Keeping the Democrats’ Mouthpieces on Life Support

Ben Cardin: Standing Athwart History Yelling "Subsidy"

Democrat Ben Cardin wants to bail out newspapers.

Cardin’s Newspaper Revitalization Act would allow newspapers to operate as nonprofits for educational purposes under the U.S. tax code, giving them a similar status to public broadcasting companies.

Under this arrangement, newspapers would still be free to report on all issues, including political campaigns. But they would be prohibited from making political endorsements.

Advertising and subscription revenue would be tax exempt, and contributions to support news coverage or operations could be tax deductible.

Because newspaper profits have been falling in recent years, “no substantial loss of federal revenue” was expected under the legislation, Cardin’s office said in a statement.

Keep in mind that local newspapers and the Wall Street Journal actually are not doing too bad. Why? They tend not to have the left-wing bias that Ben Cardin wants to prop up.

As it is right now, there is zero need to pay attention to a bunch of newspapers that all maintain the Democrat Party line.

Likewise, let’s not forget that the newspapers are going out of business because of the internet. Were Ben Cardin alive in the 1500′s, he’d no doubt want to subsidize monks whose work was becoming obsolete because of the printing press.

One last thing to note: Since Barack Obama intends to wipe out tax deductions for charitable giving, this isn’t going to do much good.

So how Will this work...

if the newspaper has already left the print addition behind and gone to internet only? Then will the tax-exempt status apply to the internet new business?
And if so, does that mean that KailyDos and Puff-Ho can belly up to the B-O* trough and get some major cash or tax-exempt status?
*B-o means bailout not Barack Obama…
I smell a rat….

Really have to go after this...

Apparently, the WH gave reporters the ‘heads up’ that they’d be asked questions. He has to be mocked on this. Seems like he is going to be confiscating network time left and right…so he needs to held to account.

Mr. President, we don’t want your inane ‘press conferences’ — especially if they’re choreographed in advance.

Another Fraud

The Chicago Tribune is Obama’s home-town newspaper, The New York Times is bleeding money, and the Washington Post hasn’t been doing too well.

Tax-exempt status might give the Tribune Company the opportunity to hang on to the Chicago Cubs, and they’d be even more beholden to the Democrats, as would the Times and Post.

But this is a really STUPID idea, because politicians don’t want local papers to endorse honest candidates (as opposed to incumbents).

I WON my precinct for John Anderson (Independent Presidential candidate) years ago, in great part because of endorsement by my local newspaper, and a lot of factual talk with its Editor.

I depend on my local newspapers’ endorsements … I don’t always agree with them, but they often provide me with the background and reasons to support or oppose the candidates endorsed.

This is just a devious way to silence the people that inform the public. “News” stories can be slanted any which way, but endorsements have to be backed up by positions and facts.

Politicians just hate being held to their lies, and truth is anethema.

I was expecting something along these lines with the “Democrats” in charge of both houses of legislature and the executive office at this time.  It was only a matter of time before somebody let the cat out of the bag about propping up their favored media supporters.  Any attempts to dress up the MSM as being “impartial” are coming off as laughable.

The fact is that newspapers like any typical liberal are against progress when it comes to business. I had a liberal friend who told me he was “working for the enemy” because he was working with people in India on engineering projects. These jobs obviously would have been done by Americans in the past, but now thanks to technology it can be done for half the price 10,000 miles away.

Out sourcing is PROGRESS, and just like other instances of technological progress some people are left behind. Imagine all the horse and buggy producers hard hit by the model T and the rise of the automobile. If that was going on today you would no doubt see buggy bailouts and laws restricting the Auto because it just isnt fair to put all those buggy workers out of work, and imagine all the suppliers of buggy parts and accessories.

The fact is when newspapers were confronted with the internet they were idiots for the most part and didnt know what to do. And now that they have been one upped by the web they are coming to us with their hands out. If a newspaper bailout of ANY sort happesn I feel we will have really turned a dangerous corner.

We are constantly told that a free independent press is necessary to a thriving republic but a press that is supported by the government is neither free nor independent. As soon as a single tax dollar goes to any of them they will have become more of a joke than they already are. If I had more money I would personally try and short sell any major newspaper into the ground, good riddance. (Warren Buffet and George Soros if your reading this please note that doing what i suggested in the last line would be a huge service to your community and the world)
