Barack Obama’s Vulnerabilities Will Get Us All Killed

“At the end of the first year of Barack Obama’s administration, there’s something moving in the shadows of Mount Doom. It wasn’t there while George Bush was in charge.”

Within twenty-four hours of the terrorist trying to blow up the plane, the White House was giving briefings by a “Senior Administration Official” who mostly like was Obama, Axelrod, or Jarrett, pointing out that the terrorist watch list was created by the Bush administration.

Then the White House Counsel’s Office sent out a memo demanding any and all documentation to show that the Bush administration had done worse.

Then the White House decided it needed to look into the “systemic failures” of the operation that George Bush had put in place.

234 days into George W. Bush’s first contentious year in office, four planes were hijacked and used as missiles to strike the United States. Shortly thereafter, Richard Reid tried to blow up another jet.

George Bush never tried to disown 9/11 or Richard Reid. He never tried to say, “hey, it was Clinton’s problem.” Sure, in fact, a lot of what led to 9/11 happened on Bill Clinton’s watch and he failed in most every measure to shut down Al Qaeda.

But after 9/11, George Bush didn’t spend his first day, second day, or third day blaming Clinton. He set out to destroy Al Qaeda. After Richard Reid, we’ve been pretty darn safe flying.

In fact, under George Bush leading scholars and pundits declared Al Qaeda marginalized. By 2003, the pontiffs of miasmatic beltway wisdom were near unanimous that Al Qaeda was near dismantled.

You really need to read this editorial in the London Telegraph by Toby Harnden. It really hits this point where it needs hitting.

For a man who campaigned denouncing the politicisation of national security under President George W Bush, it is worth noting how intensely political Obama’s treatment of what might henceforth be known as Underpantsgate has been.

His White House recognised its political vulnerability more readily than it comprehended the level of danger faced by Americans.

That last bit is the most troubling part of this.

At the end of the first year of Barack Obama’s administration, there’s something moving in the shadows of Mount Doom. It wasn’t there while George Bush was in charge. But Barack Obama is no George Bush. And the strategy of blaming Bush for being weak on terror will not work after eight years of blaming Bush for being too bloodthirsty.

The "Blame Game"

nelsa (Diary) Saturday, January 2nd at 10:12PM EST (link)

The “Blame Game” is as tired as “Hope and Change”.
Hope is not a strategy and most people know that. We are fighting a real war with real lives on the line and to point backwards is self-defeating.

We don’t need to scale back. We need to seek and destroy and use the laws that Bush put in place to protect this country.

The one and only way we can loose this war...

Next93 (Diary) Sunday, January 3rd at 12:06AM EST (link)

There’s only one way the terrorists can defeat us, and that’s if we fail to recognize that it IS a war.

Obama was The One in 2008.
He’ll be a BIGGER one in 2012.

Recognizing the war

vamoose Sunday, January 3rd at 9:05AM EST (link)

The biggest obstacle in recognizing the war is that the jihadists are waging against the Western world is that it is a religious war. Americans absolutely don’t like the idea of fighting a religious war and the war on terror can’t be sold as a religious war, but like it or not that’s what it is. Barack Obama has trouble with reality in general, but his unacknowledged religion, liberalism, prevents him from acknowledging the nature of the war Al-qaeda is fighting. Obama’s why-can’t-we-all-just-get-along world view is no defense against jihadists that “want to kill you more than you want to live.”

This war

edwlstr Tuesday, January 5th at 12:52AM EST (link)

is a religious war. It is being continued after a few centuries hiatus due to a lack of funds. Now they are steeped in Saudia Arabian oil money, it resumes. But it is really the same war that has raged since the 7th century. The establishment of a world wide caliphate is the goal. The fact that we are in the middle east has nothing to do with muslim hatred for America. The crusades have nothing to do with muslim hatred of the western lifestyle. The jihad was started some 450 years before the crusades. The crusades were a response to mulslim taking of land by military means and the subsequent pillage, and destruction of Holy sites like the muslims burning down of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The brutality that has horrified the modern scholars educated in the leftist PC knowledge, predated the crusades by several hundred years. This war will end only when one side is TOTALLY vanquished (as in dead). We only have to decide which side it is that we want dead. By the way, Obama’s unacknowledged religion is Islam. And he can’t fight the war properly because he cannot leave Islam (Qur’an 2:217)

Are we going to close every Embassy now that AQ decides to “threaten?” We have been working with Yemen for ages and now, despite whatever OTHER rhetoric the TOTUS reads, this cut-and-run is signal to AQ …. just like Clinton gave up Somalia completely to AQ, Obama is giving them Yemen.

I totally agree with the premise of this post, and the Telegraph’s observation w/r/t political opportunism on the part of the Boy King’s admin is spot-on… but I am in need of correction.
Richard Reed. Was he not treated as a criminal (sat in a county jail for 30 days before facing federal charges) instead of an illegal combatant (presumably subject to tribunal)? Not that I wish the former, but it is important as I’ve seen people using this as an excuse for the limp-wristed Obama stance on the treatment of illegal combatants (the Eunuch Bomber, KSM and his buddies, perhaps Hasan).
I want the Eunuch Bomber interrogated, and turning him over to civilian justice with a lawyer commanding him to “clam up” does nothing to help out security. Where it seems to me the guy is an illegal combatant involved in an attack on civilians, I’d like to know if our actions have been consistent.
I’m certainly no lawyer, and I’m hoping some of the more astute here will give me a brickbat with which to push back a new lib talking point.

from Andy McCarthy who was an attorney in the DoJ at the time…

Admittedly, I’m predisposed to be sympathetic to Bush, but here I think it’s warranted. These cases happened very close to 9/11. I was still in government, so I know we were scrambling. The November 2001 executive order authorizing the military commissions did not get them up and running. That took time — and the Defense Department had to do it while trying to fight a war. The Justice Department circa 2001-03 was thus in a very strong position to argue that it had significant experience handling terrorism cases while DoD still hadn’t gotten its act together. That was true, and remember that Reid and Lindh pled guilty, so the cases were basically over before you knew they were on. But Justice vastly overrated its ability to control the amount of intelligence that the courts would order disclosed in the Moussaoui case. It was a circus, and if he hadn’t pled guilty it might have been a disaster.

Now, however, we have eight years of experience, including the cautionary Moussaoui tale. There are no longer any excuses; the right answer is obvious: If preventing terrorist attacks is our priority, we have to be in a law-of-war rather than a criminal-justice model.

Read the whole thing, NRO’s been on top of this particular issue.

Reid

Erick Erickson (Diary) Saturday, January 2nd at 10:42PM EST (link)

He was tried, but pled guilty.

I’d say it was a mistake, but we cannot forget the time line. When the Reid incident happened, only a month or so after September 11th, the military commissions, GTMO, etc. were not in place. The DOJ made the decision that if Reid were going to plead guilty to just send him on instead of delaying for the new system to be put in place.

I think Bush really messed up with Moussoui, who pled not guilty and tied up the court system for years.

Who will stand on either hand and keep this bridge with me?

Erick that is almost word for word Andy McCarthy :-)... nt

Thanks for the timeline, Gentlemen;

roscopico (Diary) Saturday, January 2nd at 10:51PM EST (link)

And I agree the approach to Moussoui was a farce… the only consolation is his present condition at Supermax.

at some point this president and his advisors will actually be discussing whether or not they can get any more mileage out of blaming Bush. This was bit of a cynical thought, and not at all reassuring that we have true leaders occupying 1600 P. At the one year mark they know they own everything and will be discussing implications for strategy. It hit me like a brick/ton that BHO and all the usuals will be having a real conversation at some point about whether or not to continue blaming Bush, and not out of any sense of decency or need to move on, but only as a cold calculation of worth.

It may be a long while yet. I never thought BHO would try to prove Bush was weak on defense. If he sees stretegic merit in that anything’s possible. Even four years of BDS at 1600 P.

Is Obama even interested in fixing our vulnerabilities?

aelie (Diary) Sunday, January 3rd at 12:20PM EST (link)

Obama’s presidency is based on placing blames. As soon as him and his advisors actually have to come up with real policy decisions, they will falter badly. They haven’t yet because the problems such as bank collapses and Afghanistan are still issues. Take this one step further. Why would Obama ever be interested in patching up our vulnerabilities? They have totally screwed up the situation in Afghanistan on their watch, but have been blaming Bush for it – though that political strategy is starting to show cracks as of late.

stratdaddy: Then I am even more cynical than you are. Take a look at what the Democratic Party has done last few years. Take a look at what’s been happening in both Iraq and Afghanistan:

They were happy to promote groundless conspiracy theory that Bush came up with excuses to take action against Saddam Hussein. They were proven flat-out wrong, and I believe ultimately the invasion will end up improving the lives of ordinary Iraqis. The winning strategy involved both military and civil actions, and Bush acknowledged that fact and carried it out to great success last few years. (At least much more than what bunch of anti-war hippies in Baghdad downtown accomplished during the airstrike anyway…)

Obama, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to have any interest in neither improving the situtation of Afghanistanis (civil part of the conflict) nor getting rid of Taliban and Al Qaeda. (military part of the conflict) Those two-faced liars, the Democratic Party, were happy to bash Bush for “hurting” Iraqis. But once in power, their true power hungry side showed up. Fro their actions, it’s clear that they simply don’t care how much both us Americans and Afghanistanis must pay to keep Obama’s impractical policies going.

I just remembered, back in October...

stratdaddy Sunday, January 3rd at 3:13PM EST (link)

Emmanuel claimed the administration was developing its Afghan strategy from whole cloth because the Bush-Cheney had no plan. This was given as another excuse for the dithering on an Afghan surge. It was quickly revealed that Bush had conducted a review, which the transition team was briefed on. And, at the urging of team Obama, both the study and the briefing were kept from the public. Oh, and the speech BHO gave in May(?) turned out to be cribbed directly from the review. Calling Bush weak on defense? That would be a step up for this crew.

All incoming admins. get full reports

renny (Diary) Sunday, January 3rd at 5:43PM EST (link)

Eisenhower briefed Kennedy on the Bay of Pigs.

Big O’s complaining that Bush had no “plan” for Afghanistan is as disingenuous as all his other lies. The plan was to “win,” in that Afghanistan should be stable enough not to be taken over as a sanctuary by the Taliban or al Qaeda types again.

I’ll say again, for the severalth time, Big O and minions thought kissing butt and making nice would neuter the Islamic jihadists long enough for the WH to turn the US into Obamaland. They were so STUPID that they didn’t realize the terrorists have real passion and commitment and are not going to lessen their fervor or plans to defeat the US, West, and democracy just because O makes a couple speeches.

Now, with Ft. Hood and Underpantsgate, the cabal in DC finds itself forced to pretend it knows and cares about national security, a terrible diversion from turning Obamanationcare into law.

Say what people want about Bush, no one ever thought he wasn’t fighting implacable enemies and employing the traditional tactic of taking the fight to the enemies’ territory, just as Churchill sent big lumbering Lancasters to bomb Berlin and we flew “30 Seconds Over Tokyo” to Japan.

On Iraq, Afghanistan, and Taliban

aelie (Diary) Sunday, January 3rd at 8:36PM EST (link)

Stabilizing Iraq has been our most important foreign policy matter last few years: everyone can agree that unstable Iraq is far more dangerous than unstable Afghanistan for the U.S. The Democrats claimed he should have gone into Iraq with a goal. And he accomplished that goal: a dangerous dictator to our national security was overthrown. The liberals still refuse to accept this simple fact, that the world is a better place without Saddam Hussein.

But Iraq took time and effort. Bush must have realized that finishing up in Afghanistan couldn’t be done overnight, and that it would take longer than the time he had left in the Oval Office. The only possibility – except for writing-off Afghanistan and its people to Taliban while withdrawing ASAP – was to place trust in his successor to do the right thing and finish the job. Why wouldn’t he? The President of the U.S. is supposed to act in the nation’s best interest, right?

Instead, all we got is this half-hearted attempt to improve the situation in Afghanistan. Obama will fail there at the rate situation is deteriorating. This failure will mean Taliban retaking the power. And I am quite certain that directly will lead to bin Laden coming out of hiding and traveling to Kabul in comfort. If there ever was the time for Obama to stop playing the blame game and actually do something for our nation, it’s now. But I personally have no faith in him after seeing what he has (and hasn’t) done past year.

Not too surprising

aelie (Diary) Saturday, January 2nd at 10:42PM EST (link)

The Democrats love playing blaming the other side. While Bush was the president, they blamed him for… just about everything. When the next terrorist attack occurs – and you know it’s going to happen sooner than later – how will Obama administration react? My bet is on blaming George W. Bush.

Obama playing the blame game doesn’t really bother me, per se. What bothers me is how his administration doesn’t do *anything* to prepare for and minimize the risk of terrorist attacks. If anything, his inaction confirms my belief that terrorism is just an another political subject for him.

Obama doesn’t like the military because he knows they don’t respect him. They possess a masculinity that he will never understand. They run in a world where he will never be welcome because he is a Prima Donna and not a team player. It always has to be about him. He will always be someone who will betray his bunkmates if it can make his situation better.
He just doesn’t understand that this is for real and it has nothing to do with his approval ratings.
He will always deflect the blame. He got lucky this time and so did those passengers thank God but there may come a time when our luck runs out.
Who will he blame then….?

U.S. Leading Assaults on al Qaeda in Yemen

Well, well, lookie here:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/01/02/eveningnews/main6048291.shtml

Recent combined air and ground assaults against al Qaeda in Yemen last month were American-led, according to a U.S. special operations expert who trains Yemeni forces.

“It was cruise missile strikes in combination with military units on the ground,” Sebastian Gorka, an instructor at the U.S. Special Operation’s Command’s Joint Special Operations University, told CBS News Correspondent Kimberly Dozier.”It was a very distinct signal from the Obama administration that they are serious in assisting Yemen to remove these al Qaeda facilities from its soil.

“That was very much something executed by the United States, but with heavy support by the Yemeni government,” Gorka told Dozier.

I think Obama wants to call it a police action so as to not upset the pinkos….

With Obama you can't tell if it is his narcissism or his ignorance that makes him so dangerous.

This post is from my website:

http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/01/03/obamas-approach-to-terrorism-reveals-two-classic-flaws-in-his-character-narcissism-and-ignorance/

I link over to another site that has a good round up of the issues surrounding Obama including Krauthammer’s wonderful take on the manic stretching of their theories of justice they use to separate terrorists from criminals. He uses the term “mad” as in crazier than a loon, to describe their contortions:

“This is all quite mad even in Obama’s terms. He sends 30,000 troops to fight terror overseas, yet if any terrorists come to attack us here, they are magically transformed from enemy into defendant.”

In my post I suggested the smartest thing the terrorists could do is shut down all but the most secure bases and send their people here to commit terrorism. Honestly, what is the downside for being caught here killing hundreds or thousands of people.. Whether it is one death or a thousand, the terrorist still gets arrested and assigned a lawyer. Shoot before long, with Obama around, he’ll probably have a cable show in TV- “Jihading with Omar.”

For all the problem GWB had, and he had his share, arrogance and narcissism were not one of them. (I know people, who I trust, who worked with him.) More, when he was President I knew if something happened to me or my family from a terrorists attack I might be killed but I would know as I went that somebody somewhere was going to pay for it. More importantly, the terrorist knew the same thing. They knew THEY were going to pay for it. How many terrorists did we kill? How many of their family did we kill along with them? The death of Saddam and his sons did not fall on deaf ears in the Middle East. The leaders and the sponsors of terrorism got the message. We would spend five hundred billion dollars just to string a two dollar length of rope around their necks or send a thirty-two cent bullet through their brains.

Not any more. As I have said before, “we are in the s**t now” with Obama in charge. He is the weak horse, which is the last thing we need right now. We almost had them. Now they’ll have us.

Perpare for a bloody 2010.

The only way Obama can take the spotlight back is by saying he’ll give millions to someone. We saw with the CIA slaughter in Afghan. exactly what US money is used for in these countries. It is given to people who laugh behind our backs, and give the money to our murderers, The bomber is from a wealthy family, father a Dr. On the blaming Bush thing, it may partly be Rasmussen’s fault. The left hates him because he tells the truth about their sinking prospects. As many know, he has a very good record with his polls. About a week ago, Rasmussen said the only thing going well for the dems. was the tactic of blaming Bush. Rasmussen said that was working for them, a surprising number of people still believed that.

Let’s see, after 3 days of research it was an isolated extremist, but luckily the system worked, except it didn’t because it was a systemic failure due to the failed policies of the past administration, which we haven’t had time to fix what with healthcare and all. But now it was Al Queda, which evil Boosh tried to mistakenly fight in Iraq, when all the time it was in Afghanistan, which the Generals now say we are losing under Obama, all because of Boosh. So let’s prosecute CIA operatives and Navy SEALS and everything will be OK, because the world loves us without Boosh, and the bad guys are being sent back to Yemen, where they can’t hurt us, except for the ones we’ve Mirandized and tossed in the clink. Got it?

The measure of their infantilism

johnt Sunday, January 3rd at 10:01AM EST (link)

is their by now pathological reliance and excoriation of a man, Bush, whose boots they’re not fit to lick. His treatment by the left is an important measure of the sickness, the childishness, the cowardice, the inability to assume adult responsibility for their actions, the numbing incompetence, the constant but always blind hatred, that helps define this collection of human debris known as the American liberal.

The above goes both for the garbage in the WH and the garbage that put him there. Worse yet, we can expect a continuation of the Bush fixation, lunacy!

Someone who’s spent a year or so as a middle manager in a corporation comes to understand that deflecting accountability and assigning blame just undermines the power of the position you’re in.

Natural leaders don’t need to have this explained to them. It’s what Harry S Truman meant with “The buck stops here.”

Lawyers, though, instinctively play a game of excuse-making, deflection and assigning blame.

The ultimate audience for Obama’s kabuki dance is not a jury, a focus group or public opinion polls. There are forces of evil out there who are looking for any advantage, any sign of weakness. And O is full of them.

Great post Erick. Obama and his goons are doing just what liberals do best–blame someone else for their mistakes, never take responsibility for their own actions, and look down on We the People because we’re not smart enough to really understand what’s going on.

I watched Claire McCaskill this morning on TV trying to convince us that Obama really is on top of all this. I think I’ve begun to see a pattern. Seems that only Dems NOT up for reelection are out there defending this incompetent boob.

On Yemen

proudgop (Diary) Sunday, January 3rd at 12:04PM EST (link)

“Despite the threat, the United States does not plan to open a new front in Yemen in the global fight against terrorism, said the aide, John Brennan.

“It just demonstrates that al-Qaida is determined to carry out these attacks and we’re determined to thwart those attacks,” he said, making the rounds of four Sunday talk shows as the president finished his holiday vacation in Hawaii and prepared for a Tuesday meeting at the White House about the airliner plot.”

This above is what Brennan said today in regards to Yemen? So not only have they waved the white flag in closing our embassy ( my father worked for State Dept his whole life you don’t close your embassy publicly you give employees the cover of not having to work in threatening times; get their families out of harms way but you keep embassy open as sign of strength) there they have also come out and said they will not open a new front in Yemen? Well guess what terrorist have fun in Yemen its all yours now.

Why don’t they just give the terrorists our play by play for next 3 years?

A disgrace!

Brennan also said that Obama still plans to send Gitmo detainees

Very troubling that there is no learning going on here.

It would be a tragic mistake for the country if Obama digs in here – it’s only a matter of time before we get hit.

It will also send the democrats into the wilderness for the next decade. No one will trust them, and Islamic terrorism isn’t going away.

Obama

will never take responsiblily for ANYTHING..

I recall the left blamed Bush for 9/11 when it happened, and he had only been in office for 8 months. That the knew it was going to happen and had gotten the intelligence on this before hand.

Obama cannot have it both ways.

Where are the conspiracy theorists? Why are they not pointing the finger at Obama. As far as I am concerned they should be pointing their fingers alot..
The swine flu epidemic??
Throwing out fear during the health care debate.

Why are they not questioning how Obama was going to make the world love us and we would all now sing Kum Ba Ya.
I thought he had all the answers..

He got the peace prize for goodness sakes.

They shoiuld be pointing their fingers for all the HOPE and CHANGY that was SUPPOSE to happen…

According to the Obama we should no longer have attacks like this.

The left blamed GW for 9-11, but forget to include Gore's refusal to quit.

archer52 Sunday, January 3rd at 7:21PM EST (link)

People don’t remember that Gore’s refusal to quit slowed the transition down between administrations as the Clinton admin did not invite GW’s into the White House. They lost a good deal of time and information.

Nothing happens in a vacuum, which is a lesson the left refuses to learn.

It gets in the way of their fantasy life.

The Big 3

badkarma6 (Diary) Sunday, January 3rd at 4:42PM EST (link)

Narcassism, ignorance and political correctness are the 3 elements that Obama posesses that are going to get people killed. Obama has no intelligence, military or law enforcement experience but he does have the healthy disdain for all three professions that are common within the legal academic elite, especially constitutional law professors, which Obama was at U. of Chicago. However, his narcassism won’t allow him to accept that he is ignorant and may have to go outside his comfort zone to seek advice on what to do. Combine that with the political correctness that defines the left and you have a recipe for disaster. National security is truly an area where playing politics is a very bad idea.
