…by the pounding Jindal took after his speech. I mean MCNBC and the rest of the mainstream media are not surprising, but even FOX and more conservative outlets were pretty harsh in their assessments.

I didn’t think it was the most scintillating speech ever, but it was OK. Frankly, his refrain of “Americans can do anything” reminded me a lot of a Democratic response Kathrn Sibelius gave a few years ago to one of GWB’s speeches. Her refrain was “America, let’s get to work”.

Britt Hume raised good point that the speaker giving the response is at a huge disadvantage. The change in venue from the House chambers with thunderous applause to an empty room is somewhat jarring. While the President is speaking to a live audience, the respondent is speaking to a camera. Hard to get into a rhythm.

Jindal seems better suited in an interview setting. He was razor sharp the next day when he appeared on some shows responding to Democratic criticism of the economy in Louisiana.
