Olympic Opening Ceremony is Lame Open Thread

They have nothing to resemble alphabetical order.

The stunts are mostly lame.

And no word yet if the torch will be lit with Tibetans and Falun Gong activists as kindling.

Have I mentioned I hate the Chicoms?

Here’s an open thread.

UPDATE Did McDonalds design the Chicoms’ outfits? (kidding, yes I know it is the chicom color scheme). By the way, was I the only one who laughed when I saw the horde of chicoms come marching out, all with digital cameras. No irony at all.

If China had The One doing the opening ceremony, would it make that special? -nt

I agree with Douglas Mcarther when he asked for 26 nuclear strikes on china during the Korean conflict, it would have saved half of Asia from being screwed over by the communist for 50 years..

I plan on missing the Olympics...

kyle8 (Diary) Friday, August 8th at 10:11PM EST (link)

But it’s not a protest, it is just that I like to stay awake while I watch TV. I skip them every time. There is only one event that I have even the slightest interest, that would be boxing.

I think I got something else to do, like vacuum the floor. Wash my hair. Paint the picnic table.

Erick is providing some really funny live Tweet commentary of the opening ceremony.

I think I remember seeing that he was going out for drinks earlier.

The Olympics are on?

Guerc Friday, August 8th at 10:24PM EST (link)

I didn’t realize the Olympics were on tonight. Why, I’ve been so busy preparing my popcorn and waiting for Nightline on ABC.

Hmmmm. I wonder who is being interviewed tonight.

I like a little garlic salt on my popcorn, along with an ice cold Coke. It really goes well with hypocrisy.

Erick..I was just watching with my wife and father, and I was saying the same thing...

I am sitting here watching all of this and the whole time giving commentary on the absolute irony of what the chicoms produced. The only thing lacking was an actual show of military strength, although…the tai chi was close….;^)

I walked through the living room a couple times and all I remember is the girls waving at the teams as they walked by. They had the look of, “I am sick of this, but I don’t want to go to a prison camp – so therefore I smile and wave”.

The earlier dancing was very lame.

Can someone explain how to add someone on Twitter?

Dave_in_Fla (Diary) Friday, August 8th at 11:02PM EST (link)

I’ve never understood this thing. I know people are on it, I know their names, but I can’t figure out how to add them.

Yeah not watching the Olympics....

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Friday, August 8th at 11:07PM EST (link)

couple of reasons but the biggest one is I NEVER put NBC on my TV and I mean NEVER…..I will see youtube videos and check things out on websites….I do not think that China should have EVER been given the Olympics and that would be my second biggest reason.

Woot! Figured it out (n/t)

Let’s just hope that the rivers don’t run red, eh?

Although, your lack of faith in The One™’s ability to solve these problems is disturbing.

desperate

wsjreader (Diary) Saturday, August 9th at 1:25AM EST (link)

sounds pretty desperate in denial. Even freepers believe it’s a mindboggling show.

US will soon be left in dustbin by China if American voters keep on electing those who are not even qualified to run a corner store to run the country.

The opening ceremony was amazing!

Right_Again (Diary) Saturday, August 9th at 7:04AM EST (link)

The athlete march is always boring. Just as there is no way to make a graduation march interesting, it is impossible to make this interesting.

However, the opening ceremonies were incredible. The drummers and the printing blocks especially stood out. The way the whole stadium was designed specifically for this ceremony just made it amazing.

The Chinese have a long, proud history that has nothing to do with their current government. They were right to proudly display their contributions to the world: paper, movable printing, fireworks, etc. I can’t imagine anyone who saw it not being impressed.

So, China displayed the parts of their culture...

JKH1232 (Diary) Saturday, August 9th at 8:27AM EST (link)

That Europe did better?

I mean, China invents paper and moveable type, uses it to to increase their stranglehold on the peasantry. Europeans get moveable type and cheap paper had have revolutions, such as the Reformation, the Enlightenment, etc. that promote freedom of though and push us into the modern world.

Fireworks? That’s great. Europeans get black power and make matchlocks. Advantage: Europe.

Oh, China has a long and interesting past. Which they turned their back on in 1911 for Industrialization, Communism, and, coming soon, Capitalism. I mean, “Socialism with Chinese characteristics” is Socialism with mixed in capitalism. Where’s China’s oh so great history there?

I enjoyed it.

ThreeNineNine Saturday, August 9th at 8:32AM EST (link)

I found it very cool and quite entertaining.

And what are you displaying?

Right_Again (Diary) Saturday, August 9th at 11:46AM EST (link)

How many things does Japan do better than America? Should the fact that they do many things better negate our accomplishments?

It’s interesting to me that you’re willing to bash 1.3B current Chinese and however many billions more in the past for the fact that they have had a Communist government for just under one hundred years.

The ceremony was fantastic. Probably the best I’ve ever seen.

Yeah . . .

Yeah . . . I had the ceremony on but then I saw Batman Begins was on another channel and I thought “Huh, well this is a no-brainer”

Nice ovation for Iraq and USA

Dave_in_Fla (Diary) Saturday, August 9th at 3:01PM EST (link)

Just now watching the opening on TIVO.

Noticably large ovation when both Iraq and USA came in. Not so much for Iran.

After the screaming crowds that welcomed Bush in South Korea, I think Obama’s “we are hated in the world” meme is crap.

Athletes Must Feel awkward

GregInFla (Diary) Saturday, August 9th at 8:18PM EST (link)

I mean, you have all the athletes of the USA marching in: swimmers and crew-folk, who may not have two nickels to rub together, trying to mingle with multi-millionaire basketball players. Something just looks wrong in this picture.

Someone was missing at Opening Ceremonies

GregInFla (Diary) Saturday, August 9th at 8:23PM EST (link)

I heard the President of the USA was supposed to be there, but Mr. Barack H. Obama was nowhere to be seen. I mean, it was televised on National Barack Channel (NBC), and they never showed him?
