Are tax cuts an end in themselves? Or are they a means to an end? In other words, if they are a means to an end, what is that end? Once we establish what the end is, then we can determine whether this stimulus package is a success or failure. If it's a success, then the aforementioned "end" will have been reached. If it is a failure, though, how long do we give it before we determine that it has failed and the end has not been--and apparently will not be--met?

Webb is unreachable by Senate phone but call his Fairfax office and I finally got through to Warner's office today and the young lady said he was still looking at the bill. I reminded her that as a successful business man that Senator Warner MUST realize there is nothing friendly in this bill for business or job creation or HELP for the economy. I advised her that the only FEAR out here in America is that this bill will pass. She took all my information but was really excited and happy when I told her that I twittered and nudged him as well. She thought that was kewl so perhaps she will see it's not just "rightwingers" to are making these calls BUT serious people who will NOT forget this vote in 6 years!

Hidden in the Porkulus is a clause that prohibits colleges and universities from using facilities renovated using Porkulus funds from using them to repair facilities used for "worship" (which can include things as innocuous as a prayer group, prayer breakfast or Intervarsity meeting). The Porkulus contains $3.5 billion for such renovations and repairs.

Here's the text:

2) PROHIBITED USES OF FUNDS.—No funds awarded under this section may be used for—
(C) modernization, renovation, or repair of facilities—
(i) used for sectarian instruction, religious worship, or a school or department of divinity; or
(ii) in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities are subsumed in a religious mission; or construction of new facilities.

Senator DeMint sponsored an amendment to remove the language, but it was defeated last night. He has the roll call vote posted, along with a Youtube video of his speech:

With respect to the stimulus package, how long do we give it before we declare it a failure and, conversely, what will it look like if it succeeds?

I dont have any Republicans for my state, so I called a whole bunch of others, told them my name, my state, and told them I appreciated them voting against the stimulus bill.

If you dont have any in your state, call others, and tell them how much you appreciate their efforts and to please vote against it. I know they dont represent you, or me, but they do our ideals as Republicans and I think that should mean something to them as well!
