There are a lot of groups out there these days trying to get off the ground purported doing the Lord’s work for the advancement of freedom. Not all of them make it. Some of them are questionable. I pray very hard these days for God to give me some sense of discernment between the groups worth standing on the bridge with and those not worth it.
I won’t always be right and sometimes will be had. That’s life.
But over the past year I have fallen in love with one new group that has yet to disappoint and that frequently excites me. It’s American Majority. Those of you who attended the RedState Gathering last August know them well. They helped sponsor the event and made a presentation.
Slowly and carefully, American Majority is raising up a new batch of conservative leaders at the local level. Their goal is not to find the next conservative for congress, but to find the next conservative for the school board, the town council, the county commission, etc. They intend to rebuild the conservative farm team.
And they do fine work. Today their new website is up. Go check it out. They are a solid group I’m pleased to promote and partner with whenever I can.

Fallon (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 2:51PM EST (link)and. Erick, I appreciated your kind words to me on the Tea Party convention thread yesterday, but might this affection you feel for the American Majority explain why you don’t like the Tea Party movement and their plans for a national convention?
Liberal sites like TPM’s picked up on and cheered your criticism of the Tea Party movement. You definitely became “that guy”.
It appears to me that this might be an ideological turf war for conservative voters. When one has “fallen in love” it is common to try to shoo away any other possible suiters and compare all others to” the one” who excites and has “yet to disappoint” you?
But I’ve been wrong before…
Can't you take a guy at face value?
Brian Hibbert (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 4:45PM EST (link)Erick said what he said. It’s his opinion. Nothing more sinister than that.
There isn’t a turf war between American Majority and the Tea Party groups. They have different but not incompatible goals. American Majority is looking to put conservative people into offices at local levels. End of story. The tea party groups all have their own agendas and often no agends, but they are mostly against excessive government spending (a laudable concervative goal). It wouldn’t hurt for your local tea party organizers to contact AM. They may get some good help.

Fallon (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 5:07PM EST (link)I had never heard of American Majority before. Their website shows offices in six states. There isn’t an AM office in my state.
The timing of the two posts made me wonder. I guess only Erick knows for sure.
Look up projection...

Fallon (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 5:45PM EST (link)Inference or supposition, not projection.
We can go back and forth for a few more posts where you say “Projection!” and I say, “No, I don’t think so, more like inference or supposition” but I am already tiring of this and am aware that neither of us knows for certain what influenced Erick to become “that” guy yesterday. Only he knows that.
I still have the utmost respect for “that” guy but we all have feet of clay.
Fallon,
Aaron Gardner (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 6:06PM EST (link)How about this. Don’t attribute motives to Erick that aren’t there. And certainly don’t do so in the form of a question. Erick is writes pretty honestly and clearly. His motives are laid forth in the article he wrote about the Tea Part Convention. Also, don’t conflate that convention with the overall movement.
I notice you didn’t bother to respond to Brian above. Why is that? Are you afraid that it would show that you weren’t being respectful at all. Since you chose to answer me instead of him , it makes me wonder.
See how accusatory that last paragraph sounded? That is what you did. I would suggest you avoid that style in the future.
As far as the feet of clay goes, you are right, we all have feet of clay. Usually though, you don’t bring that out unless you believe someone has does something wrong. Do you believe Erick did something wrong? If so, just come right out and say it, you don’t have to do it on the sly, it just makes you look disingenuous.
Take it or leave it.

Questions
Fallon (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 6:30PM EST (link)I actually don’t find your questioning of me accusatory at all. If you wanted to know why I ignored Brian’s post I would prefer you just ask.
That is what I did. I had questions in my head and so I asked.
I understand the desire of many posters to defend Erick from any perceived slight, but that is not what I did. I asked a question.
I am a nice person but apparently my writing style is a bit aggressive. Meh. If you don’t like my style, well, there’s not much I can do about that. I try to be respectful, that’s the best I can do.
BTW ~ My remark about “feet of clay” was not so much aimed at Erick as it was meant for his cadre of self-appointed defenders. I used the word “we” (and that includes myself) to try to point out that all of us are human and capable of making mistakes. You, me and Erick.
“Take it or leave it.”
I’ll have to think on that one.
Fallon, I am not a self appointed defender of Erick....
Aaron Gardner (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 6:40PM EST (link)I am FP contributor, Erick is essentially my boss on this blog. I, among others, converse with him multiple times a day. Pardon me if I feel the need to defend a friend from patently fasle accusations.
You implied that Erick had nefarious motives wrt the Tea Party Convention. That isn’t respectful in any definition of the word, nor was it a straight up question. That you don’t see this speaks volumes about you.

Aaron, No...
Fallon (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 7:04PM EST (link)“You implied that Erick had nefarious motives”
No. I questioned the room in his heart for more than one love. Read his words:
“(O)ver the past year I have fallen in love with one new group that has yet to disappoint and that frequently excites me.”
Okay. This follows his widely circulated skeptism about theTea Party Convention. I asked a question. Did his love for one influence his dislike for the other? That’s all. No nefarious motives implied or stated. And, definitely not projection. It was a question. Did one affect the other?
I have no feelings either way for American Majority. They seem like a decent group. The name’s a little presumptuous considering they are only in six states but whatever. (Apologies, I just can’t seem to avoid a little snark. I attribute it to being from a large contentious family.)
I know Erick is your boss. Say “Hi!” to Erick and let him know that I really did appreciate his nice remark to me yesterday.

My general rule of thumb is I work with everybody except those I don’t trust. That’s why I still have a working relationship with Tea Party Patriots and other tea party groups.
There is no turf war because the tea party movement is not my turf. But I wonder if it is yours.

Fair Question
Fallon (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 7:36PM EST (link)“There is no turf war because the tea party movement is not my turf. But I wonder if it is yours.”
It really isn’t but I AM going to the convention, I have attended one Tea Party event on April 15 th. That’s it. I sent some photos to the Tea Party Patriots website to help verify the crowd and I still get updates and calls to action but I am not a member of any group nor am I in any way a leader. I am curious and I am fed up with the local races.
I am from Hastert’s district and now his son is the GOP anointed candidate, complete with Gingrich led fundraisers. It is very frustrating. First, Foster and now a legacy. I want to be involved. I was looking at the information about becoming part of the local precinct. The links provided here were very good.
Sorry, if I insulted you. It wasn’t my intention. I just don’t trust anyone.
Fallon, that's the point
Erick Erickson (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 9:36PM EST (link)It is increasingly hard to trust anyone these days because so many people are out to make a buck off the well placed concerns of others. I have, for reasons unbeknownst to me, become some sort of honest broker I never intended to be.
I’m happy to call it like it is, whether I like a group or not, and I’m happy to admit I’ve made a mistake. But from sponsors to activists, I have a bad feeling on this one.
Hopefully I’m wrong.

Is it possible
vrwcnut Tuesday, January 12th at 7:42PM EST (link)we’re experiencing something akin to a national party convention? There may be many “favorite sons” in this stage of an amorphous movement which may be in search of a national leader. Such a question has been discussed in previous threads.
My comment is that we must not shoot our wounded, so to speak. I remember the statement, “we will either stand together or we will surely hang alone.” or something like that. None of these groups is perfect. One may bubble to the surface but that should not diminish the importance of any of those who don’t.
btw, our local Grassroots group often has joint events with the local Tea Party group. One such was a training session conducted by AM. We all learned a lot and will profit from AM’s expertise.

IronDioPriest (Diary) Tuesday, January 12th at 5:55PM EST (link)…who has trouble discerning which of these new upstart conservative organizations are legitimate and a net positive for real activism, and which are just Internet circle-jerk complaint outlets.
We’ve got Patriotic Resistance, Tea Party Patriots, AnyStreet.org, the 9/12 Project, and many others, all claiming the mantle of true conservative activism, and I’m sure they’re all doing something good. But the rubber must meet the road, so it is nice to know a) that someone in the “loop” like Erick has the same apprehension when weeding through these groups in search of legitimacy, and b) that he has found one that stands out in his mind to recommend.

rec0n Wednesday, January 13th at 2:03PM EST (link)I chose months ago to take a ‘wait and see’ attitude on the grassroots groups that had all sprung up so suddenly, and see how they shook out, so to speak. Eric’s post wasn’t the first time I’d heard of issues, either.
I applaud the efforts they’ve put forth, but you just can’t get that many ppl together w/out a little lunacy cropping up here and there amongst the growing pains.
