We Will Make Harry Reid Own the Left

2010 will be so much fun.

Democrats have picked up a combined 13 seats in the past two election cycles. In 2010, more Republicans than Democrats are up for re-election, and Democratic incumbents appear to be well-positioned overall.

Sen. Reid, however, faces a potentially tough fight. A recent Research 2000 poll of likely voters put his approval rating at 38% and his disapproval rating at 54%, a possible reflection of voters’ displeasure with gridlock and partisanship in Washington. And while Nevada broke for President-elect Barack Obama by 12 percentage points in November, the state voted for President George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004.

As Senate majority leader, Sen. Reid is expected to play a critical role in shepherding Democratic priorities through the Senate, with a full docket of legislation up for consideration in the first year of the Obama administration.

And this, fellow RedStater’s, is our task. For the next two years, we must help the Senate Republicans put Harry Reid in extremely difficult positions. Likewise, we must follow his lobbyist children and tie their dealings to dad. We will simply use the facts and we will be able to make the case that Harry Reid is out of touch with Nevada.

It is an easier task to keep the man unpopular than to make him unpopular and, besides, will have Mitch McConnell around to keep up the mitchslapping.

We Need Recruitment

DavidSage (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 12:30PM EST (link)

Harry Reid is very beatable, but only if we have a decent candidate to run against him.

Even with his high unfavorability ratings, you can’t just run any politician with an (R) next to his name, and expect to win.

This has been an ongoing problem with our Party. There are far too many “deep Red” states that have Democrat Senators, Governors, and Representatives. The reason is recruitment. The Democrats have been able to field much better politicians.

One thing I question

kowalski (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 12:39PM EST (link)

Why is Harry Reid such a model politician who should be so difficult to beat in the first place? He’s got the charisma of a sticky sweatsock, intellectually he’s a big rumination about nothing, and from what I’ve been able to tell metaphysically Reid is more aligned with the interests of gambling in Las Vegas than he is with any kind of progressiveness or conventional morality.

So why is he even difficult to beat?

I just don’t understand Reid’s allure to the progressive masses, except one based on some kind of fantasy they have of him. Or is it that he brings home a lot of bacon, a-la Rod Blagojevich?

I mean, think about it

kowalski (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 12:45PM EST (link)

What is there about Harry Reid that’s “progressive?”

Supporing gambling enterprises in Las Vegas? The biggest carbon footprint used to produce wasted electricity and wasted airline flights and profligate waste of energy (while taking people’s money) in the United States? This is where the guy makes his money and then **DEFENDS** it?

WASHINGTON – Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is denying any wrongdoing in collecting a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn’t personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.

What is there about him that’s sincere? 99.98% of the electricity in power consumption in Las Vegas goes to run slot machines and neon signs to attract people who do nothing but lose their money. Are the progressives and greenies in his party and support base just willfully in denial?

I'll bite.

Diogenes314 (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 1:34PM EST (link)

Maybe the fact that he’s Majority Leader? A lot of voters like having their guy controlling the power in Congress, even if he is a worthless tool.

That being said, he is beatable. They’ll just need a solid candidate.

He's very beatable

kowalski (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 2:07PM EST (link)

It took the weakness in the Republican caucus to make Harry Reid look strong. Hopefully we’re past that at this point, now that we’ve had our butts handed to us.

I know Harry has to laugh sometimes when he sits there and realizes that my gosh, he’s still in the Senate. But even the MSM is going to have to shine more spotlight on the Donks in this next year. Harry isn’t going to be unscathed by them, and Republicans need to focus more and more on him, just keep turning up the heat.

Reid is a very weak Majority Leader in the scheme of things. In fact if the Donks were smart they would have him step down as Majority Leader in this Congress, but they won’t.

And that’s good. Because Reid is going to be to this Congress what Tom DeLay was to the last one.

Boxer is still target number one for me.

We need someone to poke fun at. Between the Mary Poppins outfits, the “out of the mainstream” flip chart on Janice Rogers Brown, and the assumption that government’s paying private companies to build infrastructure makes it a private project; it’s hard to keep a straight face.

She’s the only one whose name alone makes me chuckle. It’s like Cindy Sheehan.

Of course, no Republican would have a prayer of ever beating her in California. The majority of the state is made up of hard-core mostly party-line Democrats, and they aren’t going to budge.

The California Democratic Party iss urely full of far leftists, but we have a lot of independents who just lean left.

There’s a solid, vaguely pro-abort majority, but it’s enough.

The value of California’s strong unions driving turnout can’t be understated, either.

Franken must be from that part of Minnesota

kowalski (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 3:45PM EST (link)

Franken must be from that part of Minnesota that’s just adjacent to New York City, right down the block from Harvard University. That’s why he’s going to win the election in Minnesota.

He’s a member of the “Democratic-Farmer-Labor” collective in Minnesota despite the fact that…

Franken was born in New York, the son of Phoebe G. Kunst, a homemaker and real estate agent, and Joseph P. Franken, a printing salesman.[6][7]

No, no no. Let me tell you the truth.

What happened was that when Jesse Ventura won the governorship of Minnesota as a Libertarian and Harper’s described the people in Minnesota as having “elected a toy governor, and then Paul Wellstone died in a plane crash, the people at Harvard realized that Minnesota might not be sufficiently leftist/progressive, and so they dispatched Al Franken to run for governor there.

It’s not like he was from there, or anything, and it doesn’t really matter. Everyone knows that when you go to Harvard they can either fill you in on everything you need to know with a team of research assistants and professors, or study you as though you were Piltdown Man (like they did with Jesse Ventura by inviting him to be a Harvard Fellow.) Most important to the people at Harvard, the real issue, is the balance of leftist/progressive power in Minnesota, and that’s why Franken was their handpicked Senatorial candidate. And that’s why he’s going to win.

Not because he’s from Minnesota, because he’s from Harvard.

BTW if he hadn't run for Senator

No more convincing evidence then the entire New England conclave of Democrate lifers. My sense is that the Republicans must select a half-dozen target seats (Reid’s being Numero Uno), and put everything they have into recruiting a solid candidate, establishing a quality campaign staff, and them funding it to the max. Reid is beatable for all the reasons specified; more specifically, there must be a price for this brand of leadership, and that price is to be sent back home.

Don't you know that ownership is forbidden?

kowalski (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 12:33PM EST (link)

The Left is a property that Harry Reid doesn’t want to own, because it is one of those underwater properties at the bottom of a lake that he’s been trying to sell to people for years by telling them it’s a vacation home.

Harry is going to follow the Obama lead in the next six months and he’s going to tack centerwise, trying to avoid the autoimmune reaction to his own acolytes. It’s a matter of survival.

Even that’s a benefit to us, though, because Reid knows that the people who he’s counted on to rant and rave for the past six years can’t be asked to shut up easily: they’ll keep calling on him to be more and more radical, and he’ll be forced into an increasingly untenable position, a-la Joe Lieberman.

I look forward to seeing how Harry Reid tries to split the difference.

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 1:01PM EST (link)

Let the Redstaters strengthen its power. Let us help win back the Nevada Senatorial Seat.

My question: Is Mitch up for the Job? Can he really be the conservative Senator that we’re all wishing for? If he can be that lawmaker, then we should support him. If not, then I agree with David Sage that RNC should start a more decent recruitment process for the most qualified Republican candidate to topple the currently lamedum Senate Majority Leader from Nevada.

Let us throw Harry Reid out of the Washington Bus… so that he will never enjoy his corresponding share of the loot (?) from the 4-year reign of the “more of the same”, dangerous and most likely corrupt Obama/Biden administration.

After our loss in the last election, our lives as conservatives have been more meaningful than ever.

America does not need to hear from Harry Reid anymore.

Reid's vacillation

kowalski (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 2:15PM EST (link)

Reid’s vacillation on Iraq should have disgusted national-security Democrats and my guess is that it did. My guess is that now, Reid will try to talk tough about Iraq and his acolytes will fawn. It’s on his shoulders now.

He won’t defund the war, and he won’t lead the charge to have Obama remove the troops this time. All of the past year has been a phantasm. The Senate also won’t do anything about the Administration’s decisions in regard to foreign detainees, and my prediction is that all of the things the President did during this Administration, including the Patriot Act, will be settled law at the end of the next two years.

All of this, from the very beginning in terms of American politics, has been about who is going to be able to take the credit for freeing Iraq. The Democrats aren’t going to miss the opportunity — it is what they have wanted from the beginning, just not while a Republican was in charge and did the heavy lifting.

Also in regard to the Patriot Act

kowalski (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 2:37PM EST (link)

The Democrats aren’t going to rescind it or change any of its major provisions because they know it has been effective. They’ve known that, in fact from the beginning. They’re not going to change any of that drastically because they know, just as the Republicans did, that America has been better served by the Patriot Act than anything else.

Dennis Kucinich will keep arguing for its repeal, of course, but the Donks keep Dennis around mostly for his hot-looking wife and for comic relief.

We have no candidate to oppose Reid

I think Lt Gov Brian Kroliki was going to be the guy. But the dems have gotten him indicted for some alleged transgressions when he was the state treasurer.

Sue Lowden, who I think is the state GOP chair might be a possibility. She has some name recognition, and not too many negatives.

We should be beating up the RNC and John Ensign (I have written the senator about Dingy Harry on numerous occassions) to find a competetive candidate to oppose Reid.

  • Harry Reid should be beatable.
  • We’ve known it for at least two years.
  • There is nobody to run against him.
  • Mike Duncan says recruitment is a priority.
  • Where the hell has Duncan been for the last two years.

Looks like we had two to run but they are now disabled

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 4:46PM EST (link)

no fault of Duncan’s. We have two years to find more candidates. If no good one’s exist, as Vegas Rick implies (I think that is probably an overstatement) then no RNC chair can produce one. RNC chairs are terrible at preventing indictments being issued by grand juries.

Reid is up in two years. We can use our time finding recruits and funding them or name-calling and gnashing teeth about things beyond our control.

I prefer the former. Will you join the like minded?

Btw, I have no idea where Saltsman stands on Sanford. SC politics don’t turn on what men of salt think, but if it interests you, let google be your friend. Google is non-discriminating and I don’t want my blog to be link friendly to name calling blogs!

And, I’d be willing to bet, nobody here knows much of anything about Saltsman. You’re in a position to know something about the guy and contribute, but I guess not.

As far as Duncan is concerned, HE is the one who talked about how important recruitment is. I’d like to know specifically what he’s done on a subject that HE says is important (an on that I agree with him). And, for a statewide contest, two years is nothing. Even in Arizona, which only has two major markets (Phoenix and Tucson), two years won’t buy a marginally known (NOTE: not marginal, just marginally known) candidate the kind of name recognition to take on a well known statewide candidate like McCain or Napolitano.

I’m not just interested in what Duncan’s done in NV, but specifically what kind of recruitment and visibility programs he’s done and where. This particular diary about NV just presented the opportunity to front the question about a specific state.
