodd, reid, waters, pelosi, raines, deadfish, frank and their illegal use of office to force banks to loan money to unqualified homebuyers? NT

Your understanding of finance is.... different.

Brian Hibbert (Diary) Wednesday, January 27th at 8:40AM EST (link)

CDOs were supposed to be a way to spread the risk from mortgages around so that no 1 mortgage failure would be absorbed by a single entity. They just didn’t envision that a high percentage of mortgages would fail or that the real estate values backing the CDOs would plummet.

The rest of your article is based on the incorrect understanding of what a CDO is and is therefor meaningless. Don’t feel bad. CDO’s haven’t been explained well in the press and have become the modern boogy man. Then you add in the nuts with the Illiminati (or Buildibergers, or…) and it gets strange from there.

Sorry, but you don’t need an international conspiracy to explain what went wrong with the US financial system. People screwed up and assumed real estate values would always increase. Everything else that collapsed was built upon that assumption.

You're understanding of finance is... different

rickdavismd Wednesday, January 27th at 12:48PM EST (link)

Hi Brian:

Thanks for your reply. But I think my economics on derivatives is sound. They are not basaed on any asset values any longer. The entire value of everything on the planet is about $250 trillion, but we have $1.5 quadrillion in notional value debt exposure. Go figure.

These facts are not in dispute.

Furthermore, the BIS is the central repository for this debt, which is held directly through its correspondent relationships with the IMF, WB and 56 national central banks.

This fact is not in dispute either. The fact that these transactions are “Off-balance sheet” is what keeps them off of the BIS reporting requirments. That is what is meant by de-linked credit facilities.

The BIS has set up the rules to allow them the right to plunder. It’s just that simple. They operate by different accouting rules than the rest of us must follow. And they have finagled regulatory rules of engagement in every member nation to cause them to look the other way.

This too is not in dispute.

So connect the dots…

It is not a conspriacy. It is big business with special priviledges unique to this organization in both legal structure, composition, products for sale, and regulatory requirements (or the lack thereof). The entire central bank concept is fraught with problems, the least of which is debt-based currrency for sovereign nation states.

In the middle of town was a small storefront flying an American flag larger than the store itself. It was called The Patriotic Bookstore and you could (and we did) get books there which were otherwise hard/impossible to find.
I refer ALL of you to two publications in particular which are still here with me to this day:
Trilaterals Over Washington by Antony C. Sutton andPatrick M. Wood. It was published by the August Corporation in 1979
The Bleeding of America by Herman H. Dinsmore published by Western Islands in 1974

Trilaterals Over Washington contains chapters titled:
The plan for world Agriculture
The Energy Hoax
Trilaterals and Taxation
Trilateral Censorship
and my personal favorite…The Coming Financial Panic

The Bleeding Of America contains chapters titled:
The Death of the Monroe Doctrine
Mental Warfare Against the People
and, again, my personal favorite Ecology:Taking America to the Cleaners

These books were both written in the 70′s, folks and the points taken then are spot on for today.
If you can find these books, they are worth a read… they are both small and written in easy english and were real eye-openers for me lo those many years ago.

Any analysis of obama must begin with the speeches, for nothing else can be brought to the table by even the truest believers. And what is there? Arguably, inspiring intellectual talking points: I will do this, we must do that, change, hope, hope for change . . . yada, yada. But there has never been anything concrete, no follow up, no life experience to draw upon, because this “President” never accomplished anything of substance before taking office. Even clinton had some executive experience, but not so little barry, whose speeches are, at their core, merely exercises in self-gratification. Until becoming the poster boy for The Peter Principle, the sum of the resume was a litany of self-promotion with no performance reviews.

From the flying O to the Roman Senate rally, this has been an exercise in narcissism. Well, the show is over, the chickens have come home to roost (pick your personal favorite cliche) and this act has fallen as flat as a raw egg on Jupiter. All we will hear tonight will be more ” I – - me – - my – - mine – - I ” megalomania read verbatim from a teleprompter; barry has nothing else to offer. What is truly sad is the USA must bear with this pathetic egotistical mediocrity for another three years and the causes of impeachment do not include “utter incompetence.”

Gibbs hit that out of the Propaganda Park with comments similar to Well, we want to pass legislation that helps working Americans blah blah blah…

No comment from Smith, of course, that Dems have consistently and spitefully shut Republicans out of the process. The proper question would have been: Will Democrats stop operating behind closed doors and let Republicans have some input? What happened to that transparency and C-Span promise?

To top it off at the end, Gibbs has the “audacity” to imply basically that Congress (especially Republicans) must stop worrying about election day all the time… ???!!!

One element could be in his early (Primary, elementary school) years, likely devoid of traditional USA classes which include at least some exposure to Colonial-era history and the Founders. That, and the influence of his mother’s radical friends; but his rejection, as an adult, of the US Constitution as “fundamentally flawed” because it protects citizens from governmental overreach rather than facilitating government intrusion indicates he either doesn’t “get it,” or he rejects it.

But, when will we learn? A Zogby poll indicates that Scott Brown could beat Obama in a presidential race. Hello? Nothing against Brown, but until two weeks ago, few of us had ever heard of him. That said, what does it say for us, as a nation, that one of our BEST patriots is a CANADIAN national, and we put out the Ed Shultz’s, Rachael Maddow’s, and Keith Olbermann’s? Then those idiots promote and elect other idiots like Harry, Nancy, BHO, et al!

It's happening already

“When voters begin to think and then realize that the President of the United States does not share the prototypical American world view, they will turn on the President.”

I think we’re there already – perhaps tonight’s reading of the teleprompter, followed by occaisional guffaws from the conservative office holders, will be the proof.

I’ll be tuing in here tomorrow to find out what was said, because I can’t keep my dinner down if I have to hear more than a news clip of the squeaky whistle that always follows one of his lies ending in a ‘C’ or ‘S’.

It’s not about a purge. It’s about an insurrection.

Those are words that appear to be missing in the President’s vocabulary.

He has a duty to respectfully represent America with integrity and honor, and he cannot seem to do so. To believe that he will be successful without doing those things befuddle me.

So is "personal responsibility.

The markers were there before the election. Twenty years in Wright’s church, the relationship with Bombardier Bill Ayers, Michelle’s stupid remark about finally being proud of her country,
these should have told us something, and in some quarters it did. This is our first America hating president.

Well at least he helped out Abdulmutallab and by extension al Queda, so you can’t say he doesn’t continue to have friends.

The real bet is how many times we hear "I", "me", "mine" etc.

archer52 Wednesday, January 27th at 10:02AM EST (link)

He’ll try to push some of it off on someone else, but it will be something like “I did my best BUT Mr. X blew it.” I’ve listened, often painfully, to many of his speeches and found if things are going well he “I’s” the living daylights out of a speech. When it is going south, he manages a few more “them” and “those” like in “those who oppose healthcare are the real enemy” kind of thing.

I’m betting it is over fifty times depending on the length of the speech. He is so sold on himself he can’t help it. As I’ve said before “He is who he is.” Or better said in one of my posts by the fable of the scorpion and the fox.

I would love to hear Rush do the Republican response tonight or something differnt like maybe, Zell Miller’s take on the O Bama ‘s first year in office. I won’t be watching the speech tonight because of high blood pressure and a weak stomach, but I will be reading the comments and views of people who are informed and actually love this country. 1stRichard (Diary) Wednesday, January 27th at 10:34AM EST (link)

We the People have had too much of his empty words and broken promises, and the nation is on the brink of disaster. If we hear one more time, Obama brought us back from this brink we march with pitchforks and torches. If we are forced to get our point across this way and this is how we must fold their feet to the fire then so be it. Main Street has had enough. The frustration level has gone past the boiling point for too many and the people are ready to let off some steam. I know it is bad when grandma normally docile and kind wants to take that teleprompter and shove it up his keister. The only thing we have seen that was actually unprecedented and historic last year was the largest march ever, the Tea Party. So far this year it was Brown winning in Massachusetts. If we hear the blame Bush line one more time there will be no more Democrats elected for a very long time. Massachusetts set a new standard of thirty-five points, and if you are within that margin, you will have lost your job and career. We know that from time to time, we must be reminded of how bad it could be but this bad will be remembered for a very long time. Democrats ignored the “American Pie” of this great nation and it will be a pie in their face from now on. A year of not walking the talk has lead to only one path, off the plank off a sinking ship. The damage is done and there are no words that can bail him out of the mess he has made.

The Obama gag reflex

jackbenimble (Diary) Wednesday, January 27th at 10:47AM EST (link)

I’m torn on watching the SOTU address. It has been years since I have missed one. It seems almost like a civic duty.

But about year 5 into the Clinton Administration the guy started to trigger my gag reflex. Within 15 seconds of the guy’s oily voice and bad-boy smirk coming on my TV set I felt an overwhelming visceral physical gag reflex and had to madly grab for the remote control and flip the channel before I spewed on the coffee table. It took me until about year 7 (during the second amnesty attempt) that I felt similarly about President Bush.

But somehow I was generally able to steel myself and my stomach for the SOTU addresses and I managed to get through gut tumbling speeches by both of them. Maybe it was the alcohol but I never actually vomited when Clinton was reeling off one of his extensive laundry lists of policy proposals that would “build a bridge to the 21st Century” and was absolutely necessary for the well-being “of the children”.

With Obama it is different. It didn’t take years. The gag reflex set in at about August after only 7 or 8 months. I have not watched Obama speak for more than 20 or 30 seconds since and I am not sure that I can bring myself to sit through the SOTU.

Maybe I’ll just let you folks tell me how it goes.

Founding Documents & Christianity

swamphermit (Diary) Wednesday, January 27th at 11:16AM EST (link)

First, I find it hard to believe that it has taken so long for a majority of Americans to realize just how anti-America Obama was and is. Just his connections with Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers should’ve woken up all pro-America Americans. Hopefully Obama’s ‘Free Pass’ ends tonight.

Second, nowhere in any of America’s Founding Documents is Christianity mentioned. Since the early founders were fleeing from Britain and European forms of State-Christianity, our Founding Fathers made sure that Christianity wasn’t mentioned in the Founding Documents, i.e. America has never had a State Religion.

Still, it was clear that Obama launched several attacks against Americans who are Christian, as a Senator and even after he was President (both State positions), so he still doesn’t get a pass from me.

I'm no prophet

vrwcnut Wednesday, January 27th at 11:17AM EST (link)

so I won’t hazard a guess as to the content of tonight’s speech. But it would do us all well to keep these things in mind:

In any event or application of policy, what we see as failure is in fact another progressive success.

Whether bho is the leader or just a puppet is not important. The stated goal of the progressives is to tear down the capitalist system so it can be rebuilt in their utopian view.

The greatest victory the progressives could achieve would be for “the people” to resort to violence. There may be a time for that but as of today we’re not even close.

All the attention on the speech tonight prompts me to wonder “what the other hand is doing”. Probably some new form of ” legal plunder”. (props to Mr Bastiat).

What kind of nation?

jimmy37 Wednesday, January 27th at 11:25AM EST (link)

Contrary to popular wishful thinking, we are not a christian nation, we are a nation of mostly christians. The founding fathers purposefully did not cite a god by any specific name. Some were not christians, but they had a strong belief in a higher power. Our so-called Judeo-Christian values come from the people, not the government. Unfortunately, it seems we are losing that, too.

redneck_hippie (Diary) Wednesday, January 27th at 1:19PM EST (link)

because it is a political failure.

The writers would be wise to use code instead.

When he speaks of “standing in the way of reform” or anytime he addresses Reform, or even Progress, he will be thinking about HCR because he is now obsessed about his abject failure. It’s kind of like when you do something boneheaded, for a very long time afterward, the failure comes back into your subconscious. Obama staked too much capital in it, not to have it stuck in his narcissistic craw.

In fairness...

hoosierteacher (Diary) Wednesday, January 27th at 2:15PM EST (link)

The teleprompters were not present when Obama was actualy speaking to the children (according to FoxNews). But the overall point is correct.

Obama has failed to live up to any of his promises, and people are seeing through his lies. Liberals have stopped trusting him, independents no longer support him (or his party), and republicans are starting to feel energized.

Obama’s only hope is to move to the center as Clinton did (triangulation). However, Clinton at least had a centric backgorund (as co-founder of the DLC). Obama has no natural inclination to respect moderation, and I think this hurt him.

If he moderates his tone during the SOTU tonight, he’ll further alienate his base, and I don’t think he’ll fool independents again.

I hope republicans won’t just sit back and expect the democrats to hand over the cake though. Republicans need to hit the airwaves telling people what conservatism stands for, and to come up with a Contract with America type of nationalizing campign.
