A Human Events Exclusive: McCain Promises No Compromise on Supreme Court, Will Visit ANWR

ABOARD “Straight Talk Air” (between New York and Miami) — Sen. John McCain would “absolutely” not compromise on Supreme Court nominations if elected and would continue to nominate strict constructionist judges if any of his Supreme Court nominations were defeated by a hostile Senate. McCain said that and much more to HUMAN EVENTS chief political correspondent John Gizzi in an exclusive interview Friday morning.

Great interview for McCain

Any Conservative that reads it will get excited about McCain, while they are things that help with the indie vote. I am glad he wont get bullied into sending up Harriet Miersesque SCOTUS candidates.

My Potus shortlist

declared candidates:

1. Tim Pawlenty
2. Herman Cain
3. Gary Johnson
4. Rick Santorum

among declared and rumored candidates:

1. Rick Perry
2. Tim Pawlenty
3. Rudy Giuilani
4. Herman Cain

he predicted that McCain would eventually turn on ANWR after successfully predicting that Congress would let the moratorium expire.

Excellent strategy for closing the gap.

Strategy is simple. Rally your base like Gore did in 2000 to close a similar gap, and pray that one break goes your way (e.g., something even more outrageous confirms what we all here already know about Obama, or the focus shifts to foreign policy).

I’ve reviewed polling from the presidential elections since 1988–in all of them , the party behind made up at least two points in the last few weeks. Dukakis gained 2 points, Bush gained about 5 (and actually even more–he was just a point behind until Walsh conveniently indicted Bush’s friends on the Friday before the election), Dole gained at least 7, Gore gained about 6, and Kerry about 2.

This time, one good break, and those two points can turn into five. If not, Obama will win, but only in the low single digits.

Barack Obama: The most inexperienced, far-left candidate the Democratic Party has ever dared to nominate to be our President.

you should be praying that Obama wins...

otherwise, there will be no room for people like you in a country where competition for fewer top paying jobs is going to accelerate at a rate unseen in the past due to our weak economic fundamentals. Until we reshape (meaning change directions fast and furiously) our economy, all our lives will be endangered, yours and mine included. We need someone who has a good understanding of what needs to be done to move in the right direction..and that’s not “stone-age ideas McCain and “out of touch with the rest of the world Palin”.

Burger Court

whoframedrudy (Diary) Saturday, October 18th at 9:20PM EST (link)

Maybe it’s me, but McCain keeps missing the beat on the Supreme Court. When Barbara Walters says ‘strict construction is just code for getting rid of Roe’, McCain should say: ‘No, Barbara. Warren Burger, chief of the conservative ‘Burger Court’, was a notorious strict constructionist. Burger voted for Roe v. Wade. Snap!”

Oh, and Earl Warren of the ‘liberal’ Warren Court — he was a Republican. Snap!

Here’s all I remember about the Burger Court: (1) Roe v. Wade. (2) Moratorium on the arbitrary death penalty. (3) Protected free press in Pentagon Papers. (4) Upheld the constitution in U.S. vs. Nixon (Watergate). (5) Protected religious freedom, recognizing heavyweight champ Muhammad Ali’s exemption from the Viet Nam draft on religious grounds.

As a Bill of Rights loving, left-leaning independent (former Dem), why should I lose sleep over that record? That sounds pretty god damn beautiful to me.

Fact is, we’ve been under a conservative court for 40 years. There hasn’t been a Democrat Chief Justice in modern history. So just when exactly is the sky going to fall?

You’re gonna need more than one lesson. And you’re gonna get more than one lesson.
