First of all, it's an asinine comparison on points too numerous to enumerate (but we'll mention a rather obvious one: Stalin murdered tens of millions, the Repubs murdered zero)

Second, the invocation of Stalin is a classic case of projection - two reasons: first, the Commies are an ideological partner of Democrats; second the Dems are the ones known for ruthless purges, demanding slavish devotion to both the party and the list of sacred cows. Would that Repubs were even 1/4 as ruthless (kind of the point o this whole post).

Third, the invocation of Stalin seems deliberately calculated to enrage. He was a vile, treacherous fiend, in every possible way the very, very opposite of everything Republicans stand for.

So, now that I think about it, NO, it's not "OK".

And no one is stating that Obama wants to drink the blood of the innocent, but everything that he has done or is trying to do is going to destroy America, and since he is supposedly so damn smart, it must be on purpose.

As far as purging the party, stop listening to your masters at MSNBC for a few seconds and let me educate you. It is not about purging the party so that their are only purists. This is about having people that aren't going to turn around and give "bi-partisan" cover to the B.S. that liberals (such as yourself) believe is the right thing, when anybody with a damn brain and an Econ 101 class can tell you it is destructive.

Apparently it's not okay to even hint that conservatives want to descend to Stalin's level of purging their political party

However it's totally okay to over-exaggerate that Obama wants to destroy America and drink the blood of the innocent.

What you propose is wrongheaded and it draws the wrong lesson from NY 23.

First, there are areas of the country where a conservative simply can't win. Marin County, CA, for instance. The idea that we should forfeit a race simply because the candidate on the GOP line is only going to be on our side 80% of the time is crazy.

Second, the people leading the charge for Hoffman were Republicans who would never have considered getting involved in this race if the nominating process had been transparent.

Third, this is the wrong site to advocate running third party candidates, conservative or not, against Republican candidates.

We have a dilema. If we support third party candidates, the democrats will win. If we don't, the liberals control both parties.

The solution would be for the Conservative party to inject themselves in Republican party primaries by pushing conservative candidates. If the supported candidate wins, then the Conservative party should not run against them. If a liberal republican wins, the Conservative party should run their own candidate as in district 23.

That will eventually send the message that a liberal republican will never win an election again.

the little screed you left on the RedState foyer carpet, you meant, instead, "HELP me think...." So if the powers that be here allow it, we'll be happy to do just that.

First lesson: How to tie your shoes. (Hopefully you're already potty-trained.)

Let us know if you want an illustration of the shoestring thing, or maybe your folks just put you in the ones with Velcro to avoid the complexities of the shoestring thing?

I always wonder what it is about a functioning democracy that infuriates trolls, and then I remember that their ideology brooks little deviation from orthodoxy.

It couldn't be Stalin otherwise RedState would be becoming it's own worst nightmare!

The conservative base must organize, organize and organize and take complete control of the Republican Party. A serious third party would be manna from heaven for Obama and the Democrats. It would ensure Democrat dominance in perpetuity. Do not fall into the trap of splitting. In the words of Benjamin Franklin: We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.

any thoughts on John Boehner? I watched the John King interview on CNN - it was primarily about healthcare but at the end of the interview he talked about this issue. He struck me as a business as usual career politician who assumedly supported Scozzafava. Keep in mind he is the most likely future Speaker of the House. I would be very interested to know what ya all know.

p.s. I absolutely agree that a 3rd party is not the answer - it would devastate our cause at a juncture where we have finally awaken after a long slumber. what we need is the Republican party to represent true conservative values. Excellent examples are Sarah Palin, Paul Ryan, Jim Demint and Mike Pence to name a few. This NY23 election shined a light on the problem with the GOP and it ain't pretty.

During the 90's I was a big Rupublican contributor and often was invited to Washington at my own expense of course to discuss and help craft the direction of the party with real grassroots input.

Every time Newt showed up at these sessions though it was clear that he had no interest in what anyone other than him thought about anything. He was there to allow us to bask in the light of his magnanimity and not to listen.

I complained about it at the time and let them know that I was not spending my time, money, and effort to come to washington for a photo op with Newt. I could have cared less. Many had the same views, I was just more vocal about it. I told them that I was more than happy to participate on a real level but was not going to continue to contribute just to attend some social events with politicians like Newt.

Now it is clear to all conservatives that Newt is nothing but another professional politician who will sell out conservative values for political expediency and a check in the win column for the R's. Scozzafava was Olympia Snowe on steroids!!!

Maybe this Hoffman situation will wake up some of the RINOs like Graham, Snowe, Collins, Alexander, and McCain,. RINOs beware----we are watching and we are PO'ed. I cannot wait to watch Newt "splain" himself on Hannity soon.

Keep up the good fight true conservatives. You know what Sessions and Newt can do with that big tent they keep talking about.

I have been here for a long time, yes, I am part of a 3rd party movement - BUT I ENDORSE RED STATE and what it wants to do and be. Strong CONSERVATIVE.

I understand pragmatism. I understand accepting the will of the voters. But it has to be a system that functions and the GOP is disfunctional at best....

I hope it improves. I WANT it to improve. I just gave up hope on it doing so. But I haven't given up on conservatives or US.

Fair Tax would put most Americans on the gov dole - a prebate check that would effectively be the middle class entitlement - who wouldn't vote for the person promising to increase the check amount?

Flat tax + national sales tax (exempt food, med, energy).

I don't accept the premise that EVERYONE has to have a stake. Productive people - and the system should encourage them - need to be participants.

But, nothing will get done under the current leadership of either party - whether in office or not. (and the 3rd parties are irrelevant on this issue)

Iwhat I don't like is the government telling me who I can give money...or who I can join with to petition the central government for a redress of my grievences...

As for the NRCC the NRSC and the RNC...I don't agree at all that they are like a PAC...they are the Party and represent all it's members...

They should be there to back candidates in the General...but leave the primaries to be decided by the primary voters. I can see a roll for them in recruiting...but I am uncomfortable even in that because we have no control over what kind of candidates they recruit...and once they've recruited someone like Dede...they have a vested interest in seeing her elected...

I don't remember where I read it...maybe here...but the NRCC doesn't have clean hands in this either...if they hadn't been involved in making Dede the nominee they would have clean hands...but Pete Sessions did a post somewhere, (I think on the front page here) where he said they encouraged the local bosses to open up the process...and that Dede was selected because she had the best chance of winning the seat....so they have as much blood on their hands as the bosses as far as I'm concerned

The hapless hobbit turned into a gruesome and pathetic creature by it's "precious" . I'd cast bipartisanship as the ring that so consumed this loathsome being that it occupied it's every thought and drove it's obsession to such an extent that it couldn't live without it.

As for Madame Defarge...I'd rect your characterization because I'm not seeking anyone's death and destruction...I'd cast myself in my fantasy of fantasies...or at least my motivations more in the roll of Oliver Cromwell in his speech as he dissolved the Rump Parliament after they had conived and schemed to keep a new Constitution from being formed after the execution of Charles the first.

It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; Ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; Ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of portage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money; Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; Gold is your God; which of you have not bartered your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth? Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil’d this sacred place, and turn’d the Lord’s temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; You were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress’d, are yourselves become the greatest grievance. Your country therefore calls upon me to cleanse this Augean stable, by putting a final period to your iniquitous proceedings in this House; and which by God’s help, and the strength he has given me, I am now come to do; I command ye therefore, upon the peril of your lives, to depart immediately out of this place; go, get you out! Make haste! Ye venal slaves be gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors. In the name of God, go!
