[UPDATE, 7:38 PM]: Sources currently investigating the story inform me that the money behind Galan’s Cash for Votes scheme came from the Athens County Democratic Party.

It should be noted that the current chair of the Athens County Democratic Party, Susan Gwinn, is currently under indictment and on trial for wo counts of theft in office, two counts of falsification and one count each of money laundering and unauthorized used of property.

Let’s review quickly: Cash for votes from the College Dems, but only if the voters are from the Fourth Ward. Fourth Ward is a district being defended by Athens County Democratic Party hack Christine Fahl. County Dems, and by extension the OU College Democrats are controlled by Susan Gwinn. Susan Gwinn’s under indictment for financially-related election law violations.

Do the math.

So it looks like it has gone from being a stupid college kids stunt to full fledged political machine corruption. You know, the sort Obama was going to change.

I wouldn’t object to them saying “Democrat” and possibly even doing the full reverse moby. After all, nobody knows who you vote for after the curtain is pulled, and it siphons money from their coffers. But then again, if I weren’t a moral person I’d be an absolutely vicious bastage.

This story has gone from nothing to all over the place in under 24 hours. We’re pushing it as hard as we can, and I’ve barely had time to blog all the developments.

If they refuse to hand the cash after that, wouldn’t that where the law would be broken?
Seems like a win-win.
