At a recent gathering I attended, someone asked Marco if he was Cuban-American. He replied that "No, I am an American of Cuban descent." Marco celebrates American exceptionalism. Look elsewhere on site for his immigration policy. Gotta go to work now.

Huck was just PO'ed back in 2007. Now he gets it! :)

Rubio just tells it like it is and you wont find him having to explain his postion on a particular issue more than once.

Rubio is extremely pro-life, including wanting to end funding of embryonic stem cell research. It goes without saying he's also against same-sex marriage.

As for "multiculturalism," he's very much against illegal immigration: "I believe we must fix our immigration system by first securing the border, fixing the visa and entry process and opposing amnesty in any reform." I'd presume then he'd be in favor of a reformed legal immigration process, which is definitely a good thing. We need to reach out to Hispanics because they tend to be socially conservative and will comprise an ever growing portion of our population over the next 50 years.

His campaign site also says he's against cap and trade and in favor of "development of our natural resources" which sounds like code for more drilling and nuclear power. Also good things.

As for ID and prayer in school, I have no idea. But seriously, are those even issues? Evolution is "settled science;" it's the best theory we have right now as to how we came about naturally. Leave who created the universe to religion classes or religious schools thank you very much... and I say that as an ardent Catholic.

CFG means he has the cred on fiscal issues. Where does he stand on intelligent design, climate change, prayer in the schools, and multiculturalism? I couldn't find much on the web, and most of it was lub smears anyway.

Look, Charlie Crist is not a liberal. Yes, he is to the left of our caucus on global warming and all that business, but he is not a liberal in most respects. He is definitely socially conservative and I'd say fairly moderate on fiscal issues.

The problem with Crist is that he is a consumate politician and a joke. He's the GOP's Bill Clinton in that he's a poll reader and tries to triangulate everything. That's fine for one's political aspirations when the economy is doing decently well and there's no anti-incumbent fervor.

He lauded his willingness to work with Obama right after the election and during the stimulus debate but now that the winds have shifted he's trying to rip Rubio. It's extremely transparent and disgusting.

I've met Crist personally during my time in mass media and my goodness the attempt to make everyone happy never ceased. He was extremely chummy with the press, beyond the typical trying to get on our good side sort of deal. It worked to a certain extent and then when he left, even his "best buddies" from the local TV stations laughed about how he really needs everyone to love him.

The man has some core values and ideas, most of which line up with ours. But when he faces even moderate headwinds, he's willing to give up those values and not just deal with political realities but endorse something he doesn't actually agree with just so he can get political points. In a time where we actually have the wind at our backs, it behooves us to get a real conservative with a spine, and a brain, into the senate and not elect a guy who, while decently conservative when times are OK, is willing to throw all of his personal tenets overboard to stay popular.

As Erick has demonstrated, it is becoming more and more the practice of so-called "moderate" Republicans to endorse and campaign for the Democrat after they get beaten in a primary.

I am not saying that Crist is that dishonorable ... just that the Rubio campaign needs to be prepared for it.

Incumbency is less attractive to voters this year. Voters are twice burned with '06 and '08. The incumbents will find it harder to get away with their usual lies and name recognition personality gambits. People are beginning to pay attention and it will only become more so. The apolitical types want to know the truth about who did this to me. Hate Bush is being put to rest by all but the hard core leftists. What good does it do to hate a guy who is quietly minding his own business.

Talk to your neighbors, coworkers, friends and family. It may surprise you. My boss was a vocal Obama koolaid drinker who had said, after the truth about our economic meltdown became impossible to ignore, "But we were all so high when Obama got elected!" Last week she said, "I can't see why they are trying to take away our health care when most people like what they have." Never thought I'd hear that!

That's exactly right. The campaign was positive and upbeat, they (all 3 top ticket races) gave the people in Virginia something to look forward to, rather than just beating on the Deeds is bad position. He responded to Deeds nasty false attacks, but, he didn't focus on them. McDonnell had ideas and plans, which was critical to his landslide win. He focused on jobs, transportation, jobs, education, jobs, and all kinds of kitchen table issues. No one can doubt that McDonnell is a conservative with respect to Social, Fiscal and National Security issues. He never ignored questions about his social views, but, he immediately got back on the message of what is most important now, particularly business friendly taxes to attract more small business to the state, to push for drilling for oil and gas off our coasts to bring additional revenues and jobs to Virginia. He has talked about privitizing the ABC stores in Virginia. He promised to reopen our rest-areas, which Kaine closed because of massive budget deficits. I bet McDonnell will consider privitizing them as well.

If you watched him with Chris Wallace yesterday, he said he never tried to fool anyone with his being pro-life, strong family values stands. He won 61% of the vote in Charlottesville, which has been a Liberal stronghold in recent years. I understand his wins were equally impressive in other Democrat areas in the state. He gained a huge percent of Independents, and, women, and the youngins. His campaign should serve as a template for success. It proves that Conservatives, with the right tone and message can and do win, just as Rush has said. If I were Marco Rubio, I would give him a call.

And longer, too...kinda like the Cubs jersey that said "Anyone can have a bad century."

Poem to the Crist campaign:

It's raining,
It's pouring,
You're about to get pummeled.

Via The Hill: http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/66589-white-house-contradicts-crist-on-stimulus

So now with Meek trying to move to the center, Gibbs is getting out there saying Crist was "very supportive of the (stimulus) legislation." Rubio's group HAS to have gotten the audio of that one and will be featuring it in an ad.

Fascinating. I don't think Gibbs is trying to do the GOP any favors and is baiting our side into playing this up while the Dem candidate tries to act centrist. The Dems are still certain Crist would be overwhelmingly favored in this race while Rubio would make it a tossup.

As a Florida resident, I totally disagree. Crist's approval is just starting to tank and it will only get worse with 11%+ unemployment. Rubio is out of Congress so he can concentrate on campaigning while Crist will have to govern and Rubio can slam him when CC makes the inevitable screwup with the budget this year. Frankly, I think Rubio will end up with bigger favorables with not only the base but with independents as well by the time the primary vote comes.

The wave that will hit in 2010 is not really anti-Democrat but anti-incumbent. Even though it's a senate race, Crist is basically running as the incumbent here. He'll get destroyed by the tsunami that's coming, Rubio has a much better shot at this, especially if he plays up economic policy, focuses on jobs, uses his Latino background to his advantage and downplays social issues while still defending his conservative bonafides in that area.

Essentially, he should run a Bob McDonnell campaign. That will win easily in a state that is in shambles economically.
