When I saw you replied, I was bracing myself. Sometimes people use a comment like yours as a prelude to getting themselves banned.

Thank you for being reasonable. :-)

"Be respectful, or be banned."

Could you instruct your webmaster to eliminate all posts that are just sniping at another person who is posting?

Could we please use this posting section for the discussion of ideas? Some of the intelligent people on this website have allowed themselves to do exactly what the libs do - attack the person instead of their ideas. If someone doesn't have a useful rebuttal to make regarding the content of the post, he shouldn't be taking up space here.

I have no interest in reading what one person on this point thinks of another person - I'm only interested in the ideas. I'm new here, and I don't have time to wade through the food fights - I want to learn about the issues.

Thank you.

I think it was Virginia, which isn't abnormal (they're all in McLean), but his residence in FL was his mother's. which is abnormal. I expect the Congressman who live outside the DC metro area to live around the DC metro area, but their primary residence should be in their home district and be theres, or else they aren't really representing their state.

Also, is it true you don't need to live in the district to rep it? During the NY-20 race lastspring, I remember hearing that the Republican didn't actually live in the 20th.

you could tell somethings wrong. The progressives decided to make land inaccessible to development because they thought that it was going to go away. That was a big mistake and now we many years later are paying the price. One look for me in East Texas would should how much land they own. I'm thankful that they don't own more, but I'm sure they don't anything else that the want to preserve. We would be better off if we could get rid of that iron grip but that's easier said than done. With the last 30 or so years of listening to the Sierra club and other stupid organizations, it's gotten even worse. Yes, the spirit of the Progressives are alive and well in America.

The Constitution specifically mentions what? 2% ownership? Like I said, its been awhile since I took property, so let me explain what I meant by them "owning" the land. They have soveriegnty over it, and that would have been a better word to use. Without soveriegnty, eminent domain wouldn't make any sense. Also, eminent domain can only be used if the land will be for public use. So, I agree with the concept, but I'm sure it is abused. The State is powerful, and they aren't bulldozing homes in the rich areas to build that highway. There was some case in New Hampshire, I think, that Souter penned that had a lot of people up in arms, but I can't remember what it was about.

The Constitution specifically mentions. And, if you actually believe this statement, "If you think about it, all the land within the nation is “owned” by the nation," you should seriously think about asking that law school for your money back. East of the Mississippi, "the Nation" owns almost no land.

In most of The West, the federal government is simply an occupying power. When statehood was conferred all the lands in the territories should have been conferred to the newly formed states but the federal government retain much, most in some, of the land. Less than a third of the land mass marked Alaska on your map is the State of Alaska; the rest is federal or Indian land. Almost 85% of Nevada belongs to the federal government. Public lands were once available for the common good as range land, commercial forests, mining and oil provinces, etc. They now are truly the King's Forest not only off limits to development but off limits to all but the very well-heeled. My State is touted as having American's wilderness crown jewels, but most of Alaska's wilderness grandeur will never be seen by any but bureaucrats and the very rich.

As to the poster's point about government devalueling land, it is done constantly. All it takes is a whisper of an eagle's nest or some other critter or a bog that could be considered a wet land, and your land has just become worthless.
