To Whom it May Concern at RedState.com,

I was recently referred to your website by a friend. They felt I may be interested in it due to the fact I am always looking for the truth. Unfortunately after coming to your website I realized that Red State must be a code for supporting the Communist Party. This website deals too much with socialist heath care and there is so much information about the Democratic Party. If you ask me RedState.com just wants me to constantly be reminded of the Communist they claim not to support. The name says it and a Red State is a Communist State.

For Free America,

Shawn Silveira

Well, clearly reading comprehension was glossed over heavily for Mr. Silveira while in school. I mean, what do you say to this, other than chortle to yourself.

Maybe we can get Shawn on the new Jay Leno show where they do interviews with the “man on the street.” Could be quite entertaining.

Reading comprehension is not a priority!

Billy Madison's thoughts on this guy

tankertodd (Diary) Wednesday, August 12th at 9:19AM EST (link)

Principal: Mr. Madison, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Billy Madison: Okay, a simple “wrong” would’ve done just fine.

Republican states were known as “blue states” until news networks decided to switch it up.

That's 'cos...

…red is a color which apparently is strongly associated with war, fighting, anger…all negative things. That’s why the Nets did that.

Also, ROFLOLLERCOPTER@SHAWN.

Seriously dude, go take a remedial course in cognizance.

The swtich happened in the 1992 election, which happened to be the one where Bill Clinton was fighting charges of communist sympathies due to his time spent in Russia. The common thought is that the swtich was made in order to combat (or at least not exacerbate) these charges.

I have read where it was because there is a sensitive association of the color red with Communism and that was interfering with their agenda. At the time it would have given our side too much to use against them, so they tried to disassociate from the color red.

I believe this occurred in the early 90′s. Now I would like to know ‘how’ the Nets managed to this. The last couple of election cycles, I had been thinking didn’t We use to be the blue states? Sort of the Red, White and Blue meme.

Well now we can be considered the red-blooded Americans…and let them be blue and sad all the time, which they are. Always the victim.

Yes, the networks used blue for Reagan in 80.

They stuck us with the color of socialism in 2000, maybe on purpose.

On the other hand, I’d rather have Red than blue. It’s a stronger, more powerful color.

From an artist's perspective...

Jewels Wednesday, August 12th at 10:09AM EST (link)

I actually like the color red over the color blue.

It’s passionate. It’s eye catching. It’s the color of love and power.

When painters or photographers want to make a statement, they use a splash of red to draw the eye. When patrons walk into art galleries, it is inevitably this splash of red that draws them in most strongly.

That’s just my perspective from an aesthetic point of view.

As for this guy… um… I’m thinking he might be one fry short of a happy meal IYKWIM.

Meanwhile allow me to get back to getting useful information about important issues affecting us and our future provided by this site.

mom2oneson (Diary) Wednesday, August 12th at 9:27AM EST (link)

I kind of wondered too but a 1/2 second here you can tell it’s republican. I didn’t completely understand the whole red/blue thing either but had a little bit of reference for it. I came here from another site to read a blog they had linked so I had some backround it was supposed to be conservative. I did wonder though for a second. I didn’t even know there were political blogs and forums like this I never thought about it before coming here. I heart RS!!!

Now I'm confused too!

How the "RedState" thing came about.

Martin Knight (Diary) Wednesday, August 12th at 10:26AM EST (link)

Traditionally on Election Night, the Networks colored states won by the incumbent Blue, and states won by the challenger Red.

In 2000, Al Gore, as Vice-President in the outgoing administration had his states colored Blue as the “incumbent” while Bush had his states colored Red as the challenger.

Thanks to the Recount Drama and all the talking heads referring to “Red States” and “Blue States” in the ensuing weeks, the colors stuck.

Both times Reagan was blue

JoeG Wednesday, August 12th at 10:31AM EST (link)

I remember the 1980 coverage. It was a sea of blue both times.

That's Because It Wasn't Standardized, And Different Networks Went With Different Colors

IJB Wednesday, August 12th at 10:42AM EST (link)

While Reagan states may very well have been colored Blue on some networks in 1980 (for example, I think CBS did go with Blue for Reagan in 1980), I think at least one network (either NBC or ABC), went with the more traditional “Blue” for the incumbent party (Carter), and Red for the challenger (Reagan) in their 1980 coverage.

But there was not standard system among the networks, and things only got worse (i.e. more confusing) with the advent of the cable news networks, until 2000 when the colors have seemed to “stick” (at least for now).

I dug further

JoeG Thursday, August 13th at 9:51AM EST (link)

ABC had Reagan as red, CBS & NBC had Reagan as Blue
