I, like you, want my kids to live in a land of prosperity. A land where my hard work can result in the smiles that I see on your beautiful daughter’s face. Tough to take time off from politics when everything that we have been taught by our parents and grandparents and everything that this great country of ours stands for is at stake.

I am trying to smile, but hopefully on Tuesday night my grin will be ear to ear.

I have to admit to loving Halloween. This year I covered the house in spiders. I like a little scary but not too much. I have an eight foot blow up spider in the yard and six foot fuzzy spiders on the big bushes, a number of smaller spiders on smaller bushes and hanging pots and spiderwebbing everywhere.

My kids are all young adults, three in college and one on her own. Three of the four, with boyfriends and girlfriends in tow, came to the house last night to carve pumpkins and munch on yummy mummies, steak bites with bloody mary sauce and other treats. It was fun.

I am doing laundry, setting up for Halloween, paying bills, filling the refrigerator with easy meals and getting all the loose ends tied up before heading up to Wisconsin for the last five days of the election to help out.

On the way out the door this morning my husband turned to me and said, “About all the spiders… Umm…” “Yes?” “What do I do with them tomorrow?” Now, I already took down my McCain/Palin signs (why tempt teenagers or fate) and I told my husband, you take down the spiders and put the political signs back out in the yard. Duh, men…

buy a buttload of candy so there’s lots of leftovers when we only get a couple of beggars at the door…

If any “Obamas” come to my door, I’ll take a third of their candy and give it to the kids who can’t go out as much (like the younger kids).

Of course, I don’t think my wife is going to let me answer the door.

Today would be a great time for us to take a short break from this electoral garbage and enjoy a few hours with our kids.

Today’s going to be beautiful weather here in Chicago, and the kids should be out in droves. I hope they’re all safe.

On a darker note, UIC campus police found a note from some sick SOB saying he’s going to shoot a random person near campus tonight. My wife teaches there and my daughter’s a freshman, so my dog and I will be doing chaperone detail walking them to and from school. And, I’m going heavy. I hope it’s a prank and I hope the “prankster” gets his.

May your children all be safe and happy tonight. Tell ‘em to go easy on the treats, though.
