When Did Mrs. Schlossberg Become Ms. Kennedy and Why Is She Qualified?

Wikipedia tells us that Caroline Kennedy actually never changed her name to Schlossberg after she got married. That has not stopped the media from referring to Her Majesty as Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg until now.

Now, the media, in its never ending quest to rebuild Camelot, is in full Kennedy mode. Obama is, I’m sure, a bit upset the spotlight is off him.

The American public has, for a year, been treated to a media narrative that experience counts for everything. Sarah Palin was unqualified to preside as President of the United States Senate because she did not have experience — never mind that she is Governor of the largest state. She was not qualified to cast tie breaking votes in the Senate. That is, after all, the Vice President’s job.

But today is a new day. Caroline Kennedy (Schlossberg) is qualified to be a United States Senator because . . . . .

Because why really? Because of her last name? Kennedy equals experience? No. Not hardly. What exactly has Caroline Kennedy done to make herself qualified?

She has not started any businesses. She . . . ohhhh . . . she’s the honorary chairman of the American Ballet Theatre and raises private money for public causes.

Gotcha. Oh, and she’s a writer and editor. That makes her a very serious person, unlike Sarah Palin who, as just a lowly governor with no royal blood, is unserious.

Were the media allowed to pick a monarchy for America, it’d be the Kennedys. And the media would tell the rest of us it’s what America wants. But real America wants people who have actually done something with their lives to be in positions of prominence. Rising above a silver spoon background to a silver dinner plate does not qualify. Except maybe in New York.

Erick, you have to ask?

52% of the country just elected a guy whose biggest qualification was that he was a celebrity. And you have to wonder why these same zombie voters go ga-ga over a similarly situated celebrity?

Ironic?

It is truly amazing the old media’s obsession with JFK and their perpetuation of the myth that JFK was a liberal. How! JFK was a veteran and was an anti-communist. He cut the Capital Gains tax and encouraged econimic growth. While he was President, he proposed no new gov’t programs or spending. Liberal? I doubt it.

In any event, the old media and the Dem-libs now have a Princess to elect. A person with absolutely no qualifications, never held public office or had a real job. Yet the “Party of the People” continues toi push its aristocracy on the nation. The Dem Gov and other prominent NY Dems who are dissenting from the coronation are being ruthlessly silenced.

If Caroline Kennedy is selected Senator, her opponent should run against her by quoting her father’s public statements on taxes and anti-communism. We all know that the old media will never challenge her but will promote her candidacy. Her opponent must raise large sums of money and advertise extensively. Rep. Peter King, are you listening?

She's from a better cut of cloth, don't you know.

Quoth Wikipedia: “She received her A.B. from Radcliffe College at Harvard University in 1979 and her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1988, after attending the Brearley School and Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan, and Concord Academy in Massachusetts.”

None of that lowly, Wasilla High public school crapola. We need to be led by more bluebloods and Ivy Leaguers.

Well she's just as qualified as the person she's replacing was.

Well, that's a little unfair to Sen. Clinton.

Hillary was able to win the seat twice, which says something. Even if it’s “I can use my last name to actually win elections:” something that Caroline has yet to prove…

New York's liberal policies

fisk2521 Thursday, December 18th at 12:49PM EST (link)

i know that the Governor of New York (the sequel to Spitzer) has the legal right to appoint a new Senator and I know that it is something that happens in many states. I continue to wonder why the voters don’t demand that the law is changed to require a special election. We don’t need 2 years of campaigning like Obama had for this last election. We as New York voters do need, however, the right to chose our Senator.

The very last thing New York State needs is another liberal making decisions about our future. The economy here in upstate has NEVER recovered – - Hillary promised of course, but never delivered. Carolina won’t deliver either – - she will continue to support the City of New York and ignore the rest of us. Governor Paterson has just announced his answer to the economic disaster in New York State is more taxes (except for the “Indian” tribes which will then be free to donate to campaigns without oversight or lmitations).

The population is diminishing in this state – - retirees can’t afford the property taxes here (ours is rated at $47 per $1000. It’s just a matter of time until Obama allows for a reservation in our midst, which will open tax free businesses and destroy the competitition of the taxpayers…putting most out of business. However, schools, fire protection, road care and participation in the polticial process will be encouraged for the reservation; giving them the same rights as everyone, and absolutely no obligations.

Caroline will do NOTHING to help this state, which has needed help for 20 years. Her arrogance in demanding the Senate seat is outrageous; but she will no doubt succeed. She speaks about working for the New York City school system, but ask her where her children went to school.

She's qualified

The only qualifications for the Senate, as far as I can tell, are that you can raise massive amounts of money or are rich enough to write yourself a check. In the case of IL you would also need to leave a briefcase full of cash under a park bench, of course.

If/when she becomes senator

I should get might rightful position as CEO of JP Morgan. My middle name is Morgan so I think that should be the only qualification.

If only real life mimicked politics.

Caroline can vote yea or nea. She's qualified.

Being a senator is not a tough job. Yes, experience running a business, etc increases the odds that someone would be a conservative and vote correctly, but it doesn’t ensure same.

For an executive job, yes, these other factors would matter more, and I certainly agree with you on how ridiculous was the trashing of Palin.

I guess she used the same trick that turned Mrs. Clinton into Mrs. Rodham Clinton around January 1993 when the Presidential run was over.

Or that turned Mrs. Heinz into Mrs. Heinz Kerry in early 2004 for the Presidential run.

Or that turned Mrs. Rodham Clinton back into Mrs. Clinton in 2000 for her Senate run.

New York ain't Georgia

quill00 Thursday, December 18th at 3:02PM EST (link)

I believe Hillary spent $36 million in her 2006 re-election bid. That was as a heavily favored incumbent in a heavily Democratic state. How many other people have the star power to raise that kind of money in the next two years?

By contrast, I think I read the latest Senate race in Georgia, including the runoff, cost $18 million — for both candidates combined. My numbers might be off, but this is certain: A New York senate run requires boatloads of cash.

As for Kennedy’s name, she has written all but maybe one old book under Caroline Kennedy. If that’s her legal name, that’s her legal name.

She has been a player behind the scenes in New York politics for decades, primarily focused on education. And she is highly respected for her work. She wrote books, on topics including privacy rights and patriotism, and raised a family (which counted for something when we were talking Sarah Palin).

The bigger question seems to be, why does the choice really bother you? New York is going to pick a liberal Democrat in any event. If Caroline Kennedy is unqualified, and thererfore proves ineffective, doesn’t that help your cause? Why would you want New York to field a super-qualifed, super-effective liberal? I can only surmise that you are afraid of the Democratic party having one more potential superstar. And I think you are wise to be afraid.

Hi, quill00. You were told to correct your trash behavior...

You failed to do so.

Let's create the Duchy of New York, and then Caroline can sit in the House of Lords

I bet even the reddest Red Stater would be willing amend the constitution for this!
