The Vice Chairman of the RNC, or the Co-Chairman, however you look at it, it the GOP’s gender quota position. It’s always a woman in that spot.
One of those women running is Renee Amoore. I understand, as an African-American, her enthusiasm for Barack Obama, but still . . . it’s kind of disconcerting when the would be number two says stuff like this:
Even though I’m Republican, I’m African-American first,” said Amoore, who worked and voted for Sen. John McCain. “Just because I don’t believe in some of his policies, it doesn’t mean I don’t want him to be successful. He has made people feel really good and that’s important. Dr. King talked about that dream.”
An outstanding motivational speaker never at a loss for words, Amoore was challenged to describe what she’ll be feeling in D.C.
“We’ll probably be in tears,” she said. “There are no words for it. But it’ll be an awesome experience.”
And then there’s this:
Renee Amoore, a ranking member of the Pennsylvania Republican state committee since 1992, says she wishes her party would quit all of the negative-campaigning shenanigans and get back to important issues like health care, jobs and taxes.
When I pressed her further on whether she’d cross party lines to vote for Obama, she refused to commit either way, saying only that she’d make that call after meeting with party officials.
I do understand the historic nature of Barack Obama’s election — we have moved beyond our past in this election. But I always cringe when any person puts race ahead of all else — we’re a nation wherein the color of one’s skin should be irrelevant. Ms. Amoore does not seem to be there yet.

There are a bunch of people
USNJIMRET (Diary) Monday, January 19th at 7:32PM EST (link)who missed Dr King’s point.
And all of them voted for Mr Obama.
As you said, someone who puts “African” ahead of American isn’t an American first, and not a Republican second, and has no business in the RNC even as a non voting member, much less being considered for a leadership position.
The word “traitor” comes to mind.
Say what?!
Princeliberty Monday, January 19th at 8:01PM EST (link)What if anyone said – I’m a Republican but I’m a white male or female first?
They would be run out of town. She is clueless.

Ok friends lets call our committemen and women again tomorrow....

We need a trap door that we can pull for these idiots to drop through when they say stupid crap like this!

I agree. When she said, "Even though I’m Republican, I’m African-American first,” she disqualified herself.

We already have McCain to reach across the aisle, grab the sword and stab us all in the back. Does the GOP really need another one?

He has made people feel really good
olsmithie (Diary) Monday, January 19th at 7:31PM EST (link)Yes he has. He hasn’t done or proposed a single thing that will help the country, but by gosh, he makes people feel good. (for now.)
If the lady had said “I’m an American first”, then I’m good with that.
Putting race ahead of everything else is not the kind of leadership we need in the party.
I want a good conservative in all leadership posts. Whether they are purple or pink makes no difference, but “America First” will be a requirement in my judgment.
If folks would only listen to Dr. King and look at character instead of color, what a different world it would be.

E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Monday, January 19th at 9:24PM EST (link)And ditto for most of us here at RedState, and true conservatives and most Republicans everywhere. Nor you either, olsmithie. I can respect that you want to be magnanimous on that point, but I’m not going to be. I know what he plans, and I know what his dubious qualifications are. I know what the nuclear football is, and I know what is in the dark hearts of the radical Muslim terrorists.
I shudder.
And this lady better not come within a mile of being the co-chair, not if we want Republican to stand for something.

olsmithie (Diary) Tuesday, January 20th at 12:14AM EST (link)but I must have failed to make mine clearly.
Obama gives people the feeling of giddiness and happiness the same way any other con-man does. All stage effects and BS, no substance.
My apologies if I in any way gave the notion I was happy about the first Marxist in the White House., or that the “One” makes me happy.
I am not attempting to be “magnanimous”, but “sarcastic and mocking” of the Obamanation .
We shall, of course, keep up the good fight.

I think Obama's inauguration will be a political Y2K
Elizabeth Christian (Diary) Monday, January 19th at 8:33PM EST (link)I think that at 12pm when Obama is sworn in as the next POTUS the liberals, moderates, independents and all those who have been charmed by this man will be in for a very big surprise. I heard a clip from the night Obama won on Hannity and the lady said “I won’t have to buy gas for my car anymore, or pay my mortgage on my house anymore, if we help him (Obama), he will help us”. Unfortunately for this lady and others Obama and his liberal friends will not be at the gas pumps to pump their gas (and pay for it), their mortgages will still be due, will there be another big round of foreclosures of those just hanging on until Obama gets in? Karl Rove said on that same show today a lady called the bank who was trying to repo her car in Texas and said to them “you can’t get my car because when Obama gets in there I am going to be rich”. This is dangerous these people are expecting to the world to stop, their bank accounts to fill immediately, and houses to be paid for. Now this all may be the goal of Obama, who knows his “plans” which we never see the details of disappear and “change” moment to moment so only God truly knows what is coming next, but on 1/20/09 this will not happen. I’m with Rove it is a whole lot easier to campaign than govern, buckle your seat belts and get ready to work hard because the next 2-4 years will be interesting to say the least.
As far as the #2 at the RNC basically not confirming who she would vote for McCain/Obama – no wonder Obama won. Could you imagine if the #2 at the DNC reacted this way and was conflicted over McCain – they would have been tossed out in a heartbeat – immediately. That is crazy. This is historic, Obama is the first bi-racial President (my son is also bi-racial and said mom he is like me, he is black and white, did he forget about the white part of his family? – out of the mouthes of babes). I get that this is historic for the African-American/black community and that is great, Obama the person who will be governing that is the part that is not so great – color blind looking at policies only is very scary because he never gives details to anything and promises everybody anything they want.
Seriously the #2 at the RNC – wow – the RNC is the ones who really need “change” the #1, #2, and I think all leadership positions that I have heard anything about needs to have a purge- clean house – send the leadership (or lack there of) home and start over – get conservatives in there please because I cannot and will not back the GOP just because they used to represent something – I’ll be like Hannity I guess a conservative in exile.

Not only will Obama not
izoneguy (Diary) Monday, January 19th at 8:47PM EST (link)fill the gas tank or pay the mortgage, he might just take your job away. All of the people with money who own the business’s and run the corporations have been running for the hills. They are in protect mode and taking a look & see attitude. I knew the minute Obama was getting stronger only meant the business outlook was getting weaker. The business sector will take this Obama distraction and cut even more if Obama starts the talk of tax hikes because he has nothing in his bag of tricks left. Getting elected was the easy part. Running a capitalistic nation with a marxist attitude is like mixing oil & water.
The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.
Sadly, Yes he can!!! I agree 100%
Elizabeth Christian (Diary) Monday, January 19th at 8:56PM EST (link)I have a business I am ready to start. I even have the business cards printed up and the only thing I have not done is go to get set up with the state and the county because it is on hold and will stay on hold until our country is straightened out. I will not start a business to give this guy my money to pay for that lady’s gas or mortgage because if he has his way he will do that but it will not be 1/20/09 and these folks are truly believing it will “change” tomorrow – scary times ahead for sure.

One more thing that is sad...
Elizabeth Christian (Diary) Monday, January 19th at 9:05PM EST (link)I spent the last 8 years working really hard putting myself through school and getting my first associates degree so that I could work as a Registered Nurse and take care of my son and build a life for us, and now working hard to get my bachelors in political science so I can eventually get to law school where I want to go. What is sad about this picture? Under the last 8 years (thank you President G.W. Bush) I had the freedom to go after the American dream and when you work hard and never give up you can climb the ladders of success and help people along the way too and take care of your family, that is the American dream to me and now that is in danger. Have I worked so hard for nothing? Will my hard work be taken away? I will continue to work hard with uncertainty ahead for the American dream because I am an American and elections do have consequences and it will take many years to straighten out the government I am sure when Obama is done (if we have a government left) so I want to be there to help pick up the pieces and restore America to a free market, conservative place that our founding fathers would be proud of.
Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

answer: yes, your hard work will be taken away
icbm (Diary) Monday, January 19th at 9:38PM EST (link)you will be effectively enslaved for somewhere between a tenth to a quarter to of the year (factoring in the benefits you receive from what you pay in taxes rather than counting all the taxes you pay as a total loss).
and if you are lucky enough to become very successful, you will enslaved for a longer period of time every year.
