…, when the crew were trapped on the ice and food was very low, one of the men was walking around the edge of the ice floe. He saw a leopard seal pop his head out of the water and give him the hungry eye. The starving crewman started flapping his arms and waddling around in imitation of a penguin. The leopard seal hopped onto the ice and went after the man. He turned and ran screaming back toward the camp – the seal hot on his heels. One of the men in camp grabbed a rifle and dropped the seal providing several day’s rations of much needed meat. You know you’re hungry when you use yourself as bait for a vicious predator.
