Roy Blunt is Out

Roy Blunt is out as Whip. He held a press conference earlier.

This opens the Whip job for Cantor.

A team is coming together. With Adam Putnam and Kay Granger leaving, that clears those seats. Can we fit Hensarling in to one of those spots?

So are they falling on the sword

for Boehner? Don’t get me wrong, they need to be gone, but so does the leader.

A Change is needed at the Top

After losing 2 consecutive races in the House to an opposition party that is running on absolutely no rational ideas and has likely one of the most unintelligible leaders as Speaker, it’s time for the GOP to once again have an “ideas man” as Leader in the House – and in the Senate for that matter.

I believe that Leader in the House is Paul Ryan. He’s the only candidate who has a thoughtful, conservative agenda who all could rally around, in the mold of Newt from ’92.

In the Senate, we need Jon Kyl, a true conservative, a great spokesperson and a warrior to do battle with the coming liberal storm from an Obama White House.

Conservatism did not lose on Tuesday. All that was slaughtered was liberal ideas and policies masquerading in conservative attire. The American people are waiting for conservative leaders to step forward; are we ready to lead?

What about

Paul Ryan? I’m not terribly familiar with him.

I still want Jeff Flake in a highly visible position. He IS the conservative standard bearer.

The ‘N’ word is November! Nov 6, 2012 will be the next cleansing.

Agreed.

Thank you for the good news. The man was elevated well above his level of competence.

Is Blunt retiring in 2010, or just giving up his post?

MORepublican (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 11:50AM EST (link)

I don’t live in his district, but if he does retire, this would open the seat up for Gov. Matt Blunt, Rep. Blunt’s son, to run for it in 2010.

But Senate formalism prevents Kyl from challenging McConnell and Paul Ryan wants to be the wonk, not the leader.

Who will stand on either hand and keep this bridge with me?

Marsha, Marsha, Marsh

What about Marsha Blackburn for Minority Leader? Mike Rogers, Sue Myrick and Zach Wamp would be good choices too.

Give the position to Cantor.

Republicans must plan for the future.

Boehner needs to go

Herodotus Thursday, November 6th at 12:15PM EST (link)

He can stay in Congress, but he is a failed leader. He needs to step down.

Sign Newt’s Drilling Petition. I have included a link to it in the below. Thank you.

What are Cantors' chances...

nogyro35 (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 12:26PM EST (link)

…of becoming minority leader?

Two election cycles of huge losses in the House should be enought to prove Boehner cannot do it. That’s 0 for 2. Let’s start to bring in the new leaders and remold the party.

50 seats lost in 2 consecutive elections

septembergurl (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 1:52PM EST (link)

Failure on the prt of leadership should not be rewarded. I like Boehner and think he has done a decent job, in ordinary times he should be kept in the job.

These are not ordinary times. Congress stands as the only defense from the most radical left-wing administration ever!

Similarly McConnell is perfectly fine in nrmal times. In this election he barely held his own seat! That’s not enough.

boehner and McConnell were so much better than frist and Hastert that we lose sight of the fact that they are not what we need.

As someone above mentioned, Marsha Blackburn is outstanding! She is very conservative, she voted against the bailout, it doesn’t hurt that she is personable and an excellent communicator.

Paul Ryan

Jon E. Schultz II (IlliniJon) (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 1:55PM EST (link)

I was going to ask where he fit into all of this, so thanks for that update, Erick. Does he not want to be the leader at all, or is this more just a “not yet” timing type issue?

I’m fortunate to have Paul Ryan as my rep here in SE Wis.

McConnell out, in with Conservative leaders

kllyhlls (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 2:17PM EST (link)

Don’t get me wrong. I like Mitch just fine, but I’m ready for some conservative leadership that knows how to get out the message!

Kyl, Demint, and others need to be our voices.

Just for your refreshment:

DeMint Statement on President-Elect Barack Obama

November 5, 2008 – Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement:

“Senator Obama ran an impressive campaign and regardless of what you think of his policies, his victory is historic. Our country has come a long way and it should make every American proud today.

“Despite his liberal record, Senator Obama won by embracing conservative principles including tax cuts and spending restraint. I hope he keeps his word and will work with conservatives in Congress to keep taxes low, balance the nation’s budget and promote economic growth. He has a powerful opportunity to govern effectively but he needs to show leadership and restrain the liberals in his own party.”

You can guarantee if Obama doesn’t “restrain the liberals in his own party”, Kyl or Demint will call him on it LOUD.

I believe that Marsha would make an excellent Minority Leader.

Yeah. Cantor establish himself as the great oppositor of liberalism and anti-constitutionalism in the House

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 4:10PM EST (link)

while Palin and Jindal hone themselves as the best Executives they can be.

Let them “honorably” participate in the primaries by 2012…meaning NO PERSONAL ATTACKS, just political.

I want the next presidential primaries to boe only about:

I accomplished, x no. of jobs, x dollars of investments, x no. of disaster prevention, x no. of crimes busted, etc.

Let us throw the past kind of primaries, especially the 2000 where all our present problems began. And most importantly…

No coaching from the liberal MSM.

Anyone else check the 2010 Senate midterms?

CowboyUp4419 (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 8:58PM EST (link)

The Senate 2010 math looks disasterous. We may be forced to retake the House in the next midterm or face a lot of trouble. Blunt needed to go and, after presiding over the loss of 50 seats, we may have to force Boehner out with him.

You know, I think many of us are more excited now...

nogyro35 (Diary) Friday, November 7th at 3:57AM EST (link)

…that we are able to discuss new leaders for the Republican Party, than we were about voting in the last election.

How screwed up is that?

I guess it feels nice being able to talk positively about the direction of our party for a change, (Thank you Sarah).
