The outfit in charge of "enforcing" this nonsense is the ostensibly "non-profit" organization, Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful. They are governed by a 50 member Citizen’s Advisory Board. These citizens represent the public interest and are appointed annually by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners. Their annual operating budget is $2,356,218. Funding sources are county government (26.6%), private/individual contributions (18.2%), and recycling revenue (55.2%). Annually, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful returns more than $17 in community benefits for each $1.00 invested by government. I suspect the "fine" will go to them as well.

From a county that makes the FIRST offense of a barking dog punishable by up to 3 YEARS in jail and a $1000 fine. The Soviet Socialist Republic of Gwinnett is true to form.

Ok, now this is just ridiculous. this would be ridiculous even for an illuminati liberal county. A fine that high for something that is supposed to voluntary, something that is more of a social choice, not a clearly and widely accepted one. We're not all eco-conscious people who would rather sacrifice our afternoons sorting through paper bags, plastic bottles, and cans, than do... well anything.

I know the text of the ordinance specifically states that failure to recycle isn't a crime but at the same time the ordinance does allow for those who fail to recycle to be

punished by a civil monetary penalty not to exceed $500.00 per violation. Each full daya violation continues may constitute a separate violation

So in effect it is treated like a crime regardless of whether it is actually called one.

This is further implied by the fact that you have to go to civil court to appeal any violations that you consider unjustified. As the text here shows

Appeals shall be made as if by conviction in Gwinnet County Recorder's Court

So it's not a crime but it is treated like a crime other than it not going on a criminal record for the violator.

Walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...but you say it's a pig...nah...I think it's a DUCK, and it could prove to be a fairly expensive one at that.

Awesome work. BTW, you aren't banned, but I sure wish you'd give it up.

I tire of people playing the victim card around here. If you feel the need to respond further in here, I might press the blam button.

You people are starting to sound and replicate those at Dailykos. Do you have any background in Gerogia County Ordinances, or any background in anything at all related to ordinances?

Did you actually read the ordinance and the pertitinent section both of which I posted? Did you bother?

Instead of jumping to conclusions on an AJC story (which is what that liberal paper wants you do do and is succeeding in making you dance like puppets), please tell me, please discuss that section of the ordinance. There is nothing there. NOTHING. The ordinance as a whole sux as it removes free enterprise and the capitalist market down to government selected entities.. tht's what should get people up in arms... not dancing to the Atlanta Journal 'Constipations' tune of picking out a non existant issue to frighten people to lazy to check things out or think.

Erick, please put a stop to this now you have the info.. retract your message or debate it porperly. There's not alot of conservative places to go... Bad info needs to be challenged wherever it exists.

your haughty act, then you object when you get it back; kinda like what the lefties do. It's not like I haven't had my arguments with some of the people you're sparring with, but when you have a superior attitude and are insulting yourself, don't bitch when you get it back.

I really don't have a dog in this, since I don't think I've ever exchanged either postive or negative words with you, but you've been using up RedState's bandwidth with this "mine's bigger than yours" act for a day or two now - and with women, mostly! Get over yourself, this ain't Kos.

your haughty act, then you object when you get it back; kinda like what the lefties do. It’s not like I haven’t had my arguments with some of the people you’re sparring with, but when you have a superior attitude and are insulting yourself, don’t bitch when you get it back.

I really don’t have a dog in this, since I don’t think I’ve ever exchanged either postive or negative words with you, but you’ve been using up RedState’s bandwidth with this “mine’s bigger than yours” act for a day or two now – and with women, mostly! Get over yourself, this ain’t Kos.

A site I enjoyed has become filled with Daily Kos fanatics. Sigh

A site designed to help Republican party is besieged now.

I don't see why we can't have meaningful conversation without throwing verbal attacks around? I can take the jabs I have thicker skin then that and was taught to never back down from a fight.

I look forward to helping Republicans get back in power.

Are they going to have people inspect the trash to make sure there are no recyclables? If they don't do it as they pick it up, how will they identify the violator? How can they be sure who in a household did it?

Violations are going to be awfully hard to prove.
