It’s Easy to Vote in Wisconsin

The Democrats are passing out a flyer in Wisconsin that tells people just how easy to vote in Wisconsin.

One of the bullet points is this:

No proof of residence? You can still register to vote if you bring an eligible voter from your municipality who shows proof of residence and affirms that you live at your address.

There is just one problem. That’s not the law in Wisconsin. Having a character witness cannot get you registered to vote.

But who cares. Law, scmaw as far the Democrats are concerned.

You've got it all wrong...

The standard Yiddish counterargument is to add “schm-” to the beginning.

Therefore, “law, schmaw” is probably correct.

It appears it won’t matter in Wisconsin, but this seems to be a pattern throughout the battleground states too. I just don’t understand why liberal organizations want to cheat at elections. It just delegitimizes the outcome, no matter who actually wins.

They don’t care–certainly not in 2008. They just want to win, rules and laws be damned.

Remember,if you are conservative to vote early.
And if you are a Democrat, vote early and often.

They say Republicans are for the rich, Democrats are for the poor.
If they need more voters,
then they have to make more of who they are for.

We are there in the various Tea Party groups, leaderless, but not rudderless.

“Law, scmaw as far the Democrats are concerned.”

-Except in Virginia where they follow the law about absentee military ballots to the letter!

Can’t have those military overseas ballots counted now, can we?

…how is this going to encourage voter fraud? Are the polling stations going to accept this flyer and allow people to vote in the manner it describes?

No, they’re not. Put quite simply, this isn’t voter fraud at all. In fact, donning my tinfoil hat, this looks more like voter disenfranchisement; in WI, you can register on the day by bringing ID and proof of address. This flyer may confuse voters, causing them to turn up without these required items.

Unfortunately, the blog Erick links to has disappeared. Can we be sure that the folks passing out the flyers were Democrats?

Here’s the relevant provision of the Election Day Manual for Wisconsin Officials, page 27, http://elections.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=872

Corroborating Witness

If an Election Day registrant or a voter with an “ID required” notation is unable to
provide proof of residence, they may have another qualified elector of the
municipality corroborate his or her residence by signing the Voter Registration
Application (EB-131) as a witness. The corroborator must be a qualified elector of
the municipality and provide proof of residence. The corroborator is not required
to be a registered voter.

Are you saying that the state election officials are wrong about Wisconsin election law?

in Michigan, the MEA is telling their members to be sure to tell folks that convicted felons, on probation and parole can vote. Even though that means they are still under sentence for their crime. Michigan law prohibits a felon, under sentence for his crime, from voting. And the MEA tells their members they can wear their O shirts and buttons to the polls, but have to turn the shirt inside out or remove it, and remove the buttons and hats if asked. That would mean they wore the apparel into the polling place. Michigan law prohibits “electioneering materials” within 100′ of a polling place.
