You only get to see the bill if you want to vote for it

Well this is a new one on me.

According to Congressional Quarterly this morning, House Republicans led by Jack Kingston (R-GA), took to the House floor to demand to see Porkulus.

Despite a unanimous vote of the House of Representatives to not vote on the bill until people had 48 hours to see it, the Democrats sought to back track and vote on Porkulus sight unseen.

From CQ:

Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., complained this morning on the House floor that lawmakers were being asked to vote, sight unseen, on “the largest single bill in the history of Congress.” Some Democratic lawmakers fired back that Republicans didn’t need to see the bill anyway, since none of them voted for the stimulus when it moved through the House the first time and would probably stand in opposition.

There you have it. The GOP will have to remember this when they get the House back. If you are inclined to vote against something, you don’t get to see it.

America’s Mother-in-Law, by the way, caved around noon and decided not to bring Porkulus up for a vote.

Don't Worry Matey, There Be No Pork Here

Many of my “narrow minded” conservative friends see this bill as pork laden. They are worried about what impact it will have. I think I have an interesting historical perspective that the Democrats would agree with.

I love American History, and one of my favorite books is about Blackbeard the Pirate. As we all know, pirates sailed the sea in competition for merchant vessels. When they won a battle, they pillaged and plundered whatever ship or town they captured. What they took was the spoils of war, or pirate booty, and unless they were the meat of a pig, nobody called it pork. The Democrats have likewise fought hard and won. Now they want to enjoy the spoils of war. Pirates were not worried about damaging the business of the ships they raided and neither are the Democrats.

There is one word of warning. People got tired of pirates, hunted them, and got rid of them. They cut off Blackbeard’s head and hung it from the ship the captured him as a warning. We can vote to dispose of our Pirates, er, Democrats.

They say Republicans are for the rich, Democrats are for the poor.
If they need more voters,
then they have to make more of who they are for.

We are there in the various Tea Party groups, leaderless, but not rudderless.
We steer always toward the Constitutional principles this nation was founded upon.

They could pass bills a lot faster if they did them all this way

Who needs committee hearings, debates, etc.? In fact, they could just come up with titles, vote the bills in, and then fill in the text of the bill later.
