NRCC Officials Feeling Very Threatened By Hoffman

The NRCC admits it is planning a relentless barrage against Doug Hoffman so that Scozzafava does not come in third.

Pitiful.

Their advertising will be focused on promoting Scozzafava and dinging Owens, but

Two party officials tell POLITICO that the NRCC will continue to air TV ads propping up Scozzafava in the days leading up to the Nov. 3 contest and plans to keep up a near relentless barrage of press releases slamming Hoffman.

Here’s my favorite part, which is also the most insulting:

Asked why so many prominent Republicans had thrown their support to Hoffman, the official responded, “We’re dealing with data, not hopes and dreams.”

Let me be clear again: I do think Hoffman has a path to victory and the NRCC is ignoring a slew of polls showing Scozzafava slipping to third place, which is why they won’t take the heat off Hoffman. They have to save face.

But more importantly, the rest of us are dealing with data too — the data showing Dede Scozzafava is not a Republican. I cannot emphasize this enough: it is far better for the Democrat to win than Scozzafava. It is not because Scozzafava is a moderate, but because she is a liberal.

The Inside the Beltway GOP EstablishmentTM needs to know it will either win with its base or not at all. And the base is willing to compromise, just not sell out.

This is no longer about Hoffman or Scozzafava...

…it’s about the NRCC.

Who are the decision-makers involved with this? We need names, and we need a plan to make some heads roll.

Agreed

DerKrieger (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 1:07PM EST (link)

We have to develop a plan to take over the NRCC and all the other establishment “enemies” of conservatism.

Maybe they’re on Soros’ payroll too.

“In questions of power, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” – Thomas Jefferson

“I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.” – James Madison

Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience.” — John Locke, 1690

OK that's a bit silly

Do you have a single shred of evidence to support that Soros thing, or are you just making it up?

Neil- You asked if DerKrieger had an evidence of Soros money going to Republicans

Scope (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 4:32PM EST (link)

and I remembered hearing something about Soros doing some sort of funding for McCain, you know, just in case his boy didn’t win. I found some very interesting articles, or in one case, a Redstate diary, by our own Swamp Yankee-

http://archive.redstate.com/blogs/swamp_yankee/2008/jan/28/through_the_weeds_john_mccain_george_soros_and_the_reform_institute

Going further through the links I found another possible tie for McCain to Soros-

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageID=56177

McCain funded by Soros since 2001. It was written by Jerome Corsi, who I believe was considered one of those Conspiracy Theory nut jobs.

Then, I found this-

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1971234/posts

McCain-Soros: A false trail. If you take the time to read through the comments, it actually contains much more info than the article itself. There are many many links, which I have a hard time dismissing them all. First, I didn’t know that Teresa Heinz Kerry was a member of the Tides Foundation. The Reform Institute, which Swamp Yankee talks about in detail, lists Lindsay Graham as an advisory member, and, Ariana Huffington as a board member as well, apparently in a journalistic sort of way.

When it comes to George Soros, I put absolutely nothing past him. Of course he would support, and or fund, who was the least principled R candidate, who had revenge in his heart after the 2000 election loss (remember that temper we are so familar with), has champined the most horrendous Liberal policies, that go against not only Republican principles, but, he does not even champion Republican principles (though I’m getting more and more confused as to what they are, if they exist at all).

Yeah, Soros bets on all the horses in the race, that way he can’t lose.

kowalski- I meant to say

Scope (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 4:40PM EST (link)

The only thing that will really matter to the RNC, NRCC and NRSC is money. If they finally come to the understanding that the money will not go to them – will even go to third party candidates if necessary, they will change their tune.

How a Scozzafava win helps Teh One

DerKrieger (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 1:04PM EST (link)

I may be wrong but I believe a win by Scozzafava may be more valuable to Obama than a win by the Dem candidate. What’s his name.
Given her Leftist tendencies it’s all but guaranteed Scuzzy will support Obamacare thus giving Obama another R in his quest for a “bipartisan” bill.
A win by Scuzzy can be used by the Left to try to discredit a lot of conservatives who supported Hoffman including Palin, Pawlenty, Armey, and the Tea Partiers.

A win by anyone but Hoffman will help the Dems and it’s disgusting that the NRCC would rather not admit to being wrong and losing then owning up to their mistake and helping Hoffman win.
The GOP establishment has been corrupted and has to be defeated.

This election will turn into another Bush I sort of defeat. The third party guy pulls away enough R voters to allow the D to win. Errick is pretty open about that point above.

In the house, will another Democrat vote matter much, probably not, but a fake R vote for Obama madness and Nasty Nancy’s legislative madness, yes.

Besides that, isn’t this a special election that will come up for a vote, and a full primary in the mid term 2010 election? So what if the Donks take this one, the people of NY 23 will decide if they like that or not in the mid term election.

It’s not so much sticking it to anyone as lack of a primary, and bad stupid decision making on the part of the Republican committee members. Throw in the institutional Republican party that is desperate for a win at any cost, and you have a mistake of epic FAIL proportions.

I wonder if the national party had stayed out of this race, would Eric and others have gotten involved? Dede is a looser for sure, but this other guy does not seem to be a ball of fire campaigner and I tend to think this seat will fall to the Donks, at least for a year. Maybe the national party will spend some time and money helping whoever wins the primary for the next race but stay the heck out of the primary process.

If they were serious about winning…they’d attack the Dem and let the voters decide between Sumbagfava or Hoffman…but they would rather poison the well…and make sure nothing Republican grows in the area than act like adults…attack our common enemy…and let the chips fall where they may.

Well all you have to do is wait a year to find out if the NE and specifically NY 23 want the same sort of conservative that you do, actually less than a year. There will be a primary for the seat and the Republican voters of the district will have their say. I don’t know the area so I don’t have a clue who Republicans in NY 23 will vote for in a real primary, but it will be interesting to check back.

What I’m saying is a hypothetical because I don’t think she’ll win…but were she to win by some mircle…and Hoffman were to run against her in the primary…we’d be preached at that we simply can’t throw Dede over the side…because she’s the incumbent.

It’s the predictability of the arguments that drives me nuts…It’s the cycle of rotating arguments…during the 08 elections when we were all complaining how bad McCain sucked and beating up on the liberal choices we were stuck with in the House and Senate…we were told that wasn’t the time…we had to hold fire till the primaries…now it’s…we need unity and we need to support who can win…and we don’t gain anything by attacking fellow Republicans…in 10 we’ll be circling the wagons around the liberal incumbents…

anything to prevent changeing the losing dynamic in any way is what rules the day with these ass clowns.

BigGator5 (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 1:28PM EST (link)

Both the NRCC and Newt Gingrich identify the right question, but answer the question wrong.

I can understand the NRCC a little bit. NY-23 chose Scozzafava (right or wrong) and while they can’t really support anyone else, it doesn’t mean they should spend real money helping promote Liberal Light. This is why we should donate to candidates instead of the party.

And part of me agrees with Newt Gingrich.. Is it really anyone’s business outside of NY-23?

In a perfect world it isn’t. It really isn’t. The Republicans registered in NY-23 elected her to be their Republican candidate.

We know the left reaches into every district in this country with their money and outside influence, so not to do the same would be suicide.

But.. It seems to me everyone rooting for Hoffman doesn’t want to admit they like an Independent third party candidate better than the Republican candidate. They want to pretend the Republican party has made some huge mistake and should go hide and remove their candidate.

If the Republican party no longer represents your political ideology, then maybe a new party is what is called for, no?

Hooah_Mac (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 1:56PM EST (link)

If the conservatives leave the Republican party it will be a generation before conservatives can fix our country, if ever. A 3rd party is a fantasy, a pleasant and desirable one, but a fantasy all the same.

We already hold a great deal of power in the Republican party, just not enough to prevent stupid things like their support of Scozzafava. We need to expand that power. A GOP that serves conservatism, as opposed to conservatives serving the GOP, CAN fix what is going wrong. This race is one piece of that puzzle.

Michael Patrick Leahy at tcotreport.com has a good, sourced account of how Scozzafava was picked

ColdWarrior (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 3:16PM EST (link)

You can read it here:

http://www.tcotreport.com/23ny1.html

The precinct committeemen in NY-23 WERE involved in the process of selecting Scozzafava. There may have been some shenanigans with the voting process. But the bottom line is that sufficient numbers of conservatives in NY-23 aren’t involved in the GOP up there as precinct committeemen. Hence, Scozzafava.

The basic problem, across the GOP, is that not enough conservative “activists” are “active” where it counts — at the grass roots, on the local level, as precinct committeemen IN the Republican Party itself. Means getting out of your chair and going to a meeting occasionally. In some states it might mean actually having to go door to door for a couple of hours to get 5 or 10 signatures on a nomination form. Seems not enough conservative “activists” are willing to do that. Going to a Tea Party is not “being involved in the political process.” At least not that part of it that directly elects the leadership of the Party. And decides who gets the nod to run for an open congressional seat due to a mid-term vacancy.

In 2008, HALF of he available precinct committeeman slots across the GOP, nationwide, were VACANT. It was even worse in Maricopa County, AZ, which one would think is a bastion of conservative activism within the Republican Party. Not so. Only one-third of the precinct committeeman slots were filled in 2008.

Both here in Maricopa County, and nationwide, the Party was split in the filled precinct committeeman slots about 50-50 between moderates and conservatives. That ideological split is reflected in who gets elected to the leadership posts and which candidates get endorsed by the Party in the primary races. For example, our Maricopa County and State GOP chairmen, both conservatives, were elected in the 2009 Party leadership elections by very slim margins over the “McCain moderates” who ran against them.

Martin Knight wrote about the situation, and the solutiton, here:

David123 (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 5:15PM EST (link)

it puts the Hoffman candidacy in a different light. The Republican Party in NY 23 had a choice – it could nominate someone who was acceptable to the leftist Working Families Party or it could nominate someone who was acceptable to the Conservative Party. The NY 23 Republican Party leadership, in effect, chose to ally themselves with the leftist Working Families Party. Wow!!

I would suggest that in 2010, NY voters vote for the Conservative Party candidate especially when that person is also the R nominee – but vote for them as the Conservative candidate. If R’s start winning in NY with 25+ percent of their votes coming as being the Conservative party candidate that should send a loud message to the Republican Party establishment:

"The Republicans registered in NY-23 elected her to be their Republican candidate."

ColdWarrior (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 11:07PM EST (link)

Not quite. It was only the registered Republicans in NY-23 who happen to also taken the next step, and got elected to the position of precinct committeeman, who were allowed to have a say in who got the nod, along with the elected GOP county chairmen (there are 11) got to then vote based on how their precinct committen voted. In some counties they had actual meetings — if you showed up, you got to vote. In others, telephone polls were taken and . . . were those results in any way impartially verified? No.

(By the way, have you ever voted for your county GOP chairman, for example? If you’re a PC, you may have, if you bothered to go to the county GOP convention. If you’re not a PC, then you didn’t get to vote for your county GOP chairman.)

You really ought to take the time to read Michael Leahy’s original reporting on this over at tcotReport.com. It’s short and to the point and a real eye-opener:

http://www.tcotreport.com/23ny1.html

Bottom line: there are not, apparently enough conservatives in the 11 counties that comprise NY-23 who are “active” enough to bother themselves with becoming elected precinct committeemen. So, they got outvoted. There’s no reason to believe that, like the national average, fully HALF the existing PC slots in NY-23 are unfilled.

Conservative? Want a more conservative GOP? More conservative GOP leadership? More conservative GOP candidates getting endorsements in the GOP primary contests? Then join it as a precinct committeeman and help create a conservative majority in the voting ranks of the Party. That’s what matters. We can accomplish this if you and every other conservative you know who’s not yet a precinct committeeman will DO this.

Thank you.

Michelle Bachman
Marco Rubio

Sarah Palin PAC
Jim DeMints PAC

all the pretenders should save their money an dpostage and skip trying to get my money.

to see a backlash against their leadership and their candidates, especially if they are promoting mod/liberals when a conservative is available and a good option. The base does have money to contribute and we’ll just continue directing our donations accordingly, simple as that.

Challenge the NRCC to explain why they’re attacking a sure vote for Boehner and a Republican majority, instead of attacking Democrats (such as Owens, the one running against Scozzafava and Hoffman).

They can change their minds, and then I can go back to telling people to give money to them to defeat Pelosi with smart strategery.

The "leadership"

anotherindyfilmguy (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 1:49PM EST (link)

is so used to “compromising” (or just being able to make their choices without anyone’s input-take your pick) over the years they’ve shifted closer to the left than they realize. Slowly, one compromise at a time they’ve shift further and further to the left thinking they are still on the right because they “have principles” etc. Compromise as a tool leads to compromising principles and eventually subjugation through a thousand small compromises.

This is so stupid

Neil Stevens (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 2:01PM EST (link)

Of all the people to attack, the NRCC picks somebody from the Party of Buckley who’s a sure vote for Boehner for Speaker.

How a single dime could be put to attacking a vote for Boehner, over any Democrat vote for Pelosi, is unfathomable.

Is the goal a majority, or retribution?

This NRCC official threw a nice red herring

clement Sunday, October 25th at 2:27PM EST (link)

“The official also noted that, as a Republican, Scozzafava would have a far larger base of support to tap into. As of April 1, voter registration in the district was 43 percent Republican, 31 percent Democrat and just 1 percent Conservative Party.”

From what I gather Hoffman would have a base of 44% vs Scozzafava 43% at best (Given Hoffman’s strength and third party status vs Scozzafava’s blind support from those supporting only because of party line the “effective base” is very much in Hoffman’s favor).

I just sent Hoffman 50 bucks

izoneguy (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 2:36PM EST (link)

And I am broke…..

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

Betrayed

Dr. Botkin Sunday, October 25th at 6:05PM EST (link)

I feel betrayed if it is true that the NRCC is wasting another $300,000 to support a dead RINO. Part of that money is money that I contributed to them in good faith. I did not expect them to use it to prop of the corpse of a RINO to the left of the Democrat candidate. I won’t be betrayed again!

That's the Beltway GOP for you.

I would like to see a long string of anti-NRCC front page stories. If they want to pull crap like this, we need to make life utterly miserable for them. Name names. Call them out. Make Pete Sessions miserable.

I believe that you’ve rec’d messages from these guys before to turn down the heat? Well, I want you to get an in-person visit from Sessions this time. These guys need to be kissing the shoes of conservatives and begging for forgiveness.

Too many porkers, however, who feed at the trough and then come up for air every two years, yell “Ronald Reagan”, and expect our money and, unfortunately, receive it because the Democrats are usually certifiable Sons of Che.

After the current games from the NRCC any of my regular donations will be going to Conservatives in the mold of Doug Hoffman.

Just to many RINO’S .

The left wing intent is to destroy the existing society and replace it with a society of its own design.

Naming Names

michigan Sunday, October 25th at 7:14PM EST (link)

Just a few of the GOP heads that vetted and voted Dede to be the contender. Mr. Jim Ellis, chairman of the Franklin County Republican Committee, Mr. Samuel F. Villante, chairman of the Lewis County Republican Committee and St. Lawrence County GOP Chairwoman Nancy Martin need to get the boot. Interesting to read the 3rd paragraph from the bottom, Mr. Ellis’ quote in the Adirondack paper endorsing Dede. House cleaning begins from the top down.

"need to get the boot" -- how does that boot happen?

ColdWarrior (Diary) Monday, October 26th at 2:58AM EST (link)

Blank out.

It ONLY happens if the precinct committeemen in the county vote the chairman out in the next internal party election.

How does that happen?

ONLY if conservatives become precinct committeemen in those counties. NOW.

It’s a pure numbers game.

Our GOP is in “moderate land” because so many conservatives are spending all their times in the bleachers telling everyone how things ought to be instead of being on the playing field of party politics actually engaged in the real nuts and bolts of party politics as precinct committeemen.

Those are the facts.

Conservative? Want a more conservative Republican Party. Then do something about it. Something that matters. Something real. Spend a few hours and educate yourself about how party politics work. You can’t vote for Party leaders unless you’re a precinct committeeman. Every state has different rules. Do you know yours?

Here is some data for you...less money for the NRCC

AceInTX (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 9:03PM EST (link)

Why sned them money to use against us…

and so much for the old saw that the party bosses don’t want to waste money funding candidates that can’t win…

why not save these funds and use them for a loyal Republican candidate and allow Dede to twist in the win…instead that are dropping trow and taking a huge dump on all of us!

The “Big Tent” analogy isn’t the correct one…the correct one is a MAGNET…we need to be a MAGNET that draws these independents in who are sick and tired of what’s going on in WashingtonFred Thompson

This may sound like a stupid question, but

andysmith (Diary) Monday, October 26th at 1:15AM EST (link)

why CAN’T they give money to both Hoffman and Dede. I know it would look like they were hedging their bets, but at the same time it would be a good faith gesture that they’re not throwing conservatives under the bus.
