Sean Duffy for Congress

Along with Marco Rubio, Michael Williams, and Nikki Haley, I’ve got my eye on a few other races.

One of those is Sean Duffy who is running for Congress in Wisconsin. If you are in your mid-thirties, you probably remember Sean Duffy from television.

But for the past number of years, he has been a prosecutor in Wisconsin racking up a serious law and order record and has proven himself both a serious public servant and serious candidate for higher office.

What makes 2010 so great is that we have the potential to pick off some Democrats who would otherwise be safe. David Obey is one of those candidates. Obey has never had a real job outside of being a state and federal legislator. He’s also a pompous ass. And this election season he is vulnerable.

Duffy presents an attractive alternative for the people of Wisconsin. But he is going to need some help.

Is this the guy we're talking about?

From Wikipedia:

“Sean Duffy (born 1963 in New Jersey) is an American politician and writer. He is a principal at The Kenney Group, a public relations and political consulting firm, based in Denver, CO.

In 2006, he served as Executive Director of Coloradans for Fairness and Equality, the statewide organization promoting domestic partnerships and opposing the Constitutional ban on same-sex marriage…

…Earning the label “Top Politician” in the July 2006 Top of the Town edition of Denver’s 5280 Magazine, During the 2006 election season, Duffy received national attention as a straight, conservative Republican leading a first-in-the nation ballot initiative for basic legal rights for gay couples.”

I’m all for him if he’s conservative, but is this the same guy, or a different one?

Not that there’s anything inherently contradictory about being both a good Republican and favoring permitting same-sex marriage (via appropriate legislation). I take that position myself.

Threadjack now over.

Hey guys...

There was no such link before. I did a full search, and there were no other “Sean Duffy” articles at Wikipedia when I looked him up.

I hope I also made it clear that I had no qualms with throwing support behind him (his bio looks outstanding), but I see now that he’s a different person.

I certainly wouldn’t purposefuly link to an article that presents a clear link showing that I was mistaken, and I suppose there’s a chance that I somehow missed it. But I asked if this was the same guy because, as I read the article at Wikipedia, it just didn’t seem like the same guy. At least I would have thought that they’d mention he was running for congress. And that’s why I asked (sincerely) if this was the same guy.

I meant no malice what-so-ever, and regret the error. (You’ll note in the archives that I wrote a defense about homosexual orientation, comparing it to any orientation with the only difference being that this group is unable to act on their drives. I wrote in that diary that orientation in and of itself is not sinful, only the act – which equaly as sinful as heterosuxual union outside of marriage. I got a lot of compliments from several gay readers).

Thanks for the clarification.

Get rid of Obey

I live in Dave Obey’s district and I’m very happy to see you highlighting this race. I do not understand why Dave Obey gets re-elected by wide margins nearly every election, going back to 1969. He does not represent me or most of the people in this district, but for some reason he has fooled many of the constituents here. I am hopefully that this election will be different.
