Is it really helpful for the leader of the Republican National Committee to say “I agree with you. And when stuff gets in the crapper, you gotta clean it out” after the host of the radio show he is on just spent a few minutes bashing the presumptive Republican nominee for the United States Senate in Missouri, Roy Blunt?
The radio host, Vincent David Jericho, wet on a tirade against both Matt and Roy Blunt. According to the News-Leader,
Steele, who was in Springfield for a fundraiser on Friday, tried to interrupt Jericho, but the host pressed on.
“Behave like a man – not like, not like little boys who are running around with their little toy and can’t behave themselves,” Jericho said.
Steele responded: “Look, now don’t, don’t – I mean, I agree with you. And when stuff gets in the crapper, you gotta clean it out.”
Sigh.

We get the sort of representation we deserve, earned either through apathy or action. We have to work to get good people to represent the Republican Party, and to weed out those who serve us poorly.
Steele is a good man, but not a particularly good spokesman for the party. Far too much of the deer-in-the-headlights syndrome. Every time I hear an interview with him, whether he commits a big booboo or not, I feel uncomfortable. Perhaps that is due to sensing his discomfort and his trouble thinking on his feet. He never quite seems to be in control of the situation, a vital skill for someone in his position.
By the way, ColdWarrior, your motto regarding your political priorities is absolutely perfect. And thank you for your work in the trenches.

To paraphrase Michael Corleone, he is not a wartime RNC Chairman.
He reminds me of the nervous teenage boy who has rehearsed the entire conversation he’s going to have with the girl on their date. And of course, when he says ‘A’ expecting her to say ‘B’ so he can make her laugh with ‘C’, he’s completely disoriented when she responds to ‘A’ with ‘X’.
And to think I was all for him to be RNC Chairman because of his communications skills …!
