The other day, Barack Obama said his healthcare plan would not increase the deficit.
Every proposal now being considered does increase the deficit.
It’s time to get our members of Congress on the record. There are four key questions we need to ask this week. We’ll take the data, compile it, and next week have a more accurate list of targets to build our opposition to healthcare.
Go here now. Call your member of Congress and two Senators. Ask them these questions:
- Barack Obama said Friday that his healthcare plan will not increase the deficit. If the plan does increase the deficit, will you oppose it?
- Will you oppose a plan that includes a public option?
- Will you oppose a plan that includes a trigger for a public option?
- Will you oppose provisions paying for taxpayer funded abortions?
Use the form and email me back the answers. I’ll get the answers compiled and we’ll have a better list of targets to go after next week based on how they stand on these issues.
We can defeat Obamacare. But we need to do some work.

The failed stimulus plan....
texas214 (Diary) Monday, July 20th at 12:33PM EST (link)may do do more to sink the health care bill than anything. Debt, failed policies, and misrepresentation of the stimulus make a terrible comparision for this administration.
Speaking of the stimulus plan

evanm (Diary) Monday, July 20th at 12:34PM EST (link)…for Democratic congressfolks, “Will you oppose a plan that doesn’t include a public option?” or some variation thereof.
I want them on the record so that, when they don’t get a public option, they can’t say that was never the goal in the first place.
Html fail. My bad.

Good idea. I'd also add some other questions.
INC (Diary) Monday, July 20th at 12:57PM EST (link)5. Will you read the bill before voting on it?
6. The House Ways and Means Committee voted down the Heller amendment to prevent illegal aliens from receiving government-subsidized health care. Do you support illegal aliens receiving government-subsidized health care?
7. Will you vote against the bill without an amendment clearly preventing illegal aliens from receiving government-subsidized health care?
8. Will you wait until the administration’s annual midsummer budget update is released before voting on healthcare?
My only objection...
mikefisk (Diary) Monday, July 20th at 12:37PM EST (link)…to this is the idea of making sure the government doesn’t pay for abortions while they’re paying for all other medical care.
If we do that, and abortions remain legal, the fastest, most efficient medical care in the whole country will be found at your local Planned Parenthood office…

A suggestion on semantics, if I may....
Kenny Solomon (Diary) Monday, July 20th at 12:41PM EST (link)Erick and all:
Maybe it’s just me, but the title of this diary reads a tad amiss.
We all know what is meant and I’m definitely reaching, but it can be taken as our side being against healthcare, confirming to the left that we’re all racist bigoted etc.
Mu suggestion would be a constant naming of this madness as ‘ObamaCare’, ‘DemocratCare’, ‘Socialist Healthcare’ and any other name that will permanently attatch this insanity to Obama and the left.
And yes, I’ll keep calling writing e-mailing and faxing my CongressCritters….. not sure that it’ll do any good ( Rep. Alcee Hastings, Sen. Nelson and Sen. Martinez of Florida are a tad with whatshisname at 1600 ).
Cheers !
Socialist Healthcare is a good name!

I think the GOP could also use this as an opportunity
suzieQ (Diary) Monday, July 20th at 12:49PM EST (link)to show their proposals as well. Not just opposition to Obamacare, but also show counter-proposals. “With the democrats in charge you get this healthcare plan…It is run by the government and will cost trillions. However, the republicans are offering this as a solution…” Something to that effect.
As governor, Romney made no similar effort to amend or repeal the state law, which required employers that purchase insurance plans in Massachusetts to pay for contraceptives.

Do some work?
1stRichard (Diary) Monday, July 20th at 12:53PM EST (link)Well I called, faxed and emailed for what little it would do, sucks being in Taxachusetts, the Marxist welfare state. Will do again with your suggestions but we need much more numbers involved to be convincing. I am finding people here that think this healthcare change is normal and good. Last Friday we had protests and I am totally surprised the number of people that don’t realize how bad it is here compared to other states. Many are now rethinking what we are getting in to and getting involved. Clearly the work that needs to be done is not here in virtual reality but with “boots on the ground” reality to give more people a reality check in person to get them involved. Despite being harassed by the police and protesting in a thunderstorm I am fighting on deep behind enemy lines. I am seeing a growing frustration in others as well as my self in the lack of participation in the real world. If we only had the same participation on line in virtual reality as we do on the front line…
Now Or Never
DavidSage (Diary) Monday, July 20th at 1:00PM EST (link)Conservatives really need to pull out the big guns to make sure some form of ObamaCare doesn’t pass. This is by far the most important battle we have. Grassroots organizations should really be spending some money in vulnerable districts to get the word out about how awful this plan really is.
If it does end up passing, we’ll probably be stuck with it for a generation. Just look at these Great Society programs like welfare. It took nearly 40 years just to get these programs “reformed”, and this was a benefit that was only used by a small segment of the population. Two Presidents that won 49 states couldn’t get rid of these programs.
If there is some form of universal health care, and tens of millions of Americans use it, we’re going to be stuck with it for a long time. Republicans won’t have the guts to take away healthcare from 40 million Americans, especially if children are involved.
If we can halt this now, I think it will be dead for a while. This will be the highwater mark for the Democrat Party for a while (unless we really screw up). I don’t think the Democrats will ever again have these type of lopsided margins in Congress, and will never have this liberal a President . We’ll most likely be able to filibuster after 2010, and that can put the brakes on a lot of this stuff, but right now this country is incredibly vulnerable.
Blue Dog dems aren't going to kill Obamacare (big surprise)
suzieQ (Diary) Monday, July 20th at 4:05PM EST (link)http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2009_07/019154.php
Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR), chairman of the Blue Dog Health Care Task Force:
“[Ross] said that that the coalition would seek to “resuscitate” the House healthcare reform through amendments in the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s markup of the bill this week.
“There’s some folks from the right that have been calling my office very pleased that they perceive I’m trying to kill healthcare,” Ross said during an interview with National Public Radio (NPR) on Saturday. “At the end of the day, I suspect they’re going to be sorely disappointed, because none of us within the Blue Dog Coalition are trying to kill healthcare reform.”
He added that he and other conservative Dems are “in no way are we watering down the bill.”

Need screening to ensure illegal aliens are not covered under Obamacare
publiussteve Monday, July 20th at 5:36PM EST (link)Yes, an important question is if the Democrats health plans will cover illegal aliens. And it’s not enough just to declare the plans won’t cover illegals, but specifically what type of enforcement measures and screening will be instituted to ENSURE that they won’t be covered. It’s my understanding that the Democratic schemes do not have screening to ensure that coverage is reserved for citizens and legal residents.
And remember Rasmussen polling shows 80% of U.S. voters oppose providing government health coverage for illegal immigrants.
Here are some specifics to use compiled by some of us
