I have previously said Barack Obama changing the Bush administration policies on terror would get many of us killed.
They will. Barack Obama, with his orders to shut down Gitmo and bar enhanced interrogation techniques, is already headed toward Lady MacBeth syndrome (or should that be Pontius Pilate Syndrome). Within the next several years he is going to be repeated having to wash American blood off his hands because of his actions.
More proof comes from the New York Times today.
The emergence of a former Guantánamo Bay detainee as the deputy leader of Al Qaeda’s Yemeni branch has underscored the potential complications in carrying out the executive order President Obama signed Thursday that the detention center be shut down within a year.
The militant, Said Ali al-Shihri, is suspected of involvement in a deadly bombing of the United States Embassy in Yemen’s capital, Sana, in September. He was released to Saudi Arabia in 2007 and passed through a Saudi rehabilitation program for former jihadists before resurfacing with Al Qaeda in Yemen.
His status was announced in an Internet statement by the militant group and was confirmed by an American counterterrorism official.
“They’re one and the same guy,” said the official, who insisted on anonymity because he was discussing an intelligence analysis. “He returned to Saudi Arabia in 2007, but his movements to Yemen remain unclear.”
The previous administration did not lightly make the decision to house terrorists at Gitmo. This administration would rather pander to the left than keep us safe.

izoneguy (Diary) Friday, January 23rd at 10:37AM EST (link)And it is doing just that. I don’t think anyone that supports Obama is immune from bullets or bombs. They will get killed just the same as if you do not support what Obama is doing. The left is actually woefully undertained as far as self-defense anyway. They do not believe in weapons for self-protection. A terrorist does not know if you are red or blue. They don’t care. Obama has placed a huge target on America and I don’t like it.
The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

One can only hope these Americans will not die in vain.
Imagine that - in a New York Times article!
Praying (Diary) Friday, January 23rd at 12:42PM EST (link)It must be a really, really stupid idea if even the NYT is publishing an article inferring that this might not be such a great idea… I’d have made the language a wee bit stronger than to say “potential complications” but considering the bobble-headed response the MSM and NYT in particular has given this clown for the past 2 years…

They’re making their bed, let them sleep in it. All the talking in the world will not change their minds. They are convinced that the previous administration was hell bent on being torturers. Little do they know, that all the manuals and policies in the world, will not change the aggressive tactics of field agents who capture terroris; nor should they. Yes it will curtail some, but there’s not a prayers chance it will abolish it. You do have to laugh a bit at their intensity with this subject. Just visit any police station in any large city in America and see how some of our common day criminals are treated; Gitmo prisoners are at the Ritz in comparison.

Yes, what was President Obama thinking when he let this guy go in 2007?
designbot Friday, January 23rd at 1:39PM EST (link)I just want to get this straight. This article is about a person who was held at Guantanamo Bay, did go through “enhanced interrogation,” was evaluated under the Bush administration’s preferred system, was determined not to be a threat and was released by the Bush administration.
And this is proof that “the Bush administration policies on terror” were effective, and should not be changed.
By your logic, does George W. Bush have to wash “American blood off his hands” if this guy attacks anybody?
Seriously, wolfgang?

Just to reiterate, this guy was released by the Bush administration. You are calling for the execution of George W. Bush. I suppose since he’s no longer in office, that’s not treason.
I suppose learning from past mistakes is unheard of in your world.

Nit picked
designbot Friday, January 23rd at 2:57PM EST (link)You’re absolutely correct; I have no idea whether the interrogation of Said Ali al-Shihri was “regular” or “enhanced.”
Either way, my point still stands. Said Ali al-Shihri was released under “the Bush administration policies on terror” over a year ago, not as a result of anything Barack Obama has done. It’s absurd to hold his case up as an example of those policies’ success.
If Erick Erickson takes his argument seriously, then he would have to agree that President Bush has “blood on his hands” for any future attacks that Said Ali al-Shihri carries out.
If that’s how anyone here feels, I’d love to hear it.
Designbot...sorry but your argument is not valid...
Attack Mode (Diary) Friday, January 23rd at 3:07PM EST (link)The policies of the Bush administration wrt Gitmo provides for risk mitigation in the release of any of the prisoners. There will be individuals like Said Ali al-Shihri who will slip by despite the mitigation.
The point Erick is making though is that with the closure of Gitmo and the loss of risk mitigation on individual prisoners, we will see an abundance of prisoners released who will then return to Terrorism.
Furthermore you must recognize that the Bush administration was forced to release many of the prisoners from Gitmo because of actions by the Dems in congress since 2006.
At this point I highly doubt that you are even here in good faith …especially since you knowingly lied in your first post ever on RedState.

loss of risk mitigation?
A sockpuppet who wants you divided, and who can't keep track of the accounts. Sad, sad sockpuppet. Friday, January 23rd at 3:29PM EST (link)Is the enhanced interrogation the risk mitigation? Where has it been said there will not be a policy put in place to determine what should be done with each of the individuals. The only suggestions in this policy is that they should be held in US based facility (I am sure Fort Leavenworth can handle it) and that we will use the Army Field Manual procedures for any additional interrogation done to these people.
I assume from the title that this was meant to be a reply to me...
Attack Mode (Diary) Friday, January 23rd at 3:43PM EST (link)The risk mitigation was not the interrogation techniques, I am talking about when they evaluate a prisoner for release. As it stands now there will no longer be an evaluation of prisoners being released.
As far as putting the terrorists in the brig at Ft. Leavenworth, this really is not a reasonable choice. The facility on Ft. Leavenworth is for former soldiers in the U.S. Military, who have been convicted of crimes. It is not really designed to hold the type of prisoners being held at Gitmo. Furthermore, if you were to move the terrorist to “the Castle”, you would be endangering the lives of every military family member who is housed on the base. That would actually increase the risk, not relieve the risk.

No where in the text does it lay out a plan for determining whether or not the individuals will return to terrorism, also there is nothing about requirement for rehabilitation programs upon, such as what we had under President Bush.
All that is in the executive order is a process for determining legal status of those who are confined.
Nice to know you are still lying.
Now you should probably follow Moe’s advice before he gets in a bad mood.
