Bishop, Marshall, and Schauer—They all declined to comment on how their Congressman was voting, but I told all of them that we would be watching their votes and they would be voted AGAINST in the next election if they voted for Cap and Trade.
They all tried to get my “address” so they could put my opinion in File 13 b/c I don’t live in their district, but I am originally from GA, so I gave Marshall and Bishop’s office my mom’s address in GA and I told Schauer’s office they didn’t need my address, that I would know how they voted by looking online.

Office says they do not know his current position. I think with enough support, he can be convinced. This bill would cripple his district.

It is already well established that the European Union’s cap-and-trade plan has not only failed to actually reduce carbon emissions, but even if the reductions were met, they would have no impact on world temperatures. Now we learn that global collapse in commodity prices has rendered the system completley inoperable.

Carbon’s falling price spells companies going bust, the loss of jobs and the shredding of political reputations. Over the next year, no politician with re-election hopes will back a policy that would triple the price of carbon for industry and raise consumers’ energy costs.

But I was sure to give them lots of praise for his position. He wanted my address, I’m sure for his mailing list, but also to be sure I’m in the district.

It is an R+5 district, and his last public statements were uncommitted, so maybe some hope on this one. (Although no one even ran against hiim last year, so what does he care?)

Some of the scuzzbags like Perriello want it to pass, but want to be able to tell their constituents they voted no. They are counting on it having enough votes that Queen Nancy will give them permission to vote no.

A key test vote passed 217-205 with 30 Dems defecting, but the corner says rumor has it that it’s been delayed because they need more time to browbeat and/or bribe a few more people to vote for it.

If so, and there are some among the 217 who are wavering, then why did they vote to send it to the floor? They could have voted no, using the excuse that they just wanted more time to study it. Maybe they are trying to best leverage it for a payoff if they vote yes.

What am I missing?

I just got off the phone with Congressman Jim Gerlach’s D.C. office (circa 3:25pm) and the staff person I spoke with stated that Congressman Gerlach intends to vote NO on the bill. That said, keep the calls going so that he doesn’t start to waver back the other way.

he just stood up on the floor of the House, yes, i’m so pissed about this I’m watching C-SPAN, and asked if there was a copy of the complete bill anywhere in the House that he could read! He had one that was 1091 pages but now he heard there is another 300 page amendment that was added in the middle of the night. They called a parliamentary inquiry but the Speaker says there is no requirement for the actual bill to be in the House when it is voted on.

HA! Now the republicans are asking that if a bill that has no official copy is passed by the House, can that bill, that does not exist officially, then be sent to the Senate?

Oh, the official copy is in the dems cloak room, that makes perfect sense to me. Obviously there is no need for a 15 minute recess so that our elected leaders can actually read crap they are voting on.

OK! Now it is decided, there is an official copy of the bill and a stack of 300 pages (the amendment) sitting beside it. the clerk is currently going through the bill putting the correct pages in the correct places, it has been decreed by the speaker that that is, in effect the Official Copy! After a day of busy signals I did get 7 connections. I only got 3 NO votes, Bartlett (MD), Tim Johnson (IL) and Dent (PA). Voice Mail at Ehlers (MI) so don’t how he’ll vote, but I did tell him I hoped he voted against. Bono Mock (CA), Mark Kirk (IL), and Castle (DE) were still unsure. Called Mark Kirk just now and got auto message that he was not in and his mail was full.

Since I live in Illinois Mark Kirk is really the only one that I can with my vote hurt. He is now considering whether he should run to be our govenor or run for the Burris Senate seat. If he votes for this bill, I will personally go out of my way to try and make sure he gets neither.
