If you want to score this like a high school or college debate, she will lose decisively; she’s simply not a debater by that definition. She is a masterful politician who can find a way to pull voters’ strings. If that’s the person who shows up, her victory will show in the polls over the next few days and weeks. That’s the only opinion that counts. As to the pundits, the D-leaning ones will say Biden won no matter what, the R-leaning ones will say Palin won no matter what. The problematic ones are the R-leaning ones who want to be thought of a cool and enlightened; they’ll trash her for their DC and NY friends – wouldn’t want to be standing alone at a Georgetown cocktail party, would you?

Anyway, the only opinion that will matter is how the real people who watch it react to her. She’s never won anything, including elections, in the eyes of the pundits and glitterati.

I’m off to a less than reputable bar that the Capital City Republicans have engaged so that we can get together and watch the “debate.” What makes that interesting is that very few of us supported her until she became the nominee and most of us don’t much like the way she’s governed the State and especially her pro capital move position. It is hard to like somebody who wants to give your town a death sentence. All that said, we will support her. We will put up our signs and sign our checks. The alternative is unfathomable.
