Picture doesn't do the speech justice
RedFox84 Thursday, August 28th at 9:48PM EST (link)The speech is the liberal laundry list of talking points and goody bag they’ve been clamoring every day for over the past decade.
That was slicker than a preacher's, well, you know,
Achance (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 10:09PM EST (link)at Camp Meeting time.
I’ve spent my whole adult life as an advocate; I know how to use words. I don’t think those words were as good as William Manchester’s words for JFK were, but they were some pretty good words.
But, that’s all it was; words. Words that disguise a lie. BHO is a tool of unions and socialists. He is almost a Manchurian Candidate, formed by the Ayers of the World.
If America buys that, we deserve it.
In Vino Veritas
excellent speech
dingo (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 10:28PM EST (link)This was truly an excellent speech. (Unlike the Jeremiah Wright speech, which was totally overrated.) He provided enough specifics, I think, to avoid criticism on that front. Of course, much of his specifics were actually just not true – for example, there is no way he pays for all this and still lowers taxes on 95% of the people. But it should appeal somewhat to the swing voter, blue collars that Obama needs to get.
A good preemptive attack on McCain, daring him to discuss foreign policy and “patriotism”.
This should get Obama his bump.
McCain needs to start tomorrow, and slowly but steadily pound the you know what out of Obama. He needs to take on the liberal talking points one at a time. He should start by taking up Obama on his stated desire to have a “debate” on foreign policy – challenge Obama to more debates immediately!

ggross56 (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 10:28PM EST (link)I said here that this speech was long on rhetoric, short on substance. It’s the same speech he’s been giving all campaign. In fact, I think it’s the same speech as he gave in 2004. Subtract a detail here, add a detail there & it’s the same stuff.

Specifics?
PSDA (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 10:37PM EST (link)Even the AP headline (linked on Drudge), says “Obama speech spares details, keeps up attacks.” I heard almost no specifics–just outrageous and impossible promises. And a whole lot of bitterness and bile.
The backdrop resembled a Japanese restaurant.

I'm a dem thats not afraid of republicans
culthero Thursday, August 28th at 10:48PM EST (link)I noticed that the redstate blog is quite possibly the best source of intelligent red state talk. Tell you what – I thought this speech was great. I don’t think it was better then the speech he gave at the xcel center in minneapolis, but it was great.
I think Obama hit the notes that he needed to for democrats and independants.
remember, they say that 80% from either side have decided who they’re going to vote for. He had to make a play for the remaining 20% – and I believe he did so.
FYI – Kudos to red state to keeping it as balanced as he quite literally could. Your not as right wing as Daily Kos for sure (and sir that is a great thing).
I wish you guys 3800 comments per blog post.
Cheers!

I think the speech was a disaster.
PSDA (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 10:52PM EST (link)Obama’s speech was shockingly out of sync with the optimistic, supposedly unifying rhetoric of bringing people together for hope and change that propelled him to the nomination.
When it wasn’t merey bland, so much of it was pessimistic, angry, sarcastic and confrontational. It was WAY more Malcom X than Martin Luther King.
It was almost as if Obama were trying to solidify his base with partisan red meat… at a time when I expected him to be going after independents and undecideds.
I really don’t see how this speech helps instead of hurts him for the general election. Of course Keith Olbermann will love it. It’s the speech Keith Olbermann would have given.
there were enough
dingo (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 10:53PM EST (link)There were enough specifics here for the average voter. Talking about tax cuts, new energy policies, Iraq, etc. works. In fact, you don’t want to have a laundry list of policies (Clinton always made that mistake), since it bores people.
I think the problem here is that you (and the rest of us on this website) are a more sophisticated political/ideological thinker than most voters are.
Dingo
Daily Kos is rightwing?
Tim_Schieferecke (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 10:58PM EST (link)And just who is this RedState fellow? By the way, The Chosen One will be destroyed in the general election. We still don’t do marxism in this country no matter how much lipstick is applied.

David Hinz (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 11:02PM EST (link)would have used the word “I” more often…
The Minority Report — The HinzSight Report — TMRB.tv — MFOB “Miss Tagart, do you know the hallmark of the second-rater? It’s resentment of another man’s achievement.”
Well...
PSDA (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 11:04PM EST (link)I’m just not sure about that. I watched with my daughter, who supports Obama, and she wasn’t impressed at all.
The “specifics” of the speech merely evoked ideas and goals–energy independence, hiring more teachers, catching Bin Laden, etc. And Obama’s perfunctory delivery of them made it look like what they were–obligatory checking off of subjects on a list.
Where Obama really seemed into it was when he was bashing Republicans and letting himself get carried away with gas-bag bromides.
And teeth clenched
RedFox84 Thursday, August 28th at 11:06PM EST (link)Along with a lot of the use of the word “SIR!” in total contempt.
