What you did not know at home listening to Barack Obama’s speech tonight is that he inserted a few quips that were not in the prepared text. They were cocky and snide.
After an entire paragraph bashing the Bush administration with this (by the way, he blamed the Bush administration throughout his speech, refusing to accept ownership of any problem):
At the beginning of the last decade, America had a budget surplus of over $200 billion. By the time I took office, we had a one year deficit of over $1 trillion and projected deficits of $8 trillion over the next decade. Most of this was the result of not paying for two wars, two tax cuts, and an expensive prescription drug program. On top of that, the effects of the recession put a $3 trillion hole in our budget. That was before I walked in the door.
Obama added, “Just statin’ the facts.”
After saying, “I know that some in my own party will argue that we cannot address the deficit or freeze government spending when so many are still hurting. I agree, which is why this freeze will not take effect until next year, when the economy is stronger” he added, “That’s how budgeting works.”
There were others along the same lines. All preachy and aimed at both Democrats and Republicans. And, of course, he lied.

We cannot, of course being his logic, keep the Bush Tax cuts (they will have to expire) because we wouldn’t have a way to PAY FOR IT… that old BS line when the issue is about Taxpayer uncertainty over ever changing code and an UN-VOTED FOR TAX INCREASE which is what this will all amount to. Further, they will be arguing we MUST HAVE TAX INCREASES (PAY-GO) for anything else going forward (except his 2nd Stimulus) in order to Pay for It.
It is all about forcing Tax Increase discussions… some things will be allowed to be exception to the FREEZE, as long as a TAX INCREASE will offset it… which, of course, will do the usual and shortly thereafter bring in less Revenue to the Treasury rather than more.

Stop the increase in the size of government. The deficit will then take care of itself.

They count revenue generated by climate revenues and then the wonderful Health Savings all added towards the deficit reduction. Then they add on the TARP expenditures for the coming years starting out at 260 billion dollars and then the obsequious “Place holder for potential additional financial stabilization efforts” with a miserly 250 Billion dollars.
They have made up expenditures as well as income to “cook the books”. All ready there is no likely outcome that shows a true deficit reduction and the so called spending freeze is nothing more than a falsehood. Just like the lobbyist not going to his staff, more lies. Transparency like a lead coat all the new programs will be opened to the public just like all the efforts for the Health Care. we are in trouble for sure.
More jobs would be developed if the money was just given back to the people. Let them spend it on anything that they want the money will go to buy new cars, homes and educations. Every level of the economy will benefit from the spending from the bottom up not the other way around. People will buy or save the money given back to them. If every person in America was given their share of these vast amounts being spent the so call stimulus spending we would see a real growth in the economy that would have lasting and long term benefits for both the Economy and the people of the Nation.

Depending on your point of view, you can either credit that surplus to:
(1) President Clinton, whom Obama did not mention by name and whose wife Hillary was suspiciously/conspicuously (and no doubt ordered to be) absent last night,
(2) the 1994 Gingrich sweep, which Obama does not want repeated in 2010, or
(3) a bi-partisan ‘tough love’ mix of 1 and 2.
Obama wants to bash Bush without drawing attention to:
(1) the Dems made a mistake in the 2008 primary and
(2) the quickest way to repair that mistake is to neutralize Obama in 2010.
You’re gonna need more than one lesson. And you’re gonna get more than one lesson.
