Remember, that there will be an anti-Democrat sentiment present. This backlash may protect some Republican seats and give vulnerability to even "blue dog" Democrats.

Never should have been re-elected. The man lacks a core. A recall might be nice, if SC had some good conservatives they could run against him, otherwise he is in there for six more years. We can only hope his side-kick is defeated next year and it shakes the Graham up enough to use his head before he puts his mouth in gear.

voting for that bill last week. I could imagine Arnie voting for it in a heartbeat. Rudy and Arnie both may me social liberals but I believe Rudy is grounded in solid economic principles, which allowed him to turn NYC around, while Arnie sold out to the Kennedy klan and did an abysmal job in CA, particularly the last four years. He started out promising and then grew green and weak.

Obama started with something completely indefensible. It will be difficult for him to jump into something even more so.

And it will be nice to see the courts rip Obama a new one if he somehow pushes thru the Fairness Doctrine, CIR, or Card Check. Unlike his spending bill, these involve instant constitutional challenges.

I'd like very much to believe that the stimulus fight has stiffened some Republican backbones and made them remember what being a Republican means.

But then I read about Lindsey Graham endorsing the Wyden healthcare plan (http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_treatment/archive/2009/02/12/wyden-s-political-balancing-act.aspx) or look at the Republicans' own stimulus proposal to fix the price on mortgages (price fixing?!) and think they've still got a long way to go.

If Republicans are still uncertain on such key issues as how or if government should intervene in our healthcare or whether government should fix prices rather than let the market do its work, well... We still haven't returned to being the party of small government, have we?

The reverberations will go a long way to kill Obama's chances at getting the rest of his agenda into law. Doing this deed in the night, behind closed doors, etc. is sticking to him. And these are not missteps. It was calculated and connived for.

The next round (whether it's comprehensive immigration reform and its twin sister card check, Fairness Doctrine, nationalizing medicine/banking or what-not, it's not going to be so quick next time. This is not Checkoslovakia, Barry.

Both could be branded as RINO moderates. As a conservative Republican, I have serious concerns about both men on important issues. But it's easier to respect Rudy. Maybe because national security is a huge issue in a post 9/11 world.

There's something else at play, though. One can disagree with Rudy on important issues yet still believe he has thought long & hard before taking a stance. Rudy almost seems to enjoy political confrontation & he is GREAT at it. That's not the mark of a fickle man.

Maybe I'm not being fair, but Arnold seems less serious. He is primarily interested in defending his public persona. Remember how easily he backed off after losing on those ballot initiatives? Yeah, he was re-elected but the state is still a huge financial mess.

Another thing: Rudy fought hard for Bill Simon, who would have power to appoint justices & would have been a much CA Republican standard-bearer than Arnold.

Personally, I've already factored it in, and I believe what I believe. What they've been doing, they've been doing incrementally for years.

Now they are wide open with it, and when you see Rush stations going off the air because of some federal regulatory mumbo-jumbo, you will see that they have reached too far - and suddenly it ALL will be up for review, starting with unions, the media, then socialized health care, overregulation, the whole thing.

And in spite of the stacked deck. ordinarily people will have had enough, and they will throw it off.

Nowadays, the new breed of Republican "moderate" wants to be free to vote with Democrats on procedure as well as policy. And in the name of the Big Tent, he/she expects us to accept him/her with open arms! After all, even though he/she votes 100% with the Democrats, that's still better than having a Democrat there right?

dld ... look, we're open to Mike DeWines (even if he was one of the dumb dumb dumb members of the Gang of <strike>Idiots</strike>Fourteen), Rudy Giulianis and Gary Johnson types, but Chafee-types like Schwarzenegger are a Fifth Column.

We may have a Republican Majority Leader, but we'll never be able to get legislation passed, or introduce any meaningful reforms because our Senate "moderates" tend to be principle-free content-less vapid idiots.

So what is the point? Better to find men and women of principle and courage, who believe in something, even if to the Left on some issues from somewhere other than the place where they manufacture "Republicans" like Chafee, Jeffords, Arnie and the Maine twins.
