I’ll try to put a bunch of these in the queue, assuming I can get it to work.

Have at it.

Election update

Whacker77 Tuesday, October 21st at 1:08PM EST (link)

Erick or any other insider, what’s the best guess on where we really stand in the election? Are the state polling numbers continuing to move towards McCain and other Republican candidates? Or has the momentum of last week leveled off? Are we ever going to hear about Wright?

New Sarah Stump - Biden's Comments

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 1:15PM EST (link)

Sarah Palin in Reno today, via the campaign:

Two weeks from today, Americans will be asked to cast their vote for the next president of the United States. There’s no time to wait. Let’s get right to it.

Did you hear what Senator Biden said at a fundraiser on Sunday? He guaranteed that if Barack Obama is elected, we’ll face an international crisis within the first six months of their

administration. He told Democrat donors to mark his words – that there were “at least four or five scenarios” that would place our country at risk in an Obama administration. Thanks for the warning, Joe!

He didn’t specify what all those four or five scenarios will be, but for clues, let’s review the Obama foreign policy agenda.

Our opponent wants to sit down with the world’s worst dictators. With no preconditions, he proposes to meet with a regime in Teheran that vows to “wipe Israel off the map.” Let’s call that crisis scenario number one.

Senator Obama has also advocated sending our U.S. military into Pakistan without the approval of the Pakistani government. Invading the sovereign territory of a troubled partner in the war against terrorism. We’ll call that scenario number two.

He opposed the surge strategy that has finally brought victory in Iraq within sight. He’s voted to cut off funding for our troops, leaving our young men and women at grave risk. He wants to pull out, leaving some 25 million Iraqis at the mercy of Iranian-supported Shiite extremists and al Qaeda in Iraq. By his own admission, this could mean our troops would have to go back to Iraq. Crisis scenario number three.

After the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama’s reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence – the kind of response that would only encourage Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine next. That would be crisis scenario number four.

But I guess the looming crisis that most worries the Obama campaign right now is Joe Biden’s next speaking engagement. Let’s call that crisis scenario number five.

The real problem is that these warnings from Joe Biden are similar to his earlier assessment of Barack Obama. It wasn’t so long ago that he said Barack Obama wasn’t up to the job, and that, quote, “the presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.”

The same Joe Biden said he would be honored to run on the ticket with John McCain because, quote, “the country would be better off.” And here we have some common ground. I want a president who spent 22 years in uniform defending our country. I want a president who isn’t afraid to use the word “victory” when he talks about the wars we are fighting. I want a president who’s ready on Day One. I want a president with the experience and the judgment and the wisdom to meet the next international crisis – or better yet to avoid it. I want John McCain as our commander-in-chief.

Wright and the Polling Trends

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 1:26PM EST (link)

from McCain. There is a good 527 that has a Wright/Ayers ad that is in some battleground states.

Personally, I think the race is very tight. I think Obama got a day or two boost from Powell that will fade. ALso, its a historical fact tha Republicans poll poorly on Weekends. Monday numbers are neve accurate. Still, the was no shift this week. Check the numbers Wednesday.

Battleground Obama +1 McCain

My best guess (as a non insider)

Dave_in_Fla (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 1:43PM EST (link)

McCain is sitting at about a 2% lead nationally, and holding all the Bush states. But he needs to keep that solid and not have a slip back to Obama like what happened with the economic crisis.

The evidence of this for me is:

Rick Davis told a conference call yesterday that they feel good about winning Iowa. Iowa is the hardest Bush state to win for them, I think.

There are stories about internal polling showing leads in PA, VA, etc.

No one is calling Ohio for Obama right now, they keep focusing on VA. Ohio is still the key state IMO.

McCain/Palin continue campaigning in PA, so they think they have a shot of winning it. If McCain takes PA, the election is over, because he will also take Ohio and Florida. What happens in VA, Iowa and CO is irrelevant then.

Now the caveat for all of this is turnout. If Obama can actually turnout hoards of new voters, then the internal polling will be crap and the external polls we see now will look pretty close to reality. Alternatively, if we sit home on Election Day, then we will lose badly.

Dave I pretty much agree with you

I think McCain will win Ohio and Florida. Virginia has me a little worried, but Colorado has me a LOT worried. I don’t think it’s over, but I would like to see some movement there. I think McCain may be going all in on Pennsylvania. Like you said if he wins it, game over. I like his chances, we’ll find out soon.

It's a great day to be alive and be in TN

1SGinTN (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 2:42PM EST (link)

…to paraphrase Charlie Daniels.

I played hooky from work today to do a few chores and a little blogging (too much, my wife says). I drove to town, top down, jamming gears & jamming Stevie Ray Vaughn (yeah, Tax Man is on that CD). Just got back from early voting. The line was out the door, but no worries, good old-fashioned efficiency and dedicated volunteers got me in and out within 10 minutes. A varied clientele in line with me, although very few under the age of 35 I’d say. In other words, didn’t appear to be new or first-time voters (but who can tell by looking, anyway).

Regardless of the nay-sayers, trolls, crypto-Marxist polls, pseudo-Socialist pundits, and the majority of the media – I feel good about the outcome. Confident even. And I thank many of you at redstate for lifting my spirits with your posts & comments. Most importantly, I thank you for providing links and info that I would not otherwise have found.

Good on ya & God bless

Obama's Socialist Past

SeeBS (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 3:22PM EST (link)

This has probably been posted already, but it needs to be pushed through.

From “New Ground”, published by the Democratic Socialists of America, covering Obama’s run for congress against Bobby Rush in 2000:

Barak Obama is serving only his second term in the Illinois State Senate so he might be fairly charged with ambition, but the same might have be said of Bobby Rush when he ran against Congressman Charles Hayes. Obama also has put in time at the grass roots, working for five years as a community organizer in Harlem and in Chicago. *When Obama participated in a 1996 UofC YDS Townhall Meeting on Economic Insecurity, much of what he had to say was well within the mainstream of European social democracy. *
(emphasis mine)

http://tinyurl.com/4e7gws

YDS stands for Young Democratic Socialists.

So, a socialist organization says that he spoke at their Townhall Meeting on Economic Insecurity, and that what he said was well within the mainstream of European Social Democracy.

This isn’t a partisan attack.

It is a fact.

Even though it was 12 years ago, (when he was 35 years old), he has some explaining to do. Obama is/was either a proponent of socialism, or has/had no limits to whom he will pander.

My guess is both.

How can we be two weeks from an election and still not have this case wrapped up and tied with a bow?
