Charlie Crist just hurts himself more and more every time he opens his mouth. In January, when he decides to quit the Senate primary (you heard it hear first) and get back in the Florida Governor’s race, he’s going to be doing some scrambling to douse the flames on all the bridges he is burning.
In the latest rant against Marco Rubio Crist attacks Rubio for voting for tax increases in Florida, which were actually unanimously endorsed and Jeb Bush sponsored refusals to roll back property taxes for education initiatives. Crist is also attacking Rubio for wanting to get rid of property taxes by raising sales taxes, a measure that Crist had actually suggested in the first place.
It that wasn’t bad enough, Crist called himself pro-life, ignoring that until recently he called himself pro-choice and called himself “anti-tax” despite proposing and signing into law several recent tax hikes on Florida citizens.
But it gets even better.
Crist also attacked conservatives generally. He pointed out a left wing Daily Kos poll that shows people who question Barack Obama’s citizenship support Marco Rubio. He called conservatives supporting Rubio “angry.” Then he said something peculiar.
“There are a lot of Republicans that don’t have the inclination to go to executive committee meetings,” he said. “There is wide swath of republican voters out there that don’t necessarily listen to cable tv all the time.”
Now, I don’t know if he means that as a good thing or a bad thing. My suspicion is Crist views people who show up at GOP meetings and watch cable news as bad for him. Why? Because all of the county GOP executive committee’s in Florida are backing Marco Rubio and the cable channels are documenting Crist’s flip-flops with great diligence. In other words, Crist is hoping a lot of ignorant voters show up to vote for him on election day.

tenebrous (Diary) Tuesday, November 24th at 1:14AM EST (link)What does the third sentence mean? Also, if a tax was universally supported, then both Crist and Rubio should be nailed for supporting it, because they both did. Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not shelling for Crist; based the totality of the evidence, I find him to be a RINO, a liar, and probably senile — dogging on executive councils and pointing to DKos are not the actions of even a moderate Republican — but some of the charges against him are either unclear or dubious.
You mean the property tax one?
JoeG Tuesday, November 24th at 10:30AM EST (link)If you get rid of a property tax and replace it with a sales tax increase, that can be tax neutral, tax increasing or tax reducing depending on how much the sales tax increases. Just in itself, substituting a tax can be any of them. But the elimination of one form of taxation and increasing another does eliminate the personal burden of compliance AND cuts government bureaucracy. On that alone tax substitution is a good conservative goal so long as it isn’t a stealth tax increase.
If it was revenue neutral, then it makes Crist a liar.
Either way it makes Crist a hypocrite if he’s criticizing Rubo for going along with an idea that originated with Crist.
This is what I mean....
tenebrous (Diary) Wednesday, November 25th at 1:46AM EST (link)“In the latest rant against Marco Rubio Crist attacks Rubio for voting for tax increases in Florida, which were actually unanimously endorsed and Jeb Bush sponsored refusals to roll back property taxes for education initiatives.”
I can’t figure out what’s going on there. The sentence sounds like it should end with endorsed; did Jeb do something? If so, he needs an apostrophe.
And the “anti-tax” thing — if taxes were unanimously endorsed, then why is Crist getting nailed for supporting them when Rubio isn’t? There just seem to be some selective principles at work, here.
Substitution of one tax for another is one thing — a shell game, and it doesn’t wash well with voters. Oh look, I eliminated one tax, but I’ll only admit raising another if you ask. This is the kind of stuff that makes conservatives look bad.
Even revenue nutral it's good
JoeG Tuesday, December 1st at 12:20AM EST (link)Enforcing tax collection takes considerable government resources. Complying with tax laws burns up personal and/or corporate resources that could be better spent elsewhere.
So even if it’s revenue neutral, elimination of a tax is generally a good thing.

Crist also cited Reagan 11th Commandment while Bashing the base
nelsa (Diary) Tuesday, November 24th at 7:30AM EST (link)During the same interview Crist said, “I believe in Reagan’s 11th Commandment- thou shall not speak ill of a fellow Republican – but I also think you need to be honest and truthful and make sure that before people go to the ballot box they have a good opportunity to be well-informed.”
He then proceeded to bash the base who are Republican voters and committee members who actively support their favorate candidate. He calls himself conservative and then insults true conservatives.

Rubio picked up on this Crist theme last month

Of course Rubio is right!
Rubio obviously knows that Crist is just another RINO that believes he can fool enough people in Florida to win the primary . This time it will not work.
Rubio is working harder and smarter than Crist. Rubio recognizes the energy that the base has created and the grassroots conservative desire to elect a conservative to the US Senate.
Crist is “stuck on stupid” or more accurately I would say that he has adopted the playbook of the national GOP where princiiples seem to have been abandoned in favor of a win. That strategy is no longer working because we are tired of RINOS.

gramma73 Tuesday, November 24th at 11:23AM EST (link)We were for Crist once. But after listening to Marco we knew who our candidate would be! Marco Rubio. My husband was a Dem until obama came to the forefront. Now he has change sides. We both think Crist is too friendly with Obama, what with riding on Air Fore One, etc. I can hardly wiat for 2010 and then 2012. We the People must take our country back from the brink of oblivion. That is where obama and his ilk are leading us. I wonder what charlie thinks of the terrorists being brought to this country for a cicus trial??
Today the Rubio campaign responded to Crist's attack
nelsa (Diary) Tuesday, November 24th at 2:54PM EST (link)RUBIO CAMPAIGN STATEMENT
“Charlie Crist is demonstrating an alarming contempt for the very Republican voters whose support he seeks. Governor Crist is clearly frustrated about his self-made credibility crisis and his endorsement of a stimulus policy that has failed to create the jobs he promised, but these are not acceptable excuses for him to lash out at Republicans. Charlie Crist is out of touch with Republicans who believe in less spending and lower taxes, but he’s increasingly in sync with Democrats who dismiss Republicans as angry Americans.” – Rubio campaign spokesman Alex Burgos
love of country
olddog Tuesday, November 24th at 7:40PM EST (link)should come before love of party, we need to ferret out the likes of him and find people who hold to the founding values, individual freedom just short of anarchy. That is what will help this country grow, Becoming O’s socialist dream, is something to be resisted by being involved. I am from Pa. and after checking his record, as good as I could, have become a strong supporter of Mr. Rubio’s campaign small amounts but many, from those, who want our country back. As patriotic as the folks were, while I grew up, pledging allegiance, and saying the morning prayer, in school and the parades, celebrating the G I ” s return in victory. It may be old school, but should be made fashionable again. Pride of Country ,not apologies.
