Since appointing anyone good (like Jeb) would hose his own chances in 2010, my bet is that Crist will find some aging party warhorse who will agree to hold the seat until 2010, and then go quietly into the night.

This was borne out when he started propping up Obama and the porkulus. The idea of being on the side of power was more attractive than being on the side of principle or logic or common fricken sense.

How can he possibly justify abandoning the position to which he was elected, breaking his promise and responsibility to all the citizens of this state? His excuse of resigning for vague personal reasons and family is unacceptable and sounds contrived. Obviously, he couldn’t take the rough and tumble world of politics in our state.
Who does he think he is, Sarah Palin? I expect the mainstream media to pick up on Martinez’ cowardly action and start reporting on this Republican failure any minute now.

I’m a casual out-of-state observer of FL poltics, so it’s difficult to understand where it went wrong. Can see why there’d be some legitimate disappointment from constituents.
But don’t worry too much about the MSM narrative. Palin was hammered because she may still have political ambition. Since Martinez has no fire in the belly, he’ll get a pass.
