Most people would say that withdrawing was the only honorable thing he could do considering the very public humilitiation this clumsy White House laid on him. Nominated and then immediately gutted of the census? What else could he do?

I just called (couldn’t get DC office, did NH) to let him know my appreciation for his courage and making a stand…. and that he must stand out against the Census nonsense

Good that Judd Gregg had the courage to go back on his foolish decision.

NHers have become deaf towards the Republican message. Gregg can speak of Conservative principles and look non-partisan. He might save the Party there.

He’s always been liked. Now that he has shown a genuine willingness to work with Obama and the Democrats, he will gain credibility with NH Dems and Indies.

The White House says they were blindsided. Gregg says he informed them fairly early in the week.

Judging by what happened to Gen Zinni , I take Gregg at his word.
