Britt on the LA Times Story

The reporter will not release the tape.

No doubt the reporter thinks you awful simpletons out there will think ill of Obama for cavorting with terrorists and terrorist sympathizers and people who compare Israel to Osama Bin Laden and the Devil.

I'm sure if they had something on McCain like this, they'd hold it back too.

PSDA (Diary) Tuesday, October 28th at 8:46PM EST (link)

This is madness.

Spinning information is one thing, but actually WITHHOLDING it and refusing to let the public make independent judgments about it is another.

They haven’t even bothered to offer any spin on why they’re withholding it. They just are. It’s truly unbelievable.

Breaking

McCain steered hundreds of thousands of dollars to Khalidi via a Republican foundation he sat on.

Maybe FOX should use the democrat playbook

here and let’s investigate the background of the withholding reporter and flush out his personal life for all to see. It works for CNN, PMSNBC & the rest of the Obama media on Palin & Joe. Why not use it on these so called journalist? All’s fair in politics and war. LOL!

The media has distorted and spiked so much I'm not shocked.

If there is any positive aspect of this election, it is that the left-wing Establishment media isn’t believed by the great unwashed any longer. Even Obama voters will be skeptical of what they see and read in the left-wing press from now on.

Yeah like that National Guard Bush word

DaBoogieMan Tuesday, October 28th at 9:05PM EST (link)

document Dan Rather forged that HAD to be his lead in on the 6 o’clock “breaking campaign news.” That still cracks me up!

I hope all the MSM Obama lovers go down in flames on Nov 4th when McCain and Palin give the acceptance speeches.

If Media Did Its Jobs

dld1717 (Diary) Tuesday, October 28th at 9:07PM EST (link)

If the media did its job it would report on this and force LA Times to release it but does anyone think CNN, NBC, CBS, or ABC will cover this at all? Will NYTimes even mention it?

No so I doubt most readers will even hear about it and its hearsay at this point.

If only media did its job sigh

LOL

from huffingtonpost :

During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars.

A 1998 tax filing for the McCain-led group shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi’s Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank. (See grant number 5180, “West Bank: CPRS” on page 14 of this PDF.)

The relationship extends back as far as 1993, when John McCain joined IRI as chairman in January. Foreign Affairs noted in September of that year that IRI had helped fund several extensive studies in Palestine run by Khalidi’s group, including over 30 public opinion polls and a study of “sociopolitical attitudes.

so much fun

Ok, let us see the Khalidi tape

DaBoogieMan Tuesday, October 28th at 9:09PM EST (link)

and the so called fund documents or is the Obama campaign still running spell check on MS Word before the LA Times get’s in in print.

Keep on calling the LATIMES folks

Anteater (Diary) Tuesday, October 28th at 9:21PM EST (link)

Perhaps some of the other local newspapers can do stories about this video suppression .

So I suggest people contact the Orange County Register too. Orange County is the most Republican county in California, and the OC Register is a direct competitor to the LA Times.

It's all good guys the fact that it is on politico and everywhere NOW

Not advocating

wiseprince (Diary) Tuesday, October 28th at 10:04PM EST (link)

But if he sent me or someone else an email he would be traceable via ip. In theory (again I am advocating nothing) one would be able to locate him computer and do some investigating as to where said file may be on his local hard drive. One might event be able to access any other machines that were holding the information hostage. I am not advocating anything but in theory, if someone thought they would be saving their country from harm they could accomplish that. Modern technology is great but with great power comes great responsibility. I guess it wouldn’t be right to do that (unless of course your country was in grave dangerous.) Is it? I don’t know…

So what?

PSDA (Diary) Tuesday, October 28th at 10:32PM EST (link)

Everybody knows that Republicans, Democrats, and the US government for that matter have steered money to Palestinian groups. Arafat himself, a known terrorist, was given millions.

So if they exist, lets see videos of John McCain talking about how much he’s enjoyed having dinner with these folks in their homes. Lets seem him sit there with a big smile as an anti-Jewish poem is read, with Ayers in the audience, and then raise his glass in a toast to the host of the event.

If McCain granted money to Palestinians for things which had nothing to do directly with anti-semitism, then lets have it out. Let’s see the video of Obama, compare it with McCain’s record of being involved with a group that gave a grant, and let the chips fall where they may.

But that’s not what this about, is it?

Unfortunately, outside of their Libertarian editorials, the OC Register...

CSUFBomb (Diary) Tuesday, October 28th at 10:33PM EST (link)

…doesn’t print anything the AP doesn’t write for them, except for local “lost cat” and “found dog” stories.

It’s not all bad if the LA Times keeps the tape suppressed as long as we’re able to keep voters wondering what the LA Times is so desperate to keep concealed.

LA Times Response

dld1717 (Diary) Tuesday, October 28th at 11:07PM EST (link)

“The Los Angeles Times did not publish the videotape because it was provided to us by a confidential source who did so on the condition that we not release it,” said the newspaper’s editor, Russ Stanton. “The Times keeps its promises to sources.”

WTF? Serious, this is about as much bull as one can take. If the Times received a tape warning of a disaster and was asked to not release it would they keep their word as they promise?

How many Republicans read the LA Times?

SeriousLaff (Diary) Tuesday, October 28th at 11:13PM EST (link)

I don’t know how many Republicans read the LA Times, but when I lived there, everyone got it for the local news and art sections. At least 30% of the readers must be Republicans.

If just one third of them would call the LA Times and tell them if the tape isn’t released by Thursday, their subscription will be cancelled on Friday. A 10% decrease in circulation in 1 day? The would have to shut down by the weekend.

You're kidding right?

johnCV (Diary) Tuesday, October 28th at 11:17PM EST (link)

This is the smoking gun?

During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars.

You’re saying that a group Mccain was chairman of, hired a research center co-founded by a Columbia professor of ME studies to learn about the situation in the ME is an equivalent relationship to what obama and khalidi had? Babysitting thier kids? Praising him at an anti-Israeli dinner? BEING FRIENDS FOR 20 YEARS???

You link to some weak crap from puffington host like this is definitive proof of your allegations. The point is that the LAT is sitting on direct evidence that obama has very a questionable network of freinds, many of whom would like to see the US brought down.
If you’ve got something to refute that, bring it on.

Who would send Tape and ask it not be made Public?

This is why you guys are losing

brimur42 Wednesday, October 29th at 12:34AM EST (link)

Ya’ll are making the same mistake we Dems made in 2004. Wandering from one mini-scandal allegation to another. Remember the tin-foil hat theories about Bush’s Texas Air National Guard days? Lot of good that did Kerry in 2004.

You guys have tried a million different arguments to imply that Obama is dangerous. People aren’t buying it. Try running on the issues. I know from experience it will give you a better shot than this crap.

Just logging in to make a hit and run post is fruitless. Stories like this are a great way to pick you suckers out though.

Anyone that will dismiss this kind of stuff or make an excuse for it are obviously in the tank for Barry.

I do think that it’s funny that the same crowd that is upset that Sarah Palin didn’t open up her personal e-mails are cool that a “news” organization is actively supressing information.

Look at yourself! Have you looked at yourself?!?

You're correct...in part

civil truth (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 1:13AM EST (link)

You’re right that throwing out isolated “scandals” in the hope of finding one that sticks enough to turn the tide is largely a losing proposition.

On the other hand, finding behaviors that you can weave a pattern – that works if the narrative is compelling enough.

Over the course of the campaign, various data have surface regarding Obama’s ties with various individuals key to Islamic extremist groups.

However, in part because of the scattering of these data over the course of the campaign, the McCain team has had great difficulty in establishing a compelling pattern/narrative to the public.

The people here at RedState see the pattern because they’ve been attentive to it, but much of the public hsa not tuned in until recently and thus don’t have enough to go on to see a pattern – in which case McCain comes across as scattered.

In a week we’ll know.

The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis

Email exchange with Tribune Exec

Fallon (Diary) Wednesday, October 29th at 8:49AM EST (link)

I sent a number of emails to various LA Times addresses. I received a quick note from the Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations at the Tribune Company, parent company of the LA Times.

First response from him was that he was forwarding my email to a reader’s rep who is addressing these issues.

I replied asking him for his opinion of the situation and help in intervening with the LA Times Editorial Board. He replied, “I am not aware of the tape or the circumstances surrounding it, so it would be inappropriate for me to comment about how the Times is addressing this situation.”

I copied parts of the original article and bolded the part about the LA Times having the tape. He sent back, “I have seen and read the story. My point is that I don’t know the considitons (unless this is some lawyerly term I am guessing considerations or conditions?) under which the video was obtained and what if anything was agreed to with the source providing it. It is therefore inappropriate for me to comment on the current issues surrounding the tape or requests that it be released.”

That seems to be the company line. They are going to stonewall using protection of the source as a way to silence requests.

On a related note, in a Conde Nast Portfolio interview, Pelosi is promising, “Stay tuned. As soon as we have a new congress and a new president, we will have a new shield law.” From her Oct. 16, 2007 remarks:

“However, the essential work of the press has been severely hampered by the lack of a consistent federal standard or a federally-recognized privilege concerning the disclosure of confidential sources by journalists…

“Nearly all states have some form of a press shield protecting the confidentiality of journalists’ sources. However, that protection is lacking at the federal level and in federal courts.

“It is for this reason that I have long supported a federal press shield law, without which freedom of the press is threatened…”

I really hope another copy of this tape exists. As a primary source, if this tape is destroyed so is the physical record of this event.
