Yesterday, I blogged about Romneybots trying to smear Sarah Palin. One of the ones who has been willing to do it on record is former John Boehner spokesman and, more recently, former Mitt Romney spokesman Kevin Madden.
Now Madden was a Hill guy. And he was good. Smooth, polished, a party man.
Then he went to Mitt Romney and was mostly smooth and polished, but not quite as good.
Well, where to go now? Oh . . . the private sector.
Where did Kevin Madden go in the private sector? The Glover Park Group.
The Glover Park Group is a Democrat group. Who is there?
Carter Eskew from Gore 2000; Michael Feldman from the Clinton White House; Gigi Gorges who worked with Hillary; Joel Johnson from Team Daschle; Joe Lockhart from the Clinton White House; Jonathan Sallet from the Clinton White House; Chip Smith from Gore 2000; and Howard Wolfson most recently of the Hillary Campaign.
They are good at what they do. Now they can play both sides having Kevin on board. But how much of the Palin bashing is Kevin trying to fit in and suck up to his new masters? Maybe he’s just killing two birds with one stone: sabotage Palin to help him get back on the Romney train in 2012 if he thinks Obama is going to win and make himself palatable in an all blue Washington. Still, so much for loyalties, etc.
This doesn’t explain the other Romneybots doing the same.

yes, one more week

Erick, I asked on the other thread
Dave_in_Fla (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 7:14AM EST (link)This smells a lot like a Dem dirty trick. Get the GOP doing infighting the week before the election.

The last thing we need a week before the election
NightTwister (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 7:43AM EST (link)is to stir up all the emotion of the primary season.
Night Twister & sons will be walking door to door and making phone calls this weekend For McCain/Palin, Schaffer, Musgrave, Fries & Gallup.
There will be a joint blog from us hopefully available Sunday night.
Let’s get these folks elected, then if some still feel the need we can go rehash the knife fights from a year ago.
I posted this same comment on Remington Steele’s blog, because I agree with him. I can’t find a single reason to stir this up right now. Please let it wait a week. McCain needs every vote.

Erick, usually, I'm a fan of your work.
Nick Haynes (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 8:06AM EST (link)But this is ridiculous. We have the election in less than a week. Let’s work on getting John McCain into the White House, and then we can worry about inner-party squabbles.

Romney Derangement Syndrome?
dblagent007 (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 8:40AM EST (link)So there are a few Benedict Arnold’s that came out of the Romney campaign. Romney’s campaign isn’t the only victim of the ONE. Think Scott McClellan and Colin Powell.
Oh well, go ahead and take that broad brush and smear all the other Romney supporters that are not traitors as well as Romney himself (while he is busting his butt to get Republicans elected, I might add). Nice, real nice.
I hear you, but . . .

Not buying it, Erick.
NightTwister (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 9:30AM EST (link)Sorry, but I’ve kept quiet for a long time.
Those of us that supported candidates other than John McCain were basically told to shut up and get in line and support the Republican candidate.
I think we’ve all done an admirable job of doing just that. I for one, have been very supportive of McCain since then.
For you to now come out with this, not once, but twice and say,
doesn’t fly with me. This serves absolutely no purpose at this time except to re-inflame emotions that have been kept in check for a long time.
This sort of thing would have the same effect you’re looking for next week as it would this week, except it wouldn’t have the effect of having some people throw in the towel and just walk away.
John McCain needs every single vote next Tuesday.
This sort of thing works against that purpose, and the stated purpose of this site.

This is to everyone in this thread...
Attack Mode (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 9:57AM EST (link)I think this should be reported on this week because the subject is not really Romney, rather it is Sarah Palin. Our VP nominee is being hurt by these accusations and that effects the overall chances of the ticket winning on next Tuesday. Would we also say that we shouldn’t talk about Peggy Noonan or George Will? I think Erick was very careful to note that this is not Romney but rather some former Romney campaign staffers who got picked up by McCain and have now gone turncoat. Any emotions this stirs up should only be directed to these staffers who are now trying to destroy the ticket because they feel slighted. Anyhow that’s how I feel about it.

Here's my beef with the Romney news.
Nick Haynes (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 10:30AM EST (link)Most of us, who sat at our computers and tried to play it straight while the leadership of Redstate went in whole-hog for Fred Thompson (not that there’s anything wrong with that, because Fred is a great conservative) groaned for a month or so and then threw in with McCain. Those you hear about in the news (so far, only Kevin Madden is named, but it’s apparently a large conspiracy) are not reflective of the base of Romney’s supporters. We sucked it up because, no matter how bad McCain might be, Obama will be far worse. And we were excited about the selection of Sarah Palin! Heck, I even donated money for the first time-money I can’t really afford to donate at this point.
And now, with less than a week to go, we’ve apparently decided to not only pull out the shivs on a few know-nothings, but paint it with a broad brush on all of Romney’s supporters. I think Palin will be a great leader of the party one day, and I might support her in 2012 (worst-case scenario) even if Romney is in the mix. But, if I were inclined to believe in conspiracy theories-as Erick seems to with the broad brush “Romneybots hate Palin” statement-then I could flip it around and say that Palin’s supporters see this election going down in flames and are trying to take eliminate any competition for her in the future.
See how it can get twisted? Let’s stop this asinine inner-party squabbling. There’ll be plenty of time to do that in a week from now if we keep it up. Let’s work on getting Sarah a new address at the Naval Observatory in Washington, DC. Then, if we fail, we can start fighting over 2012.
If you’re not networking, you’re not helping.
Well Nick....I think there is a delineation you missed...
Attack Mode (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 10:45AM EST (link)And that delineation is RomneyBot. I believe Erick was referring to those Romney supporters who kept up in a blind support of Romney even after he lost the Primary. I highly doubt that Erick means all who ever supported Romney. I commend you for rallying your support to McCain, I had to come to grips with Fred losing and I rallied to McCain as well. I hope you see the difference. And like I said in my earlier post, if it had been Peggy Noonan or George Will no one would have a problem agreeing with Erick’s sentiment. As well Erick did say he doesn’t believe Romney, himself, was or is involved. Do you see what I mean?

Erick is being fair
Illinicon (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 11:26AM EST (link)The fact that their seems to be a coup attempt on our Presidential ticket needs to be reported. He has also stated he doubts Romney has anything to do with it. If Romney wants to get the nomination in 2012, he knows he needs to make himself more acceptable to the base. Trying to tarnish the base’s rockstar is not a good way to that.
My Potus shortlist
declared candidates:
1. Tim Pawlenty
2. Herman Cain
3. Gary Johnson
4. Rick Santorum
among declared and rumored candidates:
1. Rick Perry
2. Tim Pawlenty
3. Rudy Giuilani
4. Herman Cain
This is still ridiculous
robbyshankar (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 11:47AM EST (link)Like I said on the other blog yesterday, this is stupid. The fact that Madden is working with the clover park group just goes to show this is more than likely a democrat attempt at disrupting the GOP right before the election. Also, I am still waiting on the other names of actual Romney staffers who are trying to take Palin out of the picture. Like I said yesterday, the American Spectator article that started this had no references. There are two real issues here. The first is that democrats are trying to cause problems right before the election, and the other is that people like Erik aren’t as sure about their GOP superstar as they want to be, and so they try to make other people look worse so she looks better. The stupid thing is that Palin does just fine on her own. I don’t even know why I am posting on this blog, this whole issue is just a distraction from the task at hand. Go McCain!
Erick's comment
Micheal Wednesday, October 29th at 11:55AM EST (link)I would like to have Erick’s comment as to how he thinks this helps McCain’s campaign. Is this to shame the Romneybots into supporting McCain? I think it has more of a negative effect of making former Romney supporters defensive. Not a good thing.
Despite being a former ardent Romney supporter, I am greatly pleased with McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin. She has proven to be the best possible candidate McCain could have chosen. Her political instincts are incredible. I am now firmly in her camp and if she decides to run for president I will be supporting her rather than Romney. Sorry Mitt, I liked your positive attitude and your positions, but in the end, you couldn’t get the deal done. Palin is truly a natural born unconflicted politician and she would be a better standard bearer of conservative principles.
And by the way, if there are any lingering doubts, the Book of Mormon is true.
I understand that.
Nick Haynes (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 12:14PM EST (link)My frustration is that, with less than a week to go, now we’ve had 117 comments on Erick’s earlier post, and 17 (now 18) on this one, all talking about something that does not get John McCain into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. If anything, it makes it more likely that Barry O will be the new resident on January 20th. And, if you look at the comments, about 5 or 10 of them are supportive of Romney and dismissive of the rumors of Romney being behind it. The rest of them are suspicious of Romney at best and hateful of Romney (and in some cases, his religion) at worst-which is kind of like watching an episode of The Twilight Zone since I’d say Rudy is the only opponent McCain had in the primary who has worked as hard as Romney to get McCain elected. Fred’s been doing some decent work, but hasn’t been out there all that much. And the rest of them have proven that they could care less about the Republicans keeping the White House.
Furthermore, it’s taking a large contingent of the party and angering them. The only name I saw in all of this is Kevin Madden. Kevin Madden, as far as I’m concerned, doesn’t matter one whit in the scheme of Republican politics. Oh, sure, he has the “Republican” label attached to him, but so does David Brooks, and look how much he matters. To take a joke from Gilbert Gottfried, I googled Kevin Madden and it came back “Why?”
During the primaries, I was attacked, on this site, for supposedly being a Romneybot. It’s a word with negative connotations, and it doesn’t differentiate between supporters and sycophants. Normally, I wouldn’t give one fig about the usage of verbage, but we have 6 days to go. Let’s buckle up and give it all to the campaign. We can fight afterwards.
If you’re not networking, you’re not helping.
