I have a long list of blogs that I read and, frankly, I haven’t read any of them in a very long time. I’ve gone from reading about 100 a day to about 5 a day. I spend most of my time these days reading news sites and doing the behind the scenes stuff that keep us going.
It’s time to get back in the habit.
This morning I have deleted the entire list of blogs that I keep in my blog folder. Consider this an open thread restricted to one topic — list those websites, blogs or otherwise, that you think I should be reading.
I will rebuild my blog folder based on the list.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

From an Enemy Within The Gates - Don’t Cocoon
Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Sunday, June 21st at 4:15PM EST (link)Cocoon is the on-line slang for ideological echo chambers. People tend to isolate themselves and read people who only think like them.
I learn so much knowing and understanding the real enemies and how they think and what they care about. KNOW YOUR ENEMY:
I’m not joking:
Best centrist Site: Real Clear Politics
Mainstream Dem Site: Politico
Favorite Dem: Kaus Files (highly insightful)
During elections: Kos (Its like reading the enemy’s game plan)
Fading fast: (Sully boy, used to read him, but he’s off his rocker now)
Rising fast: The Nation (Left, but principled Left. Will attack Dems)
Hate To, but Have To: HuffPo (Quickly becoming the #1 Left site and you can see how they sensationalize and spin there very quickly)
I guess living in Boston, being educated by liberals, working with liberals, having liberal friends and family members and being completely being surrounded by liberals has honestly left me disappointed by some members of the conservatives conversations on-line.
There is a lot of echo-chamber redundancy; a lot of naivety about the Dem Party, liberals and Marxists; a lot jingoism; a lot of idealism. I’ve always been better at logic and argument than my liberal friends when discussing politics because they too “cocoon”. They live in a liberal echo chamber and they suffer for it. KNOW YOUR ENEMY.
Good point, Swamp
TNJim (Diary) Sunday, June 21st at 8:31PM EST (link)In my bookmarks toolbar I have a folder called conservatism which contains some of the links people have posted here (more than it did since Erick put up this diary) and one called Looney Left which has Kos, Huffpo, MSDNC (not a typo), Salon, and a couple others. Another suggestion
monstermom (Diary) Sunday, June 21st at 4:42PM EST (link)I know you’ve had quite a few suggestions, and that most of the linked blogs cover politics from a national perspective. I’d suggest that you also include blogs that cover education from a national perspective. I know that Obama’s move to nationalize the public schools, and the disaster that is our public schools, isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and many people simply don;t consider the public schools to be government entities, but at both the state and local level, the public schools take almost 50% of state and local tax revenue.
Here are two blogs I go to frequently for the latest news on the education front. The other education blogs I look at tend to be local and are probably relevant to people in those areas but not nationally.

Courtoons
Greg Mankiw
Green Eyeshades, Congressman John Campbell’s blog
RedState front page (duh)
RedState California feed
Shadow Government
The Legal Workshop
The Volokh Conspiracy
Of these Mankiw, Shadow Government, and Volokh are probably the most worth reading: Mankiw because an economist’s thoughts reveal the flaws in plausible public policy (moreso for the left than for the right, I believe, but still enough to keep me on my toes); Shadow Government for thoughts on foreign policy from non-armchair generals; and Volokh for a libertarian perspective on politics – one certainly worth keeping in mind if we are to attempt to draw them back into the fold, which I think is unquestionably worth doing even if we have to adjust policies to accommodate them.
