You wouldn’t know it was the National Day of Prayer at the White House today. The event was cancelled.
Consider this an open thread to offer up suggestions for why it was cancelled.
My favorite so far:
1. Because when your god is the government, it does not want your prayers, just your tithes (that one is mine)
2. Because stopping five times a day to pray causes a back log in the work.
3. There is no need to pray when you are your own god.
4. The secret service thought it would give away exactly where Obama might be in the White House at a given time to see all the staff praying in his direction.
5. When your faith is in the money printing press, you pay, not pray.

USNJIMRET (Diary) Thursday, May 7th at 11:58AM EST (link)Fewer people talking about the joke of a Budget Amendment submission, you know, the one that ‘suggests’ changes to the budget He just sent to Congress two months ago?
To get people talking about his ‘apparent’ lack of Christian faith (Apparent only to any fool who believed his claims in the first place.)
To get people, regular folks that is, NOT talking about the sure to be Rose results of the stress test report? (Again ‘rosy’ will be only in the publicly presented talking points. The true details will be hidden in a no doubt several hundreds pages long report, the one we don’t get to see.)
Much like the Clinton Administration I and II, I don’t trust that much of anything comes out of this Administration that isn’t very carefully scripted, crafted and designed to purpose other then appearances would indicate.
President Nebechanezzer already has enough people bowing to him.

Now look at the picture on Drudge right now. There is a reason all of The Won’s publicity stills are of that manic “I’m sooooo pretty” smile. When he isn’t smiling his face is downright evil. Yes I said it! (In my Levin voice.) Evil.

Maggie_in_Indiana (Diary) Thursday, May 7th at 12:40PM EST (link)to know our religious leaders didn’t point out the omission of ceremonies . I mean where’s the indignation of not being asked by The One to offer a prayer for our nation . On this day set aside to acclaim around the world that we are indeed a religious nation, not a peep from Jackson, Sharpton,Dodson,Warren, ect….where the hell are they?

Erick on #2 that isn't fair to Muslims
mom2oneson (Diary) Thursday, May 7th at 1:29PM EST (link)Most respect Christian prayer and would acknowledge the day of prayer here. I’ve never known a Muslim that was hostile to Christian prayer or even church services. With a religion that you are born into, there are always ones that are nominal and going to dislike any religion but the practicing ones were never hostile towards Christian prayer or services.
Try building a church in the Muslim world
JSobieski (Diary) Thursday, May 7th at 1:38PM EST (link)Christians in Pakistan would strongly disagree that they can pray without hostility.
Even praying in a non-denominational prayer room at some US universities can be uncomfortable
My rules of the road for primary season.
Rule #1: Vote for YOUR first choice in the primaries
Rule #2: Vote for the R in the general.
Rule #3: Don’t let anyone convince you to violate Rule #1 or Rule #2
Rule #4: When in a center-right argument, reaffirm Rules #1-#3–it will help us all to get along better.
Rule #5: If you are using the language of the left, you probably aren’t furthering conservativism
Rule #6: The priority is issues first, candidates second, and supporters third. Nobody is bigger than the issues. Conversely, if you spend your time focusing on supporters, you are wasting everyone’s time.

Some of the oldest churches
mom2oneson (Diary) Thursday, May 7th at 2:02PM EST (link)are in the middle east. They don’t alllow Muslims to convert but they allow already born Christians to practice. I’m sure this varies from country to country.
US Universities are very hostile. There are some things like Catholic Campus Ministry and Baptist Student Union but on the other parts of the campus they are very hostile. I think workplaces are very hostile too. I know we can’t even mention Christimas or even attending a religious service. I’d be way more comfortable with practicing Muslims than your typical work or campus crowd if I wanted to set up a moment of prayer or silence. The one problem I see is many equate christianity with every sin like fornication due to the pop culture here.
Sharia law is quite specific on the issue of new churches
JSobieski (Diary) Friday, May 8th at 2:02PM EST (link)and the answer is no.
Old churches can be used, but are not supposed to be maintained. That is not to deny that really old churches are sometimes left alone given the financial impact of related tourism.
Bottom Line: New churches not allowed and apostasy means a death sentence.

MathMom Thursday, May 7th at 2:48PM EST (link)I lived for 11 years in Saudi Arabia. We had to hide our religion, met for church services in the school gymnasium but had to account for every bulletin so it could be shredded. Didn’t want any Christianity blowing down the street, where it might accidentally cause a good Muslim to convert, you know. My Bibles were confiscated from my personal effects shipment, and the one that made it through had dirty sandal prints all over it.
Christmas trees were routinely taken from shipments as well, and if one got through, you had to make sure it was not visible from anywhere outside the house when it was put up for Christmas.
Muslims in the majority are actively hostile toward Christian prayer, services and traditions. Do not be fooled.
Mathmom I qualified my statement
mom2oneson (Diary) Thursday, May 7th at 3:06PM EST (link)with I’m sure this varies from country to country since I don’t know about every country there. I believe one of the oldest Christian churches still standing is in Iran and there are lots of old churches in Egypt.
Thanks for sharing
mom2oneson (Diary) Thursday, May 7th at 3:20PM EST (link)you experience. That is really sad too they took your Bible. The Mulsims I have known weren’t like that all. They were just surprised at some things like that they think all young women have boyfriends and fornicate. They didn’t understand the difference between Christmas and New Years Eve. But they even made a special dinner for me around Christmas time.
The one thing that bothered me is they think some body fluids are dirty so without being graphic on a mixed sexed board they won’t come close by you if just had a baby or if you are sick with feminine problems and they act like anything that touches you is radioactive or something.
Trust me....
