“I Want to Get Involved”

Back up top by request. — Erick.

I’ve been inundated with emails from people across the country who say they want to get involved. They are asking how to become a part of army of activists that the right will need to reorganize and re-engage against the left.

In lieu of individual responses, I thought I’d write a post here at RedState that I can refer these people to. Here now are my thoughts on getting involved:

Stay Informed

Studies show that people who read blogs are generally the opinion leaders among their colleagues, neighbors, friends, and family. Just by staying on top of the news, you can help persuade others to the cause.

Read RedState. Read other sites. But be careful: there are some cranks and charlatans out there. Do not spend your time wasting away on whether or not Obama is an American citizen. Instead, spend your time focusing on how he governs, which will either be so extremely poll tested as to be meaningless or as a third world kleptocrat, which is the way he ran his campaign.

The American people remain deeply suspicious of this guy. We don’t need to waste our time on this birth certificate to show him for what he is — a lefty radical.

Engage in the conversation

Start commenting on stuff at RedState. Once you’ve started reading and observing, engage. Talk with other readers via the comments. Start writing quality diaries — no short throw away, but good diaries expressing your thoughts, concerns, information on candidates and races in your area, etc.

As much as I encouraged you in point one to stay informed, point two goes to this central third point:

Keep us informed

If you want to get back Congress and you want to take out the Democrats, you have to pay attention in your state and community. Who are the bad guys back home? Who are the good guys? What absurd policies are the Democrats pushing in your state? Who are the up and comers that look promising? Who are the guys we need to sick the armies of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy on? Post diaries here and let us know. Tag them to your state so we can start building up the politic narrative in your state. Above all else, help get candidates and policies back home on the national radar.

Likewise, at home, be prepared to write letters to the editor in your local paper, call in to the local talk shows, etc. Share your perspective and knowledge.

Be Willing to Help

A lot of Republicans cannot be online at RedState all day. Yeah, yeah, I know it is hard to believe. But some people have jobs with bosses who frown on them being on RedState all day.

If you are one of those people this is for you. Get on our action items list. You may not be able to be on the site all day, but when the army of the right needs to rally for a cause, we’ll send you an email with the details. All you have to do is carry out the instructions in the email if you have time, delete it if you don’t have time, and forward it on to your friends who might help.

Volunteer with a campaign

Honestly, and I say this as both a member of the Republican Party and as an elected Republican official: if you are going to devote your time to the party or a candidate, choose a candidate. Your time is better spent getting one good man elected, than delving into the egos of party politics. Scout out good people to run for Congress. If you are living in a state house or senate district with a good legislator, go work for them. If you are living in a swing district, find someone your gut tells you is electable and go work to get them elected or keep them in office if they are already there.

Also, consider getting involved in a state organization: a local chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a statewide pro-life organization, a local Club for Growth affiliate, etc. There is real power in numbers, so sign up with other local groups.

Network with your fellow RedStaters

We have a lot of people here in the same states. Have you ever thought about getting some of them together for a drink, a burger, or just a conversation? Why not? Take your online activities off line. Make new friends. Organize in your states.

Bring new people in from the cold

This is, in fact, a war we are in. And every war needs new volunteers. Like bringing people to church, it is not always easy, but the army must grow. Encourage your friends to get involved here. Get them plugged in with the candidates and groups you choose. There are others out there who haven’t discovered RedState and are still asking “how can I get involved.” Now you know how to get involved. Get your friends involved.

Just as importantly, consider getting your friends on the Action Items list. The more people we have taking part, the more powerful our combined voice becomes.

Excellent, as usual, Erick.

I would like to add, use your voice. Use it to letters to the editors, magazines, on radio, on blogs, with any group that you can, including those who have differing opinions. The MSM is not our friend and we must have alternative means of getting the word out.

We have a womens group, disenchanted with the Republican party but strong conservatives. Our group, The 7 O’Clock Fight Club is growing with new members bringing in others and with the election, I expect to see a spike in the numbers.

Start preparing now, start organizing now and start talking now.

To me, “consensus” seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects … There are still people in my party who believe in “consensus” politics. I regard them as Quislings, as traitors … I mean it. — Margaret Thatcher

Sounds great, Erick, but...

The underlying problem is still there. We don’t have a message except: conservatism. Part of the reason it keeps getting beat down is because people don’t understand that, for the most part, they’re conservative, too.

I’d like to bring in diversity to the conservative movement but the face of it is still white. Yes, I know how the left tries to destroy conservative minorities but this is where we lack courage. Michael Steele and Ken Blackwell weren’t in the forefront until the very end when it really wouldn’t make enough of a difference. We have to have courage to show people, give our conservative minorities bigger voices in the movement so they can show people what the potential for greatness there is in being conservative.

Oreo cookies, uncle tom smears, and the like aside, if we don’t put ourselves forward unashamedly with courage, nothing we attempt will succeed.

Before anything else, re-education on what conservatism is needs to begin. Too many people have forgotten. It can be done but it’s going to take courage to withstand the hate and vitriole from the left.

I think one reason for that is that we constantly push socially conservative gimmicks rather then push the overall message of conservatism.

Ask the typical person on the street and they will tell you the Republican party stands for 4 things:

  1. War
  2. Opposition to gay marriage
  3. Opposition to abortion
  4. Teaching intelligent design/creationism.

Now i don’t mean to get into a debate about those issues, but the reason people feel that way is because its what we run on.

And that is because we certainly can’t run on the GOP record of fiscal discipline, smaller government or ethics reform.

Before we reeducate the people on conservatism, I suggest we start with our representatives in congress.

Steph C (Diary) Monday, November 10th at 9:53AM EST (link)

I believe this needs to start as a bottom up strategy that results in “we the people” demanding such from our government leaders. Starting with Congress will do nothing but continue the ‘cold civil war.’

The liberal message is: we know best for you.

The conservative message should be: you know best for you. We need to stand for Constitutional individual liberty and help people realize they have the potential for success under a conservative government rather than the nanny socialist one they chose.

Then, we can choose our leaders by who stands for us rather than the lesser of two evils. I’m tired of choosing between lessers. It’s time to stand and fight for excellence.

Tonight Sarah Palin will be on Greta Van Susteren’s show.

Get involved by watching the interview and make Greta’s ratings skyrocket like BHO’s plans for our energy costs.

Greta did herself proud this election season and was very fair to Sarah and helped to give Sarah a voice.

Give her your support, watch the interview, and let’s make some ratings news!

Newt Gingrich

Scope (Diary) Monday, November 10th at 10:11AM EST (link)

Newt has said that he would be willing to be the leader of the RNC, providing the R’s don’t decide that they want to shift to the center. Newt is a great speaker, has proven conservative ideas and plans, and has powerful name recognition. I think he would be a very vocal and successful RNC chair. The new RNC chair will be selected right after innauguration. Newt can get the base excited. He was very effective to get support for the drill here drill now petition, to bad Pelosi had no intention of drilling for diddly squat.

I don’t even remember who the current RNC chair is, seems like he hid in the closet thru this whole election cycle.

What do you guys think?

I'm all for Newt!

Manifesto..

Kudzu (Diary) Monday, November 10th at 10:37AM EST (link)

I mentioned it a few times before but we, the right, need a document that establishes what we believe in as a movement. If we don’t have a baseline then we don’t know where we come from. Yes its great to say “Reagan” and “conservative” but as Brandon pointed out people equate that to “Republican” and that equals this “neo-conservative” view. I’ll be the first to say I don’t know what a neo-conservative is but obviously its not a good thing.

So I propose a Red State Manifesto, a Facebook group, and I like the idea of state chapters. That can localize this to a degree where those of us can actually work on smaller than Congress issues and state ballot initiatives. Just some options and even though I’m a new member I don’t think this is without merit.

  1. A manifesto, or something along those lines, can also be a petition to the Guerrilla Congress and Senate.

  2. Facebook? MySpace? Or your own personal off-RedState Blog. I’ve started taking diaries that I write here and add them to my own blog on Blogspot. The more networked we are and viral we’re able to be the broader the message can be and we’re able to affect the landscape. We know a lot can happen in two years (2010 Congressionals) and the Internet is the means to achieve that change. It isn’t expensive and it isn’t something that requires a lot of leg work, but it does require some brain power. A few minutes/hours out of our days that we can spend can equate to one or two people reading. As we say in psychological warfare, if we can get one, we got a win.

Also I would propose a “RedState affiliated” blog. An off-site blog that RS recognizes as being affiliated because of message, professionalism, content, and relevancy. This lets people link RedState to their blog and adds to exposure.

  1. State chapters? Maybe just regional? Just another way to focus some internal work on state issues and races. But I do love the alerts I see when things come up, such as the Norm Coleman race even though I’m a Georgia voter. But I just don’t know what I can do other than donating money, which is kind of hard to do from my stand point. So a phone call is the next option but again… time constraining at times. So a state or regional chapter could have a list of newspapers, TV stations, or other media that we can call and write to on behalf of the issue at hand.

Just some ideas at getting involved. I think RedState has the perfect avenue to achieve that because of the diaries that you allow on the blog overall. No other site does that and the wit and insight.

Ok I’ve exercised my brain.

I heard you on Glenn Beck last week. Thank you for voicing your support of Operation Leper to the millions of Beck’s listeners.

I am very heartned to know that you have had such a big call for becoming active with the Republican party. Obama won the election because of his massive ground support. I heard he had a network of 1.3 million workers. The Republicans, particularly the Conservatives need to gain as many volunteers as ACORN has, albeit honest workers and volunteers. The RNC needs to take a leadership position, drive the Conservative narritive and mainly start collecting money for future campaigns. We cannot allow another Liberal Candidate on any level the ability to buy elections.

I’m sure that most don’t want to even think about campaigns right now. I am exhausted from the non-stop political news everywhere, but it will take alot of time to build the ground support we will need as early as 2010.

TxCon (Diary) Monday, November 10th at 11:55AM EST (link)

WE MUST ALL WORK TOGETHER TO DEFEAT THIS!!! Peter Kirsanow had an entry in “The Corner” on NRO about working to stop the “Fairness Doctrine” immediately. I could not agree with him more and I felt the need to mention it on Red State as well. In my opinion this is one of the most damaging pieces of legislation that an Obama Presidency could sign into law. Aside from the obvious violations of the First Amendment, this law could allow any piece of legislation to flow through Congress and the public would be none the wiser. With the GOP being the minority party in both chambers, the real power behind stopping the oncoming socialist agenda is talk radio and the conservative blogs. This is the media that the liberals want to silence because they know the major networks will do their bidding, no questions asked. Talk radio and blogs like Red State were responsible for stopping the 2007 Amnesty Bill. The same energy and effort that was put into stopping that bill needs to be doubled in regards to stopping the “Fairness” Doctrine from becoming law. I have already contacted my two GOP Senators as well as my Representative, who is a somewhat moderate Democrat. I urge you to do the same. If the FD becomes law, there is no stopping the liberal agenda from destroying this country.

Letter to the Republican Party

SheetAnchor Monday, November 10th at 6:45PM EST (link)

In the aftermath of the 2008 Presidential Election, through which Senator Obama was elected President, there is some discussion surrounding whether the Republican Party must become increasingly liberal in its ideology and political platform, in order to maintain compatibility with the electorate, and thereby position itself to achieve victory in future national elections.

In consideration of this strategic question, it must be observed that there are three pillars inherent in the Republican Party and its traditional voters; to wit: fiscal conservatives; national security conservatives; and religious conservatives, often referred to as social conservatives and/or values voters. Shifting the Republican platform essentially means transitioning away from morally upright positions on issues including abortion, embryonic stem cell research, homosexual marriage, and other pro-family issues of principal concern to religious conservatives.

As a Christian, and in political vernacular, often referred to by political commentators as an Evangelical, it is imperative that the Republican Party understand political support from a Christian perspective. First, it must be observed that Christians are those who have been born again through faith, that is, belief in and reliance upon Jesus Christ, the Son of God, for salvation in accordance with the Biblical commandment to believe in His name. Secondly, Christians are followers of Jesus Christ; and in this respect there is no higher priority than obeying His commandments. In this respect, it must be realized that Christians view all matters in life, including family, culture, and political matters from a Biblical perspective. The Scripture is the only prism employed to guide and direct attitudes among Christians; and there is no option to compromise on Biblical precept or principle, regardless of the repercussions. Christians obey God, and leave the consequences to Him.

Christians view themselves as Christians first; and secondly, as Americans; who love God, and country, in this respective order. Christians are not wedded to any political party, but rather abide by the timeless principles of God, as conveyed in the Bible, and strive to correctly apply these principles in all aspects of daily living, including in political affairs. It is Biblical precept and principle which guide political views and positions on issues. Please understand that this is not a matter for debate or negotiation, but rather a representation of truth and fact in the life of a Christian. Christians will not compromise on principle, because they cannot. Doing otherwise is sin. Hence, and there is no disrespect intended in the forthcoming comment, Christians will not under any circumstances abandon their positions on abortion, marriage, and other life issues. To suggest or believe otherwise is politically naïve and erroneous. Christians will not commit personal or collective sin for the sake of political gain or expediency. Hence, should the Republican Party pursue a course of diminishing or vitiating its pro-family platform, it will effectively abandon the Christian community in America, one of the three pillars of their national constituency, and their tens of millions of votes. Additionally, it should be recognized that Christians are not myopic, and hold strong, patriotic views on other important national issues. Christians support a muscular defense and security policy; the post 9/11 pre-emptive and offensive war policy to protect the nation; fiscal responsibility and low taxes; protection of gun rights; and school choice.

From a political perspective, it is noteworthy to mention that according to polling by the Christian Coalition, only 50% of Christians are registered to vote, and only 50% of those registered voted in the national election. This is a tragedy, and an irresponsible act on the part of the Christian community. Bluntly stated, from a Biblical perspective, it is sin. Christians have responsibilities as citizens of this nation; and the failure to vote, and thereby, participate in the political process is inconsistent with the “good stewardship” Scriptural principle. Nonetheless, this circumstance presents a tremendous opportunity, for the Christian community, and the Republican Party; that being, to focus attention, resources, and effort toward registering millions of Christians to vote, and to motivate them to exercise their God-given civic duty. Republican Party leaders, and strategists, together with leaders of the Christian community, would be well-served to converge on the goal of dramatically increasing voter registration among believers. It is in the interest of Christians, who love this nation, and the Republican Party, which seeks restoration to national political leadership, to do so. Accordingly, there is no need for the Republican Party to abandon its traditional platform, or Christians, in its quest for political success.

Try to minimize the complaining along with a great sense of urgency in the situation the Republicans face. I know it’s impossible to be clean of complaining (everyone is a sinner) and I complain too, but the more complaining, the worse the readers will feel, or even try to ignore you. Let’s be more serious about trying to regain 2010 and minimize the complaining and whining whether it’s sarcasm or serious.

Anyone who ever thinks that Republican party needs to rebrand the California Governator way needs to read 1980 and 1994 history (earth to Mr. Frum). The whole theory about the vaccum that the Democrats have left moving leftward is a joke…NO MORE posts about that (btw arn’t Dems and Repubs in that so called vaccum)! It’s not “we are too conservative”, it’s that Republican leaders spend too much and are big govt. psycos (ie Rep Young, Lewis, Mica, Gilchrest, LaHood ect.). Let our voices be heard and start planning and working for principle, minimizing Obama in 2010, and getting Palin elected in 2012!

Again, enough of the Eeyore stuff. 2008 election is over, move forward.

I heart Michael Steele! The GOP needs a strong SPOKESPERSON right now, someone who can articulate vision and communicate without resembling the defensive “assumption” based style of McCain. We need someone who can expose the left’s lies with skillful dialogue, not by making funny faces!

Social conservativism is about getting the government to stay OUT of our personal lives. We can make our choices, thank you very much. As long as the government is not funding insidious anti family programs I’m good. But similarly they shouldn’t be trying to force conservative social values (whatever the heck that means) down people’s throats either. Leave social engineering up to the left. The right should let families and churches take the lead in this area.

Steele has proven he can communicate very effectively and is cool in the face of hostility. That’s the most glaring deficiency the party currently faces. A solid national voice. Give him a shot! Go Michael!

For every person actively on RedState and similar blogs their are thousands of conservative leaning voters that would do something if they got a little help.

We need coordinated attacks with daily outlines and talking points. “Today lets focus on this issue with these points, directed at Senator XYZ.” A focused coordinated effort gives the impression of a much larger, powerful movement. Do we even know how many calls/emails/letters it takes to influence a politician? I’d say very few, from 10 to 200 depending on the issue. But someone can chime in here on that.

The left is organized. That ‘other’ site during the campaigns kept up a rolling list of all online polls so people could click on them and vote favorably for Obama. It didn’t win the election but sure could have skewed the polls and eventually pick up votes from people who want to be on the winning team. Obama’s success was not standing for something but rather offered many people to be on the rockstar’s team. On the winning team.

We often forget here at RedState that millions do very little research on candidates and just believe the headlines. We have to win the battle of headlines and sound bites.

Obama=Golfer in Chief, Leading from, behind, the Back Nine.
Leaders don’t create movements. Movements create leaders. Get involved. Your future depends on it.
Govt “invests” YOUR tax money for POLITICAL return rather than economic return.

Give it up.

Run for office

mom2oneson (Diary) Wednesday, November 12th at 9:52AM EST (link)

Big Gator that is not realistic for many people. It takes time and money to run for any office. It takes time in the actual position. Even leadership in private organizations take time away from one’s personal responsibilities.

the fact that Obama wasn’t vetted by the press or by his own party does not make it right or acceptable. I believe he should produce the documents he is ordered to by Dec. 1,2008. If they are in fact false then the rest of our concerns about he governs won’t matter will it.

Of course the work to stay involved and what we do in response to Obama’s policy changes by executive order should be a major concern. But to just sluff off his citizenship well now that would be unconstitutional, wouldn’t it.

We need form letters. My writing skills are too poor to send off a letter. There are brilliant articulate men and women on this site. If their anonymous internet posts at 3am are this well written I bet they could write a letter easily. For the form letters set up the files where people can fill in the blanks, print it off, and mail it to their rep.
Focused attention is a great idea. Set up 2 or 3 things that people can work on.

Lelouch (Diary) Wednesday, November 12th at 10:28AM EST (link)

We need to stop a lot of the backbiting in the Party, we disparage Republican candidates based on the perceptions at the time without no evidence. Leave that to the left.

Secondly, the same people that suggest that we abandon the largest voting block in the Republican party, the social conservatives, are the same people who cost us the last election. It is political suicide to do so.

Furthermore, we must not try and kneecap a Republican in order to further our own special interests, or candidate or whatever. I saw this in the primary against Mike Huckabee, and I was left shaking my head. It is also the same attitude as to why Sarah Palin is being thrown under the base by the establishment.

I suppose that in the Republican party, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I have yet to have anyone even bring up ‘intelligent design/creationism* as a topic so you can dispense with that strawman as an excuse to rail on the SoCons being the problem.

I posit that if every ‘fiscally conservative/socially moderate’ poster on this site spent half the time and effort they spend on blaming the SoCons for all of our problems, and spent it instead ripping into all their ‘socially moderate/fiscally conservative’ who are much more likely to be caught supporting bloated farm bills, copping earmarks, supporting a presription drug bill, they’d have a lot more credibility with me.

to call out by name all your socially moderate, fiscally conservative brothers & sisters in the GOP for their fiscally irresponsible earmarks, their support for a bloated farm bill, and their votes in favor of the prescription drug bill (there’s more but that’ll be a start). After all, those who supposedly share your views supported those items at far higher rates than did the the single-issue, rabid, anti-science SoCon cretins.

Commencing breath-holding while waiting for said post.

Conservative Principles

NorthGeorgiaGirl Wednesday, November 12th at 11:14AM EST (link)

In a nutshell:

  1. Lower Taxes
  2. Less Government
  3. Personal Responsibility
  4. Freedom and Justice for all

We have a small group of state legislators here in Georgia who actually read all of the bills before them and rate them on these principles. Sometimes they are the lone opposition to something that sounds good, because it violates one of the above core principles. I am not sure how many of them were opposed this year, but one that I do know of won his election 75-25%…because everyone believed that he meant what he said and stood up for what was right against all odds.

It’s time we held our representatives from the state to the federal to these standards, and if they don’t believe these things, find viable candidates that can run against them.

Running for office

D.T. Dickinson (Diary) Wednesday, November 12th at 11:40AM EST (link)

I have given some thought to running for a local office up here in Northern California. I typically talk myself out of it for one reason or another, but perhaps I should go for it now.

- D.T. Dickinson

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

The orphanages were for children in foster care, not as an abortion alternative. Group homes have high rates of children being beaten, neglected and raped.

Protesting the Protesters

TheAngryCapitalist Wednesday, November 12th at 12:00PM EST (link)

With a little over seventy days until Barak Obama is sworn in as 44th president the question beckons, who is organizing the opposition? Has anyone besides myself even begun to think about protesting this farce of an event. While thousands are shelling out huge sums of money in hopes of catching a glimpse of That One as he descends from the heavens and proceeds to confiscate loaves and fish from the wealthy to provide for the faithful, our movement appears to be sitting on its hands. At this point in 2004 the left was geared up with dozens of catchy slogans, pithy placards, and twenty foot tall effigies soaking in petrol awaiting the flames of a fiery protest. What are we doing? We are sniping at each other over who said what about Sara Palin and cowering in the corner licking our wounds inflicted in the last election. The time has come for action!….

"Christian" or "White Evangelical Christian"?

mwigdahl Wednesday, November 12th at 12:33PM EST (link)

Given that exit polls indicate that Protestants in general were the only religious group to (slightly) break for McCain, and that even self-identified white evangelicals had a 25% vote share for Obama, I’m not sure that your analysis of what “Christians” (I’m assuming you mean white evangelical Christians) in general prioritize in their political beliefs is very accurate.

I recall reading on RCP that most evangelical voters had listed the economy as their top priority in the election like the majority of the rest of the electorate, rather than abortion, gay marriage or stem cell research as your letter would tend to imply.

that references him on this issue I’m sure it can’t be posted here. They are correct on their outrage though IMHO. Family preservation should be what we work for.

National Coalition For Child Protection Reform

Go to issue #15 but ignore the first statement, they should have written what he actually said like quoted him. Regardless of that, the actual things he said shows he had no experience in dealing in child welfare. He tried to show life in an orphanage by referencing a movie! It amazes me that someone with so much power would not even found out what the reality is before making decisions about it. He failed a very vulnerable group in our population.

There are other good articles on there too if you can read on past that first sentence.

If I can find a set of quotes without liberal opinions mixed in I will post them.

Not saying anyone here is a liberal, but I was reminded of something Reagan said in 1964:
“Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”

Attacking Palin at this point in our party’s existance is counterproductive. If she proves herself capable of success on the national stage she will succeed. If she doesn’t, she won’t. Attacking her from within right now isn’t helpful in my mind.

Let's pick something and start!!! nt

Not an anti-science party

paint_it_red (Diary) Wednesday, November 12th at 9:57PM EST (link)

I’m no apologist for creationism, but when it comes to stem cell, the state of the science is that we have achieved great things using adult stem cells and other non-embryonic stem cells, and despite billions of dollars in spending, we have nothing to show for in embryonic stem cell. I’m not against science, but I am against embryonic stem cell research. It is the liberals who are sacrificing the cures we demonstrably are more likely to reach with adult stem cell research by diverting money to what is a political hobby-horse and wedge issue in embryonic stem cell.

Even if you could treat someone by killing another human being, would it be right? Morality and science go hand in hand. Science is a tool which advances mankind’s knowledge of the universe and its practical applications advance our welfare. But not everything we can do ought to be done just because we can do it. The same moral analysis, the same legal analysis, the same rights based analysis that we apply to anything applies in equal force to scientific research and applications.

because that’s what you’re spouting here. McCain ran on maybe one of those four this year – national defense. Is there room for education of the electorate to break that impression that the GOP is focused on one leg of the conservative stool? Yeah. But sorry – a large swath of the GOP believes in those, so they ain’t going away. Note: if there was ONE thing that wasn’t on the GOP radar screen in 2008, it was socon principles. So you can put that meme away.

There is ignorance in the electorate. Our problem is remedying that, not ejecting social conservatism.

The evangelical vote

Bill S (Diary) Wednesday, November 12th at 10:27PM EST (link)

is the single most consistent bloc of GOP voters out there. Take a look at the Pew studies on religion and politics to get some numbers on how valuable the evangelicals are to the GOP. So you’re all for telling them to pound sand? It’s been tried (implicitly) once before, and it nearly cost GWB the 2000 election. Do it now and you can guarantee the GOP candidate will not be elected, considering the shift to the left that has occurred since then.

Please, engage your brain before posting here. There are a couple of folks who will be sympathetic to your yammering, but the vast majority here are 3-leg conservatives.
