I would additionally add that one who has a boatload of money riding on Obama winning the election cannot ever be unbiased…..money rules!

When in doubt, play the race card. She wasn’t subtle about it at all. She could have pointed to ideology as the accurate reason for the criticism.

But she didn’t.

I see this as a fairness issue.She should bow out and hand the moderating off to Lehrer.If she moderates no doubt there will be all sorts of “gotcha” questions for Palin while Biden gets a total pass.

But she should definitely state that she has the book and whatnot beforehand.

I’m sure someone else can step up and do her job there anyway, so dropping out works. But we all know that is not going to happen.

You could make the case that a biased MSM moderator who also a racially-blinded Obamabot is the IDEAL person for maximizing Palin’s returns during this debate.

Ifill has the potential to put on full display a great many things that are major liabilities for Obama with middle Amerida.

I’ll also say that if Palin can’t thrust and parry with the likes of Ifill, then she shouldn’t be there. I think she’ll do fine.

Debate Commission needs to be de-credentialed. What is it, anyway?

The Presidential debates exist for the sole purpose of helping out the democratic nominee. There is no other purpose. Because the Dem nominees are usually extreme left-wingers, and their positions are repellent and idiotic, the debates exist to make them palatable to the American voter. They have the additional function of weakening the republican.

Whatever happens in any debate, the Democrat is always the winner. That will be the case tomorrow, no matter what actually happens.

These debates are really the last frantic attempt by the MSM to retain some credibility in political contests. But why oh why do Republicans enable them? The next Presidential contest should feature actual debates with people like Rick Warren running them. He did a far better job in showing what the two candidates are really like than any number of MSM shills. Republicans need to stop playing along.

I love Sen McCain, but when he says Ifill is a professional, what is he talking about? She’s (a) highly partisan, as her book and her omments at the RNC show (b) not very bright (c) very unprofessional.

I have to say though, that I think it will be better to have her as moderator when she is on the defensive and has to explain herself. It could be entertaining if Sarah takes it to her.

If the McCain-Palin campaign is too domesticated to make an issue of Ifill’s financial conflict of interest, no amount of valid complaints from the rest of us will make any difference. McCain couldn’t even bring himself to make some snarky comment about it? Doesn’t he have any clue how to run a campaign without the media on his side?

I won’t give up until the election is over, but the main lesson for next season is don’t nominate somebody that’s not a competent politician. Being a skilled politician is by itself nowhere close to sufficient for nominating someone as our Presidential candidate, but it is an absolute necessity (except for those who enjoy the feeling of indignation during the Democrat’s presidency).

Give me a break, Gwen.

Sarah is a pit bull with lipstick. Even if the MSM tries to stack the deck against her, she’ll tear that old boy network Biden a new one.

It’s not fair the damned libs are cheating like this, but she’s whip-smart. I doubt there’s any question they can ask her that a god fearing americans won’t see as a liberal trap.

I fail to see why anyone should have a problem with Gwen Ifill as moderator of the VP debate. She is an African American woman who wrote a book about African American politicians and that book has the name of the most prominant African American politician of all time in the title.

Seriously?

This woman is one of the most respected names in American journalism.

If she was smart enough and non-partisan enough to moderate the Dick Cheney/John Edwards debate four years ago, then she’s good enough now. If you don’t believe me that she was fair as a moderator four years ago, then just read the transcript here.

She was fair handed to both, but maybe a little snippy with Cheney on time.

Playing the “Gwen Ifill’s a racist card” just makes you look bad and desperate. Again: If Dick Cheney could handle being moderated by her, then she is good enough for Sarah Palin.

Somebody needs to take a deep breath. Seriously people, get a damn grip. Let Sarah be Sarah and all will be well.

P.S. Saying that Ifill is in the tank for Obama because she’s black and wrote a book about black politicians makes about as much sense as saying that she’s in the tank for Sarah Palin because she’s a woman.

Whether it was a pro-Obama book or a pro-Palin book, for that matter, the point is that she will benefit materially from one outcome of the presidential elections more than the other potential outcome.

Basic business ethics would dictate that one should disclose even potential for perceived conflict of interest. Seriously! If she were planning to sell t-shirts with one candidate’s name on them, and not the other’s…that’s where we arrive at the conflict of interest.

We have conflict of interest at the title of the book. Bias can only be established by assessing the content…which she alleges has not yet been written.

This is a very different issue from all those that she raised in her statement today. She responded to allegations of bias, and we have discussed that topic here, at length.

One day after beginning to mull this over, and I realize that the lack of neutrality bothers me, but the personal gain that she stands to reap from an Obama victory is the real issue.

And it has nothing to do with race.

And I’m pretty offended that she implies that I am a racist for having simple ethics-based concerns. Don’t all races share a basic, human sense of right and wrong?

It’s not a Fairness Doctrine issue to me.
And it is definitely not a Civil Rights issue. It is an issue of moral capitalism, pure and simple.

Once again,McCain is being too soft. He has not taken advantage of ‘any’ opportunity he’s been given since he surprised Obama with Palin. This was a tailor made opportunity to put on display how far the MSM is in the tank for Obama, and how distorted the information they are receiving from them is.

Instead, he said “No problem” and let it drop. Foolish. Even if he KNOWS Palin will win convincingly tomorrow, he should STILL take advantage of the opening on the off-chance it may change the ground some of the MSM operates on for the rest of the election.

HH: Have you followed the attacks on you, say, via Drudge or the blogs? Some of them are just made up and out of left field, others are just mocking. Do you follow those?

SP: No, I sure don’t, and thank God I don’t have time to follow those. You know, I think that those shots, too, though, no matter what we’re taking and receiving, it’s nothing compared to what real shots are against Americans in this world. Americans today who are worried about losing their home and figuring out how in the world they’re going to pay their fuel bill next month, and send their kid to college, and may be worried about losing a loved one that they’re sending off to a war zone to protect our rights. Those are the shots that Americans are taking, so all this political nonsense and the lies, the rhetoric that is spun out there about someone just trying to offer themselves up in the name of service to this great country, I’ll take it.

She is practically saying that HER PROSECUTION by the MSM doesn’t compare the shots being taken by ordinary Americans from our financial and economic problems.

No matter what will happen at the debate tonight, I guess that I will continue to respect and adulate Sarah Palin… the heroine of the common Americans.

Sorry Ifill and the MSM… Sarah will become President of United States of America, if not today, then the very near future.

when she looks at Joe Biden and says please tell me the most significant executive decision you ever made and the impact of it.

I would like just one of these elite buttholes ask Biden of Obama to please detail their executive experience.

Please detail the largest budget you ever drew up and whether or not at the end of the fiscal was your budget over or under break even, and by how much?

That would be fair.

The whining desperation in the “blame the media” crowd is sad.

But at least you have now set up a comfortable excuse so that when Palin says something nonsensical you can blame it on someone else.

And if McCain get beat in Nov. it won’t be because he was a terrible choice in the first place, or because he made an unending series of boneheaded moves, or because the election timing together with Bush’s unpopularity combined to give Obama the chance of a lifetime. No, it will be because of the VP debate moderator.

A campaign is a political war. To choose to not use the weapons at hand is seldom wise.
Democrats got away with not even permitting FOX to host debates.
Now Republicans are expected to roll over and take an open Obama booster with financial stakes in the campaign outcome to be moderator.
All Team McCain had to do was do basic research on her name.
But the corruption in this is that the debate sponsors found her acceptable. To not screen a moderator and ask him or her to state what interests they have in a race is just plain lazy.
Forget about Ifil- she is a democrat and understands what it takes to win” any weapon available.
But if she goes now, the replacement will go out of his or her way to really wreck Palin.

Gwen Ifill is the least talented of the Newshour bunch.
She’s slow on her feet during interviews, and a little bit blunt, missing things that
could be spun out into something interesting. Both candidates are probably grateful that Ray Suarez isn’t writing and asking the questions.

From where I’m sitting, it looks like one of two things is going on (or both, maybe):
Either the opposition research by the McCain campaign was asleep at the switch;
or it was firing on all cylinders, and has brought up this objection at the last moment
for the best possible effect of reducing expectations of Sarah Palin’s responses
or to even postpone to debate entirely.

Either way, it’s very well played.
