what I remember is he made sure Barry doesn’t forget about the terrorist threat….

Hey Barry?……Kill the terrorists….

and I still didn’t get your answer on Israel…?

next post please…

I thought president Bush was great in this speech

PaRep (Diary) Thursday, January 15th at 9:32PM EST (link)

Unfortunately he grew some stones with the press at the end of his terms at the White House

Quite moving.

spainishirish (Diary) Thursday, January 15th at 9:33PM EST (link)

It reminded me of why I like GW Bush the man so much.

Compassion

givemeliberty Thursday, January 15th at 9:56PM EST (link)

He seems to really get it when dealing with those who have lost a loved one in the line of duty. You could see the respect those in attendance have for the MAN not just the POTUS.

Stand for something

fisk2521 Thursday, January 15th at 10:22PM EST (link)

I agree with O’Reilly and Laura Ingraham. It was a great speech made by a sincere honest man. He should have done this long ago – - he should have defended his stand on things throughout his Presidency instead of allowing the nut jobs on the left do it for him.

The problem with conservatives is that they don’t fight back, defend their beliefs and ideology and allow the loud, crazies to define the arguments. We have to become pit bulls like the minority ruling party – - the Dems.

President Bush deserves our thanks for keeping us safe since 9/11. He deserved the support of those Democrats who voted for the funding of the War in Iraq and our soldiers deserved to be treated with respect and support by all the left over hippies from the 60′. It didnt’ happen and now we letting them redefine history.

Churchill was correct when he supported the idea of realizing it’s OK if someone doesn’t like you:

“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”

Churchill's better quote on enemies is

something to the effect, “They’ll hate me? I don’t care as long as they fear me.”

And that’s the part that’s missing from GWB.

The man just infuriates me!

Achance (Diary) Thursday, January 15th at 10:28PM EST (link)

Even today after ignominious defeat of his Party that abandoned him, he attributes good faith to his domestic enemies. Nice guys get beat! Nice guys have approval ratings in the ‘teens.

God, at one level I love him for his straightforwardness and dedication, but this Christian Love your enemy stuff just drives me nuts. I’m afraiid I’ll have to remain a Pagan in that respect.

In Vino Veritas

Praying (Diary) Thursday, January 15th at 10:44PM EST (link)

Don’t be angry for him – if he’s OK with it, I’m OK with it. And remember, his approval rating was consistently higher than that of congress. The world would be a better place if more of us supposedly on the same side (i.e., the American side) could attribute good faith to each other. Politics didn’t used to be so nasty, or maybe I was just young and naive back then. I’m not so sure he loves his enemy so much as he forgives them. Anyway, that’s his choice, I admire him for it, and you shouldn’t let it upset you so much! :)

No!!!11!1!!1!1! The Bilderbergers are coming

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

mbecker908 (Diary) Thursday, January 15th at 10:59PM EST (link)

I’ll accept your premise with respect to football, basketball and baseball. There’s no net good/bad effect based on outcomes. The same cannot be said for politics.

The fact that his approval rating was better than that of Congress is nothing more than mental masturbation. He and his party are on the streets and the people running Congress (those with the all-time low approval rating) are running the show.

Politics has always been a nasty business. And with respect to the idea that we should “attribute good faith” to the Democrats, that’s an award winner in the category “Dumbest Most Counterproductive Ideas Ever”. As far as “forgiveness” goes, they should be looking for God’s forgiveness and we should be using every waking minute to discredit them, to indict them and to hound them from public life. The people running the Democratic Party (and the NYT, etal) are not “good decent folk” they are enemies of liberty and the American Dream.

Oh, and “they” are not on the “American side”. “They” are on the side of the UN and EU.

An early reference . . .

Steve W (Diary) Friday, January 16th at 12:27AM EST (link)

Chesterton early in the last century made the following points about the Germans. If you replace the word Prussian with Democrat you might find an amazing correlation . . .

In these slight notes I have suggested the principal strong points of the Prussian Democrat character.

  • A failure in honor which almost amounts to a failure in memory:
  • an egomania that is honestly blind to the fact that the other party is an ego; and,
  • above all, an actual itch for tyranny and interference, the devil which everywhere torments the idle and the proud.
  • To these must be added a certain mental shapelessness which can expand or contract without reference to reason or record; a potential infinity of excuses.

bullets and replacement mine

I might try to explain it – but, I couldn’t say it better. Again . .

No, the danger of the Pruss Democrat is that he is prepared to fight for old errors as if they were new truths. He has somehow heard of certain shallow simplifications, and imagines that we have never heard of them. And, as I have said, his limited but very sincere lunacy concentrates chiefly in a desire to destroy two ideas, the twin root ideas of rational society. The first is the idea of record and promise: the second is the idea of reciprocity.

replacement mine

We must fight – I believe that if we do not – the very fabric of the United States of America is at stake.

The ultimate determinant in the struggle now going on for the world will not be bombs and rockets but a test of wills and ideas-a trial of spiritual resolve: the values we hold, the beliefs we cherish and the ideals to which we are dedicated.

Steve W (Diary) Friday, January 16th at 9:30AM EST (link)

For those who’d like a more specific reference – the quotes above were from “The Appetite of Tyranny”, but here’s another quote before I go . . .

The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.

The ultimate determinant in the struggle now going on for the world will not be bombs and rockets but a test of wills and ideas-a trial of spiritual resolve: the values we hold, the beliefs we cherish and the ideals to which we are dedicated.

Let's put it another way:

aesthete (Diary) Friday, January 16th at 12:06AM EST (link)

Would it be “loving” for you to give a homeless man money, if you knew he was going to use it to get high?

Would it be “compassionate” to give a student a good grade in a class that he did poorly in, when his lack of understanding of the material will cause him to lose opportunities in jobs and education?

Is it “kind” to let your kids do whatever they want, if that means they’ll get hurt?

Now, ask yourself this: is it “good faith” not to address problems in policy that Democrats have that will not only lower our security, comfort, and quality of life, but theirs as well? It’s not “compassionate” to them, and it’s certainly not compassionate to America.

The act of defending any of the cardinal virtues has today all the exhilaration of a vice – G.K. Chesterton

To amend: I don't think we should be dishonest

aesthete (Diary) Friday, January 16th at 12:07AM EST (link)

But I do think that, if we’re not using everything we’ve got to fight the Dems and their policies, we’re failures, as far as politics goes.

The act of defending any of the cardinal virtues has today all the exhilaration of a vice – G.K. Chesterton

No, it's not OK ... and we have every right to be angry and upset at him for it.

Martin Knight (Diary) Friday, January 16th at 11:23AM EST (link)

And remember, his approval rating was consistently higher than that of congress.

With all due respect, I doubt anyone has written anything dumber than this in a very long while. Did the loss of so many seats in the House and Senate, and of the White House somehow escape you?

His being “OK with it” is the reason why the GOP is in the worst condition it has been since Watergate, and you’re “OK with it”? Are you out of your mind?

In case you’re not aware, when we gave him our votes and made him our nominee for President in 2000, we also gave him stewardship of our brand as the titular head of the Republican Party.

Once he stood on that stage and accepted our nomination, he relinquished his right to choose to sit back and let himself be ripped apart by the opposition for any reason, because, for good or ill, upon his acceptance and his subsequent victory on Election Day, our fortunes became tied to his.

That he did just that was a betrayal not only of himself but the millions upon millions of men and women who stood behind him, voted for him, donated to his campaigns, walked the streets and made the calls to get him elected and re-elected four years later.

And worse, it was a betrayal of his own Presidency and the Presidency itself as an institution.

A President has no right to refuse to aggressively defend his own honor. It is in fact the duty of every President of the United States to safeguard his own credibility on every front, not just to ensure that the people have faith in his ability to make decisions – but as a matter of national security; nothing terrifies America’s enemies more than a President with the solid backing of the American people.

Bush meekly allowed his Presidency to be made into a laughingstock at home and weakened himself abroad.

It really doesn’t matter whether or not it was unfairly done by the opposition with the help of a partisan Press Corps, the President had opportunities, means and outlets for setting the record straight available well beyond what the Reagan White House would have killed for and he did nothing.

And no, it is certainly not OK.

Thank you Martin

Thank you,

For this reason I believe the blood of American men and women stain the hands and reputations of Democrats.

A responsible President.

givemeliberty Friday, January 16th at 10:26PM EST (link)

I believe that much of the responsibility for the losses in recent years is related to Mr. Bush but it may not be entirely his fault. As has ben mentioned before he never really went after his attackers or defended himself. In my opinion this has to do with his personality. He like myself and others may not be a confrontational person. Like it or not we elected him twice knowing at least once what we were getting. The second reason I feel that it may not be entirely his fault lies in the MSM. Even if he had been more aggressive would it have done any good? Not likely with the leftist media. I am no Bush policy apologist to be sure. I do believe that he did some really good things and some things that made me scratch my head but I respect the man for doing what he felt was best for the nation.
