I am Doug Hoffman. No, I am. No, not you, me. I’m Doug Hoffman.

You're not in the Wu Tang Clan! You're not even in a TRIBE CALLED QUEST.

A while back, I was talking to a friend who must remain nameless and he was kind of hacked off at some upstart GOP consultants who had taken to calling themselves “Young Turks”.

My friend says, “Who the hell do these guys think they are? You don’t call yourself a young turk. That’s for other people to call you that if you’ve earned it. You call yourself a young turk, you might as well call yourself an upstart, arrogant p**ck.”

He had a point.

It reminds me of an Atlanta Journal profile of the third or fourth coming (I forget which) of Ralph Reed who said of himself that his returning to evangelical politics was like Steve Jobs returning to Apple.

You don’t say that about yourself.

With those points in mind, I turn to NY-23. I am so very tired of every candidate in the country claiming to be the next Doug Hoffman or in the next New York 23.

No you aren’t. Just shut up. I promise you that you aren’t. If you are saying that about yourself, I guarantee you that you are not the next Doug Hoffman. You aren’t even the next Marco Rubio.

If you want my support, saying you are the next Doug Hoffman is not a short cut to getting my support or that of this site. It’s probably a good way for us all to tune you out.

You are not Doug Hoffman. Get over yourself.

Yeah, and whaddayamean, not even the next Rubio??

Hoffman was about as interesting a candidate as a cardboard cutout of McCain — useful for smacking around ScozzyBear and the GOP, but man, he is as bland as an air sandwich :|

I love the subtitle and the “Shut up” tag. This is totally on the money. The arrogance of some people…

Ha. Enter the 36 Chambers wannabees. My Wu is better than your Wu.

Although it seems trivial, its seems everyone is claiming the “rights” to the tea party movement. This may evolve into a bigger problem. I’ve even heard such old hacks as Christy Mihos in MA and Ovide Lamongtagne in NH try to position themsleves as the anti-establishment conservative candidate.

Being an anti-establishment Tea Party conservative is “all the rage” like Kristen Stewart, Zhu Zhu Pets and watching Jersey Shore.

I can only immagine the calls you must be getting, as you have gone to bat for some House and Senate races. The Hoffman race was proclaimed to be “the hill to die on” race. The Hoffman NY 23rd race was a completely different and separate case. The NY GOP, along with the NRCC as reported here, choose the worst possible liberal republican candidate they could. There was never any question that Redstate, Thompson, Palin et al came out in favor of a third party candidate, only because it was the only way a candidate could run against Scozzafava. I remember reading here that even though Hoffman lost, his close voter totals were impressive, and, spoke for the gains of conservatism.

There have been other races where the NRSC has come out in favor of, at best, moderate candidates such as Crist, Hutchison, and Fiorina. Rubio, for example, must be supported, as sending Crist to Washington would be no better than having another McCain or Graham. In the House, every seat will be up for election/re-election in 2010. You have posted about a few House races in another diary, and, you have talked about who you like in those races.

Whoever may be calling you, claiming to be the next Hoffman, sure doesn’t need to waste your time. There are races though where the NRSC or NRCC or the RNC has once again interferred with the locals choosing their own Republican candidates. As someone here pointed out, in a comment, to name one candidate in a race, and, to not even mention the others, is a type of endorsement. We all have seen just what candidates the national committees have been in support of, the most moderate amongst them. The national committees have no place in pushing one candidate over others, or giving financial support to anyone who has not already been choosen by the district or state constituients. I am hopeful that you are still in support of the national committees minding their p’s and q’s.
