sorry, Art, I didn't realize that qualifications, or lack therof, could be racist. But then, being the knuckle dragger I am, that's to be expected.

A good case for a "Surge" in Afghanistan. Whether or not the Obamanistas recognize it or not, they're not looking to win there anyway. A Surge, winning, troop morale, are all just minor variables in their political calculation.

First, to answer your question: I am an Air Force retiree. I have always been taught that civilians place their right hand over their heart during the play of the national anthem and when the first U.S. flag goes by in a parade, for instance. I believe the same applies to Taps, but I'm not sure. If I'm in civilian clothes, I will always place my right hand on my heart at a time that I would salute were I in uniform. I might be wrong... but the salute doesn't hurt.

I first saw this photo on Lucianne on November 12 and took it as accurate because of the source; however, still wanting to validate it, I searched Veterans Day videos of the event where I could isolate the photo. Then I came across Eric's input saying it was Memorial Day, not Veterans Day. That is when I searched again and came across this amateur video. In the video, the TelePrompter on the right is above the head of the officer on the right - different angle from the above photo, but same location, same ceremony, same time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obhNsD5TbJ8
Same military officers and civilian, same position of the flowers, the podium, the officers and civilian - but different angle. If you go to approx 2:10, you see him starting to straighten his arms from having them in front of him, getting ready for the next movement and then they all start saluting around 2:33 and you can clearly see him with his hand on his heart. At no point while the officers are still saluting does he take his hand down. Then around 3:41, you see a woman remove her hand from her heart and then it pans to the dais and they all remove their hand. It is just not believable that he would have, at any point during Taps, removed his hand to assume that pose, then resumed it.

Many people, no doubt, took videos and photos of the event. Easy to PhotoShop O from an earlier stand with hands in front of him and transpose it to the saluting frames. I was taken in because of last year's flap during the campaign, eager to believe, I guess, that it had happened again:

<i>"WASHINGTON -- Veterans and active-duty military not in uniform can now render the military-style hand salute during the playing of the national anthem, thanks to changes in federal law that took effect this month."</i>

The President is COMMANDER IN CHIEF!
If he salutes getting off Air Force One, why not the Flag during the National Anthem?

I didn't know that, and was taught by my father and others that it was hand over heart when not in uniform. When did this change, not doubting, just did not know that this change in rendering respect had occurred.

The veterans groups who pushed for that, AUSA, VFW, American Legion etc, ask that ALL Veterans render the hand salute any time it would have been appropriate while they were in uniform. We need America to know how many of us are out there!

I could never figure out why McCain, and the R's let him slide on his background. I knew the media would stay away from it, but I was mystified why, other than being "collegial", McCain didn't challenge him.
And I agree, a demand for a full disclosure of all records has to be a part of the next campaign.

AP article on "troop morale" yesterday and, I have trouble with the conclusions the AP reached, The AP claimed that morale of the individual soldier was high, but unit morale was lower. I can see a bit of that, there's always the "my unit sucks" mindset out there in a few soldiers.
AP also claims that levels of "depression, anxiety and PTSD were "about the same" as 2007 levels but twice those of 2005. But those levels went down in Iraq. No kidding, when the war heats up, soldiers get anxious? Wow, thanks for the heads-up, AP.
I know the AP didn't want to, but they actually make the case for a "Surge" in Afghanistan, if you can severely limit the effectiveness of the terrorists, morale goes up, not down. Wonder if anyone in the White House can help the Bower in Chief connect those dots?

Lefty loons have their Brains in one cheek and Heart in the other - why they always sit on their hands rather than react/do-anything.

All par for the course....
<blockquote>
Obama (about Ft.Hood deaths): 'could not escape the War, even while at home'

WHAT WAR? The one you refuse to recognize (WAR ON TERROR) that we are fighting. That they died in a TERRORIST ATTACK perpetrated by a lone wolf TERRORIST (that was in contact with other Terrorists) is refused to be acknowledged by you, the Obamao-ist, and your other Mao-ist Liberal Obamunist Admin. morons!

HOW PATHETIC SIR (and I hate to even bother to address you as “Sir,” and am only doing so out of respect for the Office and that “some” of your words were FINALLY the right ones — but we know you don’t mean them)!!!! (Note, respect for Office, those who see my sig-line and don’t get the “He is Not my President as a JOKE and TWEAK at Lib’s that had done that to Bush) How PATHETIC that you, the Mao-ist-In-Chief, would again TRY TO HAVE IT BOTH WAYS! Try to placate those of us that actually care about our Fallen Troops and their “Cause” to DEFEND OUR NATION with these words at Ft. Hood and then return to Washington DC and DENY THE WAR ON TERROR!!!!

McCain and more conservative Republicans should have done a lot of things, but one thing they should have made a campaign issue is the fact that this POS refused to reveal anything about his past.

No medical records.
No college and law school applications.
No college and law school transcripts.
No passport records.
No financial records re who financed his education and his overseas travels.
Etc., etc., etc.

I hope the American people, and our Party, learn from this presidency that they must insist that a prerequisite for running for this most powerful elected position on earth is a full-blown release of every scrap of paper about each candidate's past.

Investigative journalists used to dig into this aspect of every candidate and write articles about any failures to disclose. Of course, other than at Fox News, no such investigative jounalists exist in the Minion Media.

So, the Republican Party has to make the demand. If Barry Soetoro runs for re-election, this time around we must demand that he disclose the information he refused to disclose and, when he refuses again, make it a defining issue.

Thank you.

I hope the American people, and our Party, learn from this presidency that they must insist that a prerequisite for running for this most powerful elected position on earth is a full-blown release of every scrap of paper about each candidate’s past.

Thank you.
