House Conservatives Now Free to Rally to Hoffman

It is good to see Jeb Hensarling leading the rush to Hoffman this morning. I was more critical than I should have been by Jeb’s endorsement of Scozzafava. The party leadership persuaded too many good guys to go with her and the conservatives trusted the assessment.

It’s outstanding to see Jeb leading the tide this morning as those who sat on the sidelines or went with Dede now are free to choose their conscience and stand with the conservative.

His statement:

I am endorsing Doug Hoffman’s candidacy in New York’s 23rd Congressional District. Doug will fight Speaker Pelosi’s efforts to takeover our health care system and work with us to reign-in the record spending, debts and deficits that President Obama and the Democrat Congress are piling onto the shoulders of our children and grandchildren.

I respect DeDe Scozzafava’s decision to leave the race and am gratified by it. When I agreed to support her, I didn’t think a third party candidate could win and I was wrong. Clearly, Hoffman’s conservative principles are far more in line with my own, and I welcome this opportunity to endorse him. I am excited about this opportunity and will welcome him to Congress.

If we lose anyway...

jeannieology (Diary) Saturday, October 31st at 1:26PM EST (link)

then the fix is in and there is trouble ahead. I’m not convinced that that Obamatrons aren’t working behind the scenes to prove that America is in love with everything he is doing…in spite of the polls…I’m not so sure we’ll win in NJ, VA or even NY because ACORN has gone underground but is still at work.

Should that happen in VA in particular, then ACORN

janis (Diary) Saturday, October 31st at 1:47PM EST (link)

will have chosen their own hill to die on. We know that Deeds is going to lose by every single poll that’s been done and by the actions of the DNC themselves as well as those rushing to cover Obama’s sorry butt from the appearance of failure.

So if ACORN is stupid enough to overplay their dirty hands in VA, let them. The ensuing recounts, lawsuits, arrests and chaos will focus attention even more on those who support this lawlessness. I’m looking at you, Obama, Holder, and Emmauel.

jeannieology- ACORN has no chance in VA

Scope (Diary) Saturday, October 31st at 2:19PM EST (link)

ACORN is only effective in races that are close, such as in NJ. Think Coleman/Franken and Perriello/Goode. They have no zip zada nada chance of doing their dirty deeds in VA. The VA Republican trifecta will all win in landslides. If we want to see a landslide for Hoffman in NY, then I suggest Obama spend his next few days in NY. Every time he came to VA, McDonnells numbers went up.

That's akin to what happens when AlGore shows

up to preach about global warming. Usually the temp heads towards zero and all the giant puppet heads, including Al’s, end up with a layer of snow and ice on them.

So, yeah, c’mon Barrack, head to NY. We dare you…..

You know who I really respect?

Rep. Darrel Issa of CA. He originally supporter Scozzafava, but did not give her money. Last night, he endorsed Hoffman and sent him a $5,000 check. He was the first one to man up and say he made a mistake

Nancy Pelosi can kiss my asstroturf.

a$$hole. If he didn’t come out so vocally and publically for Scozzafava, she may have seen the light alot sooner. He had little to no credibility for me long ago, now he’s one to be told to just shut up and sit down.

Until the next time he goes all wobbly, which could be at any time.

Newt’s stock is trading so low among true conservatives it’s about to be de-listed, as well it should be.

Erick Erickson at Red State is now officially a kingmaker. The GOP better start consulting with him like the Dims do with Kos. I trust people like Erick and Michelle to remain true to their ideals.

Congratulations on your promotion!!!!

Erick-

I must again caution you. Be very careful not to look like the gloating victor. Hoffman needs our help.

Hoffman is going to get all of the Republican endorsements now, maybe even from the Republican Party bosses who chose Scozzafava in an attempt by them to save face. But DO NOT attack her anymore. Pretend like she doesn’t exist other than to say that she was gracious in her withdrawal, and that Hoffman would love to prove that he deserves the support of those who had supported her.

I sense that you feel this race is more difficult without her. And you may be right. On the political spectrum, she was the far lefty, Owens might be more of the center-left candidate & Hoffman was the candidate of the right. It’s not guaranteed that her support will go to Hoffman. In fact, if they actually supported Scazzafava based upon her beliefs, her supporters would obviously fit better into the Democrat camp.

But they may have been supporting her just because of the “R” after her name. We will see. And we will hope & pray that Hoffman pulls this thing off and doesn’t set back the conservative movement at all by losing. It’s time to work. G.O.T.V. & 72 hour task force for Hoffman! Winning now is more important than it was before Scazzafava dropped out. A loss would only embolden liberal Republicans.

Well said.

can’t add much except to remind all to contribute, $5, $10, $50, $100, oh why not just drop a few K’s. GO DOUG!

Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil, in its worst, an intolerable one. (Thomas Paine)

She backed out so the "establishment" Republicans could switch

This allows the likes of Newt and Graham to slide in behind Hoffman, if they choose to. We’ll see how big a man he is, or whether pettiness controls his life like it does Pelosi and Obama

Mr. Newt backtracks

thej762000 Saturday, October 31st at 2:38PM EST (link)

From Newt’s website,

“Scozzafava did the statesmanlike thing in dropping out.

Clearly the race has evolved into a contest between a conservative and a pro-Pelosi, tax increase, big government liberal Democrat.

This is both a tribute to the power of the national conservative movement to define an issue and a commentary on the populist anger against politics-as-usual.

The New York GOP has now had two troubled special elections and it is clear they should go to a primary nominating system so everyone will feel it was fair and open.

The age of party leaders picking people is over.

I am endorsing Doug Hoffman and believe everyone who wants to create jobs with lower taxes and to control spending and deficits should vote for Doug Hoffman Tuesday.”

Now that is backing the right candidate, I would suggest that we give Newt a pass for endorsing Scozzafava. All things considered he’s still a better conservative than the likes of McCain or Romney.

thej762000- No, Newt doesn't deserve a pass

Scope (Diary) Saturday, October 31st at 2:57PM EST (link)

He should have been saying what he did along, for Hoffman. In saying what he did now, makes him look even more confused, and unprincipled. I think he saw this as a chance to make himself heard and important, but, it backfired. This will not help him in the least in his 2012 run for the presidency. Add that to his support for Crap and Tax, and, saying the era of Reagan is over, and, well Newt, I’d say don’t waste your money.

The House Conservatives

Scope (Diary) Saturday, October 31st at 2:43PM EST (link)

and Senate Conservatives and all Conservatives everywhere should be “FREE” to endorse or support anyone they choose, and at any time. They shouldn’t need the OK from anyone to do what is right. Sen. Jim SeMint didn’t wait around to see how the wind was blowing because he is a principled man, not a party hack.

They were always "Free" to support whoever they wanted to.

USNJIMRET (Diary) Saturday, October 31st at 3:02PM EST (link)

Perhaps some feel “safe” now to endorse Hoffman?
But is “Safe” the kind of bold, decisive, fearless and strong leadership the GOP needs if it is to return to Conservative Principles?
Is “Safe” in politics to be celebrated and cheered on?
Or is some version of “Safe” what got the GOP into the Democrat Lite mess it’s in now?
