John Lewis is a Race Baiter

Let’s just call John Lewis (D-GA) what he is: a race baiter.

It is not deniable. It is not controversial. John Lewis, who made history standing up for civil rights, has become a parody of his former self. It is somewhat understandable. He struggled for civil rights in the sixties. He saw friends gun downed by white police officers and was himself targeted.

But John Lewis has never put aside the legitimate hate he developed in the sixties. All struggles now are as bad as struggles then for John Lewis. He uses his celebrity to drive the hyperbole of race baiting.

The left may not like me saying it, but it is the truth.

In 2006, John Lewis cooperated with a radio ad for John Eaves, the present Chairman of the Fulton County Commission in Georgia. The ad played on black radio stations. In it, Lewis said this:

On Nov. 7, we face the most dangerous situation we ever have. You think fighting off dogs and water hoses in the ’60s was bad. [Now we] sit idly by, and let the right-wing Republicans take control of the Fulton County County Commission.

This was followed with Atlanta’s current mayor Shirley Franklin claiming the efforts of Martin Luther King, Jr. might be undone and of former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young saying they couldn’t afford to turn the clock back.

Lewis, though, got the last word, saying:

Your very life may depend on it.

The message is clear: Vote Republican and you go back to slavery.

John Lewis is a race baiter. The man who routinely sows seeds of hatred in the black community against the white community is really in no position to accuse John McCain of anything.

John Lewis is not alone...

Every elected black official has played the race card and been active in race baiting at one time or another.

John Lewis = Nat Turner

Augustus Sunday, October 12th at 7:41AM EST (link)

Congressman John Lewis is nothing more than a modern day Nat Turner.

More than a race baiter he himself is the racists he saw in the 60's....

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Sunday, October 12th at 7:47AM EST (link)

they use the 60′s and lets be clear the whites they came across were the devil to be sure BUT than they themselves have become the racist’s they decried…..their hate and anger has grown and flowered in their psyche and have turned them into their own tormenters and if they don’t let it go than those racist/bitter/violent whites in the 60′s WON!

Andrew Young should be ashamed

Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Sunday, October 12th at 8:24AM EST (link)

That Andrew has fallen victim to these hapless, groundless race baiters is a sign of just how far Dr. King’s vision has been corrupted.

If second hand stories and Young’s own words are to be believed, Andrew was always the “conservative” voice in King’s inner circle deliberations. How is passing baseless judgments and making divisive political proclamations now part Dr. King’s quest for equality? Rhetorically, it is not and this posture cheapens Dr. King’s entire philosophical outlook making it a campaign commercial or electoral strategy- sad and truly shameful.

This tactic of Democrat’s is akin to a modern day lynching of all Republican’s vis-à-vis specious, mendacious and despicable sophism. It is grotesquely injurious to our entire nation and race relations in general. Such tactics do indeed “turn back the clock” as they permit old prejudices and divisive presumptions to reenter the dialogue as a prevailing, accepted assumptions. Nothing, and I mean nothing, could be further from the truth.

“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson

If we object to being called racists, that will resonate...

in places like PA and OH, where it’s not uncommon for African-American politicians to throw that word around carelessly, in an attempt to stifle criticism of their policies.

I know my in-laws, from the Northeast, are tired of worrying about being labled racially-insensitive any time they disagree with someone of color. They’re tired of walking on eggshells.

This will make our base and many independents very mad. And mad people vote.

John Lewis experienced the exhilaration of involvement in a noble cause

with a great man at an important crossroad in history. The pinnacle of Lewis’ life occurred in his 20s and he has spent the next 40 years searching in vain for the elusive high of his heyday by using his unique talent of projecting his paranoia of a racial back story on everything.

As a Georgian, I have witnessed Lewis’ uncovering of the racial bogeyman within everything from air pollution to inclimate weather. Sadly, his comment of the McCain campaign is but just one more mirage visible only through Lewis’ eyes.

a race-baiter & a liar

John Lewis’s Absolute Moral Authority card should have been revoked a long time ago.

I dimly recall that John McCain paid Rep. Lewis a large compliment at that Saddleback Forum when he was asked for the names of some of the people who had influenced him. He mentioned John Lewis and his struggles in the Civil Rights movement as having inspired him. I’m guessing that sentiment is now gone.

This is a tough one...

liberalrepublican (Diary) Sunday, October 12th at 9:38AM EST (link)

On one hand, the man is a hero.

Literally, putting his life on the line for the betterment of the country.

He experienced, over and over again, the worst parts of racism.

For that, you want to give him a pass just like you would give a holocaust survivor a pass when it comes to being hyper sensitive to antisemitism.

However, he is flat out wrong here.

Does he have a point? Perhaps. Perhaps not.

But without a doubt, he is grossly exaggerating and over reaching here.

He deserves rebuke, but not an over the top one.

“Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. … including extensive freedom of thought and speech, limitations on the power of governments, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market or mixed economy”

This reflects negatively on John McCain's judgement

Shaggy_Dog (Diary) Sunday, October 12th at 9:41AM EST (link)

Here’s a little tidbit that you may recall from Saddleback

The Arizona senator’s focus was also evident in Warren’s first question about which three people each candidate would rely on most during his administration.

McCain named Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top commander in Iraq; John Lewis, the Democratic congressman and civil rights leader; and his economic advisor, Meg Whitman, the ex-CEO of eBay. That allowed him to remind the audience of three campaign themes: his foreign policy credentials, serving a cause greater than one’s self-interest and his pledge to use the advice of people like Whitman to turn the economy around.

I threw up a little bit in my mouth when I first heard it, and now McCain looks all the bigger fool for having said it in the first place.

Stepping on it....

izoneguy (Diary) Sunday, October 12th at 9:46AM EST (link)

…it’s like when you step into dog crap….
it’s smelly for a few seconds but with
a good hosing and scrapping it’s gone….

Now going forward….
McCain can make a list and check it twice,
to find out who has been naughty or nice,

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

heated statement from the House floor in response to a bill that would have increased money for school lunches, albeit at a decreased rate of increase from the year before.

It was disgraceful.

FTR: I consider Lewis to be an authentic American hero from the Civil Rights movement, but he has a bad habit of outrageous and shameful statements and their is NO EXCUSE. He is a grown man. I have met him and he is a pleasant fellow, but these statements are dangerous.

Ironically, Lewis and Young's city, Atlanta,

Achance (Diary) Sunday, October 12th at 11:00AM EST (link)

was perhaps the least racist city in the Lower South, save perhaps polyglot New Orleans. Even today it is considered by many to be the Black Mecca and has a large and thriving Black middle and upper class, and by upper class I don’t just mean athletes and entertainers.

As early as the early Fifties it styled itself “The City Too Busy to Hate.” More to the point it went on a campaign to attract Northern industry and corporate offices and even headquarters. The General Motors, Ford, and Lockheed plants there among many others had little truck with the Southern race and class systems. A semi-literate white man looked just like a semi-literate black man on their applications and “what does your daddy do,” “where did you go to school,” and “what does your daddy do” weren’t a part of the application. The lament in Atlanta as late as the early Seventies when I last lived there was, “the trouble with Atlanta is that Georgia is outside it,” a lament shared by both its black and white citizens.

we honor MLK's "character"plea, while the other side harps on skin-color

JLenardDetroit (Diary) Sunday, October 12th at 12:29PM EST (link)

Shamefully, this type of rhetoric is normal in Detroit area elections. We hear over and over about, and the MSM plays out the, “racist code-words” that ‘supposedly’ exist amongst the white-folk and continually pass on the open Racist remarks of the Left. Playing the Race card is always a predictable first reaction of the Democrats to avoid issues and questioning of their candidates.

We honor MLK’s desire and discuss issues of BOH’s “character,” or lack thereof, while he/Dem’s (name and not like people on money comments repeated, and the like by Obambam himself, and out-right racism by his surrogates) continue to Race bait. Again, nothing new around here, just the same old politics of Chicago and Detroit taken on a National scale. Tested, tried, and true, they’ve promoted it to the ultimate test in the race for the most important office. PATHETIC!!!

The people and organizations someone associates, SAYS MUCH ABOUT THEIR CHARACTER… The fact that he (BOH) continues to shade truth (and out-right lie) about his affiliations with these folks (you can see the video’s with BOH in his own words playing up his ‘relationships’ with these Leftists while now trying to distance), demonstrates his Character and speaks to how he would lead.

Let’s put it this way… There is a reason why GOOD PARENTS don’t want their kids hanging around with low-life scum, they don’t want the bad influence around them for fear of being pulled into unsavory thoughts/actions themselves, and BOH has associated with unsavory types his whole ‘Political Life’ and has clearly become just another Leftist-hoodlum. THAT IS A LEGITIMATE ISSUE, if you think it is not, remember that the next time your child wants to PAL AROUND with (it is NOT just Ayers in question and at issue) the neighborhood low-lifes (hypocrite).

Personally, it doesn’t matter to me. I can dismiss any/all of the ‘associations’ because BOH’s policy promises he put forth during the Primaries (raising taxes, out of controlled more spending, foreign policy [attack our allies and w/o pre-condition with the worst-of-the-worst world leaders], etc…), when he was showing his true colors, are exactly the opposite of what this country can handle/needs now or anytime. He even still, during some campaign questions, shows what his policy philosophy will be – especially the ‘with the economy bad, what will you cut back’ questions which he refuses to say he’ll scale back any of his spending, his (jobs killing) tax increases, and/or his bait-and-switch repackaging of Bush’s tax cuts to re-pass some just to call them his own, etc….

Comparing McCain to Wallace is despicable

jonreagan (Diary) Sunday, October 12th at 1:19PM EST (link)

Leaving all politics aside for a minute, John McCain is an authentic American hero, who has sacrificed much for our country. For Lewis to compare him to a rabid segregationist is despicable. It only says to me that all those knocks to his head years ago must have had some corrosive effect on Lewis’ ability to think and reason.

On March 21, 2005 Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) took to the House floor against the Contract with America and paraphrased a famous statement used against the Nazis during World War II:

Congressman John Lewis, D-Ga., said that the bill would “put one million more children into poverty.” He declared, “They’re [The Republicans] coming for the children. They’re coming for the poor. They’re coming for the sick, the elderly, and the disabled.” (173), (174)

While I don’t agree with any assertion that McCain or Palin are even in the same category as Wallace, I do think that Lewis has somewhat of a point. I think the tenor of a lot of the rallies has gotten a little out of control. As an Obama guy, I get the complaint about Ayers and Obama. I understand the argument that it shows awful judgment associating with him. Those are valid criticisms, I don’t agree, but it is valid. The problem is at many of these rallies, the idiots are missing the argument, and believe McCain is saying that Obama himself is a terrorist.

I like reading his blog because there are many thoughtful conservatives on here, and I like learning new things from people I disagree with. The problem is you are being drowned out right now by the morons in your party (don’t get me wrong, the Dems have morons too), the idiots who scream out terrorist at the mention of Obama, the guy who brings a stuffed monkey to a rally and call him little Hussain. I think complaints that if you don’t like Obama, you are a racist are idiotic, as there are legit policy differences between the two. But the idiots in your party aren’t helping conservatives seem like reasonable people. I think McCain’s lines of attack are giving fodder for those who aren’t smart enough to understand McCain’s own argument iw that Obama has bad judgment, not that Obama wants to blow crap up himself. That’s my issue.

If you ever browse the liberal blogs you will develop a strong appreciation

for the painstaking effort on this forum in maintaining meaningful discourse; in pointing out error, even when the opposing viewpoint is strengthened in the process.

One would hope that racial discussion has now reached a point that it should be possible to bring up basic philosophical differences without having the childish equivalent of “he looked at me” whined like siblings in the back seat of car.

The PC practice of being ever-vigilant of the most microscopic perception of “racism” (a term that has been redefined as any level of disagreement with one of a different race)has grown tiresome and has done itself the disservice of clouding the discussion of real issues.
