Note to Barry and Nick [UPDATED]

[UPDATE]: Moe Lane here, with a question.  If this latest in what have been a series of snubs doesn’t persuade you that the current administration simply doesn’t like the British very much, I have a question: what will?

That’s a serious question that you should be asking, even if it’s just to yourself.

It seems like very bad form and a serious breach of diplomatic protocol to not invite the only Head of State still living to have served in the Allied military in World War II to commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day with you.

I mean, after all, her country staged the invasion and her troops fought along side yours.

Rather selfish.

Consider this an open thread.

It's a good thing

we don’t have Sarah Palin as VP, what with the past gaffes with the British and all. Oh wait, that was Obama too.

Enormous natural gas discovery in Louisiana: could it cause problems for Palin's natural gas pipeline?

Finrod (Diary) Thursday, May 28th at 1:38PM EST (link)

One of the links in Nancy Morgan’s piece Our Public Servants At Work mentions an enormous natural gas field discovery in Louisiana. What I’m wondering is: will this put a crimp in Sarah Palin’s plan to build a natural gas pipeline from Alaska to the Lower 48? If this field drives down natural gas prices, then the cost-to-benefit ratio of building said pipeline drops as well.

Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?

It's never been more than vaporware

Achance (Diary) Thursday, May 28th at 2:21PM EST (link)

and the Hub price is way too low to justify Alaska gas for lower 48 consumption. Unless the price of oil goes back up to near stratospheric levels, even using it for tar sands extraction in Alberta isn’t economic.

Nevertheless, TranCanada has what’s left of a half billion dollars of Alaska’s money.

makes you think that field will ever be exploited under Obama’s regime?

They seem determined to drive a stake through the heart of ANYTHING that will really help us energy-wise (or anything-else-wise, for that matter).

This was a British, American and Canadian operation and that should be reflected in the ceremony.

This is not good, but then again I think that this is BOs way of justifling the release of said photos

If true, it’s a fine reason to keep them classified. IF TRUE. So far, it’s only hearsay, and it should stay that way.

What is it about winning a foreign war that the lefties don’t understand. They only want to win the domestic ones.

Perhaps the impending Conservative landslide in the UK will help mend the presently incompetent British-American relationship.

James Madison, Jim DeMint, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan… You get the picture.

From the Obama standpoint, it'll only make things worse.

No matter what The Big O does, it’s impossible to tell if it’s stupid or intentionally destructive. The argument for “stupid” is getting harder to make.

Reagan said, "you ain't seen nothing yet" did anyone remember that?

DONTREADONME (Diary) Thursday, May 28th at 10:43PM EST (link)

When I heard Obama today, I remembered that Reagan made a statement back when he was President, I did not know what he said it about I suppose I should research on the web.

I guess TOTUS forgot that he was channeling Reagan today in LA.

why the Obama birth certificate story won’t die.

Perhaps it’s because it’s being kept alive by Obama’s refusal to let the press have a look at the actual document.

The question is whether Obama wants the story to carry on as a distraction for Republicans, or if he really is trying to hide something. A guess, barring unlikely news regarding an unknown birth mother or non-US birth location, might be that it carries a notation such as “Religion: Moslem.” Meaningless, of course, but it would have been an embarrassment had it come out during the election, thus making it worth hiding.

Talking point: "Bush punted."

Flagstaff (Diary) Friday, May 29th at 1:50AM EST (link)

I heard both Nina Easton and Rick Santorum use this phrase tonight, on separate Fox News programs. The meme runs, “Bush punted the decision for what to do with GM and Chrysler to Obama because he didn’t want their failure to happen on his watch. He tossed them some of the TARP money and left them for Obama to deal with.”

So it is therefore somehow Bush’s fault that GM and Chrysler are going bankrupt under Obama’s mismanagement. They ignore the fact that Bush only had a few months left in office at the time the auto industry imploded, and that he was up to his eyeballs in trying to keep the banking industry and Wall Street from caving in, which was a much bigger problem. It’s like blaming Clinton because he didn’t track down the USS Cole bombers before turning over the Oval Office to George W. Bush.

They also conveniently skipped any of their own suggestions as to what Bush should have done, rather than what he did. No mention of what he could have done that would have solved everything so that Obama couldn’t muck it up once he got into office.

Nina is a “journalist,” so she gets a pass. Nobody expects her to think analytically about these things (Berkeley PBK notwithstanding), nor to be particularly fair to Bush. But Rick should watch his tongue before absolving Obama from any blame in the mishandling of GM and Chrysler. He has one strike on him from his support for Specter. Now he has a second, for his thoughtless attempt to give Obama a pass at Bush’s expense.

geez, talking about subliminal...

DONTREADONME (Diary) Friday, May 29th at 2:02AM EST (link)

I used the term punt in my heading, which is strange, I never use that terminology. Then I saw you’re heading, and realized that is where the punt came from.

The MSM is punting serious debate by creating a war in the GOP...

DONTREADONME (Diary) Friday, May 29th at 2:01AM EST (link)

the MSM keeps fomenting this straw man to cause us to draw our attention away from what Obama is doing. Stop it and move forward. I do not recall the MSM instigating this type of devision within the Democrat party when they were wiped out in 2000, 2002, 1994, and 2006. We’re feeding the frenzy and the alternate story line. Now attack the enemy.

Been all over England

Mostly a good trip, when Brit Libs weren’t protesting one thing or another. Sorry they banned Michael Savage. With all the radical bearded blokes now in their midst, he should be the least of their worries. And yeah, I’m annoyed that the Queen was told to ‘sod off’ by these mental lightweights. Slighting soldiers is his stock in trade, but Barry’s got no excuse. It’s not like he was raised in our rude American culture. He should know better.

I was also at Normandy right after the 60th anniversary of D-Day. The French couldn’t have been more rude. Especially when they figured out we were American tourists. Lovely country, lousy people. They’re also in real trouble, being assimilated and all, so let’s bid them adieu.

I’m really posting to let everyone know about another story. A Pharmacist here in Oklahoma is in real legal peril for shooting to death a robber at his store.

Apparently, he shot him too many times. That’s what it all comes down to. The Investigators say the robber was already down when the Pharmacist emptied 5 more rounds into him.

The Pharmacist hasn’t made a statement. Don’t know what kind of gun was used, or any of the details of the case. Maybe it was excessive, maybe not.

And they’re thinking about charging the Pharmacist with manslaughter. Justifiable homicide sounds more appropriate. He’s been ordered to give up his gun.

That’s all I know for now.
