From Newt;
"We are at the end of the George W. Bush era. We are at the end of the Reagan era. We’re at a point in time when we’re about to start redefining — as a number of people started talking about, starting to redefine — the nature of the Republican Party, in response to what the country needs."

Just because I didn't want to hear this, doesn't make it not so. I'm going to have to go and shoot a liberal obamo supporter in the foot just to relieve the pain.

A native of Cincinnati who still lives just north of there, I have followed Ken Blackwell's career since his days on Cincinnati City Council in the 70's.

Blackwell would have been a terrific govenor of Ohio, and he would make a terrific RNC Chairman. This man is a true conservative of the Reagan type.

Let's hope he gets it.

Diversity is a process, that should occur in a somewhat natural fashion of "like-minded," but from a varied backgrounds/environments, coming together. Diversity is not a Mathematical formula, puzzle, or calculated mystical location/destination.... It is not to be feared, but nor is it to be embraced if only for the sake of some Politically Correct notion!

Diversity through some Affirmative Action process does not eliminate Racism, it only breeds it.

I want to clarify something I said further up this thread.... Color and/or Gender does not "buy anything," I said. Sure, there are some that it means everything to still, we saw some of that in this last election. However, I mean to say that it DOES have some value, but only if it is an aside - it cannot be the "sole" (or main focus) value of the candidate/person in question or it becomes nothing but distraction.

MSlsd was out attacking Sarah Palin again this morning. The "willie" moron on "Morning Joe" in response to reporting a "Thank You ad" an organization put on the airwaves to Thank Sarah for providing Leadership/values to believe in said (paraphrasing): There are alot of people that will follow this woman over a cliff. We've already had the mindless 'cult of personality' candidate, and it was Barack Obama. Don't expect us to allow you empty-heads to pull us over the cliff you intend to let him attempt to drag us over.

Sorry if you were insulted. I realize he is running for governor. I do not believe that he is someone to imitate. But he did raise a lot of money for the Clintons. That was the context I was coming from. We need a money man or women. I also mentioned Penny Pritzer from Obama's campaign. By the way I think McConnell can win in Virginia, but he is going to need a lot of money.

he is not a "me too" candidate, saying he is insults the man for no reason. However, I agree with Erick that we need the best conservative we can get, if Blackwell or someone else is that man, then we should go with him.

so where/why did the blacks get into the Dems? MLK's niece is a member of the Black Republican National Assoc. Why does this all fly by everyone. Are there any blacks here that could explain that?

I want to be colorblind about this, & I shall. I've supported Steele because of what I've been able to see & learn regarding his principles. Whether he, Blackwell, or whomever gets RNC chair, that person will be well advised to surroung himself with those who are strong in areas in which he is weak, regardless of skin color. That man or woman must be an unafraid, unapologetic, bold color conservative.

I asked the question if anyone else heard what I thought I heard. Apparently what Newt said was "The Era of Reagan is dead." Rush responded to his statement, here is the link-

http://michaelinmi.wordpress.com/2008/01/15/rush-limbaugh-to-newt-gingrich-the-era-of-reagan-is-not-over/

Coupled with the fact that he has bought into Global Warming, Newt is not within the realm of conservatism in my opinion.

But what of the argument that the racist charge would be off the table or at least diminished if an African-American were RNC chair.

Did appointing Powell and Rice deflect the racism argument or was bush accused of cynicism and pandering while Powell and Rice were call "House NXXXXrs" by the looney lefties...so what's your point?

I realize that you are making the principled point, that our ideas should be carried by someone with talent, regardless of the skin color of that person.

But inevitably there could be, when the GOP opposes Obama's agenda, the charge of racism.

See above

One might argue that an African-American RNC chair would be able to criticize Obama's agenda without being accused of racism.

One could argue so...but it wouldn't make it so!

One, do you agree that this would be an advantage?

NO!

Two, is this advantage significant enough to persuade you that it should be a consideration?

No again but that is obvious since this question presupposes that you answered yes on the first question which is not the case.

Or do we lose more than we gain when we make such cynical concepts such as "he'll be immune to the racist charge" a consideration?

Yes!

any more questions?
