Don’t Forget The “Buy American” Provision in the Stimulus. That’s going to cost jobs. Trade wars are not good for job growth. This is probably most painful for those border states .

Lying can be an art form but these clowns can’t even get this right, well practiced as they are.

It must be true, I heard Congressman McMahon from New York say it this morning. At least that is the new canard, Democrat are floating in their talking points.

I find it completely amazing there is no talk from Democrats about fiscal restraint and responsibility. There is only mendacity about “hitting the brakes hard” when things start to come back. Sure, we now have the most massive government spending program on the horizon (health care) yet, we will “hit the brakes’? What tripe. When has government EVER done that.

What we have done is dig a very deep hole in the name of parochial politics on the backs of taxpayers and future generations of Americans. It will prolong a recovery that would have eventually come much sooner (and cheaper).

Look at the job loses; just one example that what was done prevented nothing and made our situation worse.

“10000 pennies” has a way of explaining the numbers behind the gulf between rhetoric and reality.

Slamming the ineffectiveness and fiscal irresponsibility of the stimulus package is great, but they have not made one mention of how the proper way to create jobs and promote recovery is to give the private sector incentive to invest and expand by lowering taxes, etc.

Many of the jobs that are being created are government-sector jobs. They are funded by the ‘one-time’ stimulus package. What happens after the package runs out? Either government’s annual payroll goes up permanently, or these new hires become new unemplyment statistics, delaying any recovery even longer.

ALL the jobs being ‘saved’ are government-sector jobs. They explained their rationale for claiming to have saved jobs this morning–they are all jobs that would have been layoffs at the state and local level had the states not been given stimulus money. So instead of states being able to ‘not let the crisis go to waste” and cut back unnecessary staff (yes, yes, I know–they were gong to lay off policemen and firemen–that’s another story about what’s wrong with government at all levels), the states keep a bloated payroll that they didn’t need even 5 years ago.

Even ‘shovel-ready’ jobs that do turn up are simply being moved ahead in time–they would have been done eventually, anyway. So, as seems to be the current MO, we are taking jobs away from the future to do them now.

This entire mess is caused by our government’s inability to say “No!” to anybody–potential (unqualified) home-buyers, lobbyists, seniors, you name it. We have therefore borrowed against future productivity to have now what we simply should have waited for. It may make sense for some capital-intensive projects, but it’s out of line for injecting a one-time, transitory, probably imaginary boost to the economy.

The only effective way to boost the economy is to leave more money in the hands of the people who produce it, not the ones who print it. That means immediate and permanent tax rate reductions across the board.

I just searched USAJobs.gov, the federal government’s official job site. There are over 327 jobs posted in the President’s home state of Illinois. Few, if any, are below the GS-9 level, which means you must have either 12 months of government service already or be near completion of a Master’s degree.

How many people who have recently lost their job really fit that criteria? Include bonus points for military service, it is hard to imagine that an average American has a decent shot at working for the Federal Government even if they wanted to do so.

To borrow from the Toyota Theme song…

One can certainly prefer for ideological reasons that stimulus be private so we don’t accrue the debt, etc., but a stimulus is a stimulus – regardless of the source. A drop of rain in the desert is still rain.

I mean, I still have it . . . how can that be, here in the Worst Economy Ever, unless by the direct intervention of Our Dear Leader?

So when you think of it, we still have about 140 million people currently employed in this country! Shouldn’t Obama get credit for those?

Remember, “saved or created” is just Newspeak for “haven’t destroyed YET!”

President Barack Obama said on Monday he expected to create or save 600,000 jobs over the next 100 days by expediting 10 major projects funded by a huge stimulus package that Congress passed in February.

600,000 jobs/100 days = 6,000 per day LET’S DO IT!

600,000 jobs/10 projects = 60,000 jobs per project YEAH, TEAM!

600,000 jobs/ created + saved = 5 jobs created (private sector), 599,995 jobs saved (public sector) What th–huh?
